Abstract: A distributed storage system for the long-term storage of data objects that is implemented utilizing one or more distinct storage sites that may be comprised of system controllers and object storage systems that act in concert to embody a single distributed storage system. A system may include a one or more types and/or instances of object storage systems. A system may include witness functionality in which a trusted user and/or client acts to maintain consistent storage policies on behalf of one or more users and/or clients. A system may further include system controllers associated with logical and/or physical sites that coordinate object, user, device, and system management functionally.

Abstract: An approach for managing memory usage in cloud and traditional environments using usage analytics is disclosed. The approach may be implemented in a computer infrastructure including a combination of hardware and software. The approach includes determining that space is available within one or more tables which have schema definitions with string fields having a predefined length. The approach further includes creating a virtual table and mapping the available space to the virtual table for population by one or more records.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and logic allowing one or more users to apply user layer configuration data containing rules for executing one or more comparison tests to retrieved information and displaying the results in a graphical overlay without modifying the underlying retrieved information.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards the visualization of machine data received from computing clusters. Embodiments may enable improved analysis of computing cluster performance, error detection, troubleshooting, error prediction, or the like. Individual cluster nodes may generate machine data that includes information and data regarding the operation and status of the cluster node. The machine data is received from each cluster node for indexing by one or more indexing applications. The indexed machine data including the complete data set may be stored in one or more index stores. A visualization application enables a user to select one or more analysis lenses that may be used to generate visualizations of the machine data. The visualization application employs the analysis lens to produce visualizations of the computing cluster machine data.

Abstract: A method facilitating searching of data containing protected date information includes generating one or more randomly escalating dateID values for each date during a time period and storing such generated dateID values in a lookup table together with an encrypted, associated date value. Such generated dateID values can be stored in a datasource in place of protected dates in order to safeguard protected health information. In one or more preferred implementations, a de-identified date is stored in the lookup table in association with a dateID, and utilized for searching operations.

Abstract: A method of designing bifacial solar panels installations that does not rely on the use of all available space to maximize electrical output and return on investment. Instead, the design method relies on building a solar farm that provides the buyer with less than optimal electrical output but meets requirements to improve the return and breakeven over traditional installations. The method weighs financial variables against the design criteria to achieve a new less than maximum effectiveness of the system.

A resource is generated, and the resource, when processed by a client device, causes the client device to perform various operations. The operations include displaying a search result having an associated landing page and detecting user interaction with the search result. The operations include, in response to detecting user interaction with the search result, displaying a first portion of the landing page that is embedded within the resource and requesting, over a network, a second portion of the landing page. Abstract: According to some embodiments, a thermostat obtains real-time energy prices from a electricity grid. It may also obtain additional data from external data sources, such as predicted energy prices or weather predictions. The thermostat attempts to find a control strategy for when to switch available aggregates that may include furnaces and air conditioners on and off. In order to solve this integer programming problem, the thermostat uses a random search algorithm. According to some embodiments, various data sources, such as day-ahead prices and real-time prices, are combined into forecasts of electricity prices for the present and future time periods. In some embodiments, a thermostat selects predictively between heating or cooling by letting outside air in or by using heating and cooling aggregates. Additional embodiments are discussed and shown.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for integrating multiple health information sources across a distributed computing environment to optimize the retrieval of data from a plurality of health information sources. The method and system includes receiving, in a leader node, a query request from a client device. The leader node can be any available node within the multiple of nodes. The method and system includes the leader node receiving a list of search nodes for conducting the query request and generating a search routine for executing the query request via the search nodes. The method and system includes executing the search operations based on the search routine, retrieving search data by accessing each of the health information sources via the coupled search nodes. The leader node receives the search data, integrating the search data and transmitting the combined search data to the client device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for creating one or more infographics, comprising: receiving and storing data associated with an individual or an entity, in a format according to a schema that includes at least two properties associated with the individual or entity; reading at least a portion of the data; determining which of the at least two properties in the schema do not have corresponding read data associated with the individual or entity; based on that determination, selecting an infographic definition from among a plurality of infographic definitions defining the appearance of at least a portion of an infographic; generating one or more infographics based on (i) the at least a portion of the data and (ii) the selected infographic definition; and providing the one or more generated infographics to an output device.

Abstract: Setting up and supporting the computer infrastructure for a remote satellite office is a difficult task for any information technology department. To simplify the task, an integrated server system with a hierarchical storage system is proposed. The hierarchical storage system includes the ability to store data at an off-site cloud storage service. The server system is remotely configurable and thus allows the server to be configured and populated with data from a remote location.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus teach a digital spectrum of a file. The digital spectrum is used to map a file's position in a multi-dimensional space. This position relative to another file's position reveals distances between the files. Closest files can be grouped together. When contemplating voluminous numbers of files for digital spectrums, various methods include: concatenating all such files together to get a single key useful for creating a file's spectrum; or compressing files individually and combining their collective dictionaries into a single dictionary with or without the use of tree mechanisms that defines the digital spectrum. Each provides advantage over the other. The latter consumes considerably less run time because each compression event can be distributed to a separate processor. Method two provides better spectrums because it is more “informationally” valid than is method one.

Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for data management with shallow copy functionality are provided. The invention discloses embodiments capable of creating, managing and editing a user's data and a graphical, and related command line, user interface for visualizing and interacting with both the containers for collections of data items and the contained data items. The invention provides for copying a data object to a new container such that the original and new data object are indistinguishable in appearance and content.

Abstract: In one aspect, in general, a method of generating a dataflow graph representing a database query includes receiving a query plan from a plan generator, the query plan representing operations for executing a database query on at least one input representing a source of data, producing a dataflow graph from the query plan, wherein the dataflow graph includes at least one node that represents at least one operation represented by the query plan, and includes at least one link that represents at least one dataflow associated with the query plan, and altering one or more components of the dataflow graph based on at least one characteristic of the at least one input representing the source of data.
