  • Patent number: 11753888
Abstract: A control unit includes a rotatable tubular body that rotates around a spindle. A torque transfer unit may be attached to the tubular body and the spindle. A force applied to the torque transfer unit by a biasing element may control a first torque applied by the tubular body to the spindle. The first torque is independent of a rotational velocity of the tubular body. A second torque is applied to the spindle with a torque generator, the second torque controlling the net torque. Controlling the net torque allows the absolute orientation of the control unit to be controlled.

  • Patent number: 11725495
Abstract: A crowding avoidance sub (CAS), in or above a bottom hole assembly (BHA), e.g., between drill string and BHA, sends sensor data over lines in a modified housing and flex lines accommodating and reporting relative axial motion between movable parts of a single sub, typically below a cushion, jar, or shock sub, possibly even a motor. Sensors connected to an Intellisys™ data connection system provide a data stream to a computer at the surface, and may include downhole preprocessing, but need not. The drive system of the hook feed rate is directly controlled in real time by a data station receiving, and operating based on, “travel” or “progress” information received from downhole sensors of the CAS indicating effectively instantly and electronically (rather than slower signals through drilling fluid) whenever the string progresses dangerously faster than the bit, and must be slowed or stopped.

  • Patent number: 11719057
Abstract: This system maintains bottom hole pressure and constant well bore pressure profile for a period of time in event of loss of power to rig pumps, rig pump failure or other loss of pressure to the primary flowline. The back pressure system diverts mud into the primary flowline to maintain pressure. The system provides time to get the diesel powered cement unit on line to maintain pressure or get the power reinstated to the rig pumps. The mud discharged into the primary flowline can be recovered back into the housing via the housing inlet line and the housing can be recharged via the N2 high pressure bottle rack. The back pressure system installs upstream of the MPD chokes with interfaces to the primary flow line to divert the drilling mud to the primary flowline.

  • Patent number: 11708735
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting and/or milling of tubulars in a wellbore, especially using coiled tubing. An elongated main body has a longitudinal bore, with a piston slidably positioned in the bore. The piston is connected to one or more operating arms which are rotatably connected to the main body. The connection between the piston and the operating arms may be a pinned connection or a geared connection, both of which provide for a positive connection between the piston and the operating arms. Cutter bases are connected to the cutter arms, with a number of cutters mounted to the cutter bases. Fluid flow down the coiled tubing and through the main body bore pushes the piston downwardly, opening the operating arms and cutter bases and permitting the apparatus to be pulled up into the lower end of a tubular string for cutting and/or milling.
