  • Patent number: 7738839
Abstract: A state control register is provided in addition to the arithmetic circuit and communication circuit in a semiconductor device operated with wireless communication. Operation of an arithmetic circuit which consumes large power is stopped in transmitting or receiving data, that is, in the case where the operating magnetic field varies, whereas the arithmetic circuit can be operated in the case where the operating magnetic field does not vary. In the case where the operating magnetic field varies, a large capacity power supply is not required by realizing the function that is minimum required for the reception or transmission by a receiving circuit or a transmitting circuit. That is, a high-level arithmetic process can be carried out by a small-scale power supply circuit. In this manner, a high-functional and low-power consumption semiconductor device can be provided, which is a structure suitable for a semiconductor device provided with a large-scale circuit.

  • Patent number: 7725124
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a transmitter-receiver RF-IC having a built-in regulator, which can reduce a minimum value of an input voltage of the regulator without increasing its area, the input voltage being supplied from a battery, the transmitter-receiver RF-IC being capable of normal operation with the input voltage, whereby the operating time of a mobile terminal can be improved as compared with the prior art. According to the present invention, in order to achieve the above object, an output end of a regulator built into a RF-IC is first led to the outside of the RF-IC. Then, the output end is led to an area in proximity to the circuit block by use of wiring on a mobile terminal substrate whose resistance is low, or by use of wiring on a module whose resistance is low, thereby shortening the wiring length inside the RF-IC.

  • Patent number: 7715810
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for combining stepped drain bias control with digital predistortion for a power amplifier. In one example, the method includes receiving an input associated with a transmit power level of a transmitter in a wireless terminal and selecting a predefined drain bias setting for a power amplifier of the wireless terminal based on the input. A predefined predistortion setting for the power amplifier corresponding to the selected predefined drain bias setting is identified. A drain of the power amplifier is set to the selected predefined drain bias setting, and the identified predefined predistortion setting is applied to a signal prior to directing the signal to the power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7711342
Abstract: An apparatus includes a filter module, an amplification module, and an adjustment signal source. The filter module generates a filtered signal based on a received signal. This filtered signal has a level shift corresponding to a difference between a direct current (DC) level of the filtered signal and a DC level of the received signal. From the filtered signal and an adjustment signal, the amplification module generates an amplified signal. The adjustment signal, which is provided by the adjustment signal source, may control (e.g., diminish) an effect of the level shift on a DC level of the amplified signal.

  • Patent number: 7697903
Abstract: Methods and systems for level detector calibration are disclosed and may comprise calibrating a level detector integrated on-chip to eliminate an associated zero input offset voltage utilizing a replica bias circuit with no input ac voltage at the level detector or the replica bias circuit. The output signal may be generated by a difference of output signals from the level detector and the replica bias circuit. The level detector and the replica bias circuit may be biased utilizing a similar bias voltage. A plurality of known input voltages may be utilized to generate a corresponding plurality of output voltages of the level detector, generating a corrected transfer function that may be used to accurately set a transmitter power level.

  • Patent number: 7693494
Abstract: A novel digital attenuator circuit and associated pre-power amplifier (PPA) that substantially increases the dynamic range of the amplifier. Increased dynamic range is achieved by placing a digital current attenuator circuit at the output of the pre-power amplifier so that the minimum possible current output of the transistor switch array of the PPA can be further attenuated. The attenuator functions to split the current between the load and the power supply VDD (i.e. AC ground) based on device ratio that is controlled digitally via an input power control word. The digital attenuator is constructed as a segmented digitally controlled matrix or cell array comprising at least a pass and bypass matrix or array. The pass matrix controls the amount of current output from the PPA while the bypass matrix controls the amount of current shorted to the AC ground (i.e. power supply). By varying the number of transistors on or off in each matrix, the power output of the PPA can be easily and accurately controlled.
