  • Patent number: 4469115
Abstract: An extension is secured to a valve box in a roadway to be repaved by coating the valve box shoulder and the bottom of the extension with a thin layer of epoxy adhesive, placing a heated neoprene gasket on the shoulder, and setting the extension in place on the gasket. Heating makes the gasket pliable, and heat from the gasket assists in curing the adhesive. A curing-type liquid sealant is introduced into the space around the periphery of the extension to prevent the entry of water, salt and other corrodents.

  • Patent number: 4467999
Abstract: A multiple vessel cascade gas enrichment diaphragm valve/hollow gas-conducting tube combination is provided to control the flow of gas, which combination is particularly useful in an adsorber. The combination includes a capped hollow core connected at only one area to the hollow, gas-conducting tube, the capped, hollow core being provided with one or more perforations through the wall thereof and with a pair of longitudinally spaced-apart annular protrusions, one on each longitudinal side of the perforations. A molded cylindrical tubular elastomeric diaphragm is secured concentrically to the hollow core at the annular protrusions. The diaphragm has walls adjacent the secured ends thereof which are thicker internally than the walls at the region of the perforations, so as to maintain the outer cylindrical tubular shape of the diaphragm. The thicker internal walls each are provided with a pair of longitudinally spaced-apart abutments.

  • Patent number: 4467996
Abstract: A valve apparatus of the ram type having a pair of ram assembly bodies in opposed relation transverse to the valve bore. The ram bodies carry, in recess, respective inner seals which, upon inward movement of the ram bodies, effect sealing engagement so as to restrict flow through the valve bore. A plurality of locking pins are included disposed vertically through each seal, each such locking pin having projections extending outward of its respective seal beyond the top and bottom thereof. Each projection is matingly received by a corresponding slotted portion of the recess within and defined by said ram assembly body for restricting relative movement of said inner seal with respect to movement of its respective ram assembly body.

  • Patent number: 4467997
Abstract: A portable device, capable of being hand carried to a selective location along the length of a fire hose at the scene of a fire, is adapted to be swiftly and easily opened by reason of a hinged relationship of its basic parts, to receive the hose. When swung to a closed position about the hose, the clamping device automatically latches and locks in the closed position, to locate stationary and movable jaws at diametrically opposite points on the hose. Then, by operation of a hydraulic means incorporated directly in the device, the movable jaw is forced toward the stationary jaw, to clamp off the hose. The jaws have a particular configuration adapting the same to tightly clamp the hose against any leakage of water therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4465102
Abstract: A check valve for controlling the flow of fluid through a pipe or other means defining a passageway. The valve comprises an elastomeric valve element that permits flow of fluid through the passageway in a downstream direction while preventing the flow of fluid in the upstream direction. The valve element has a base that is secured to the means defining the passageway, there being an opening in the base through which fluid can flow. Flow of fluid is controlled by vanes projecting downstream from the base, each vane being flexibly connected to the base and being movable about its line of connection with the base between an open position in which the vanes permit ready flow of fluid in a forward direction, and a closed position in which the vanes make sealing engagement with each other, thus preventing upstream flow of fluid.

  • Patent number: 4465258
Abstract: The wall of an elastomer sleeve valve is provided with a lip-shaped internal sealing member at a median region of the wall; when the valve is closed, the sealing member forms two lips contacting each other along a substantially diametral plane to produce sealing, and contacted lips have arcuate ends joining them so that they produce the seal without causing undue stresses in the sleeve wall. In a preferred embodiment the lips contact each other when no hydraulic pressures are imposed on the sleeve in the rest state.

  • Patent number: 4452271
Abstract: An extended vertical and parallel squeezing device for plastic pipe in a plastic pipe distribution system for fluent materials such as gas and water. According to the invention, height adjustable valve boxes are provided at predetermined squeeze-off points. The plastic pipe squeeze device comprises a pair of squeeze bars which are rotated about a common axis from above the ground via the valve box. A hollow circular shaft and a second shaft internally therein have pipe engaging members at the lower ends thereof, respectively, and a drive means is provided at the opposite ends of the vertical shaft for relatively rotating same so that the pipe engaging members rotate towards each other to squeeze the plastic pipe therebetween. Stop means are provided to limit the amount of squeeze and avoid damage to the plastic pipe and a spacer, offset from the point of engagement of the pipe engaging members provide space for distortion of the pipe from round to oval as it is squeezed.

  • Patent number: 4452421
Abstract: A well blowout preventer packer unit is characterized by long life, and induced back to front (radial) rubber feeding between metallic inserts to close on well pipe or on a well tool for producing a pressure gradient against the pipe or tool which is greatest at the bottom of the packer extent engaging the pipe, and lowest at the top of the packer extent engaging the pipe. The preventer piston has multiple interior frusto-conical surfaces to progressively and sequentially penetrate the packer rubber to effect controlled and enhanced rubber displacement for sealing against the pipe or tool; one of such surfaces is located relatively further from the piston axis than another such surface and has greater angularity relative to that axis than the other surface, and said one surface also has axial projection of greater radial dimension than that other surface.

  • Patent number: RE31584
Abstract: The rate of flow of a fluid through plastic tubing is varied by clamping a portion of a circumferential section of the tube wall with sufficient force to fully close that part of the passage between the clamped wall portions, permitting fluid flow only through the resulting, remaining open cross-sectional area. Cold flow of the plastic material of the clamped portion of the tubing wall, such as might otherwise effect a change in the remaining cross-sectional flow area, is prevented or minimized by rigidly confining the clamped section. To adjustably vary the flow rate, the operative, passage-defining wall section of the tubing is varied by uniformly varying the ratio of the section of clamped tubing, and the remaining, operative wall portion of the tubing, or by deforming the operative wall portion.
