  • Patent number: 11885089
Abstract: A method for mitigating flooding in existing coastal plain areas includes: A dyke (or dykes) is (are) set/built on seabed outside partial existing coastline of an existing coastal plain area to form an enclosed area; the enclosed area, together with the dyke(s), the reservoir inlet(s) and outlet(s), constitutes a reservoir for containing rainwater; or, part(s) of the enclosed area is (are) of a reclamation area (or reclamation areas). Before the start of forecast heavy rainfall or continuous rainfall, the water level in the reservoir is lowered in advance and the water level of water area for containing rainwater in the existing coastal plain is also pre-lowered, so effective storage capacity for containing rainwater against flooding caused by rainfall in the locality is substantially increased. The present invention is applicable for the flooding control works, reclamation works, roads and highways and their integrated works in existing coastal plain areas.

  • Patent number: 11859362
Abstract: An erosion control apparatus includes a flexible, container and a cord. The container includes a container upper side, a container lower side opposite the container upper side, a container trailing end, a container leading end opposite the container trailing end, and a container mouth toward the container leading end. The container mouth provides an opening to a container interior. The cord is attached between the container mouth and an attachment point toward the container trailing end. The cord draws the container mouth toward the container trailing end due to a length of the cord between the container mouth and the attachment point being shorter than a length of the container between the container mouth and the attachment point. The cord further draws the container mouth toward a closed position as sediment enters the container mouth, fills the container interior, and urges the container leading end away from the attachment point.

  • Patent number: 11851840
Abstract: A coupling between lead and extension pile segments of a driven piling. The extension segment has a formed end, an opposite driven end and a body extending therebetween. The formed end has an inner diameter equal to an outer diameter of an exposed end of the lead segment and greater than an outer diameter of the extension segment's body. The formed end has an initial length prior to coupling the extension and lead segments; the formed end undergoes secondary end forming when a driving force is applied, such that the formed end has a final length exceeding the initial length after the extension and lead segments are coupled. In some embodiments, the extension segment has an external ring portion positioned upstream of the formed end, and the exposed end of the lead segment is cold extruded into and through the external ring portion of the extension segment.

  • Patent number: 11828033
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to a completely new pile splicing system called Grouted Sleeve Coupler Splice (GSCS) for Precast Concrete Piles (PCPs) as an innovative alternative splicing method for connecting driven PCP segments. The provided splicing method is applicable for preplanned situations and provides a durable, labor-friendly, rapid, and economical foundation construction method. In this system, to improve the structural performance, the entire sleeve coupler and a portion of the dowels are partially debonded in short lengths from surrounding concrete. This connection system is novel in conjunction with PCPs and for connecting separate precast pile segments. The provided system offers a completely unique and new method of connecting and splicing PCP segments and other prismatic prefabricated piles.

  • Patent number: 11746491
Abstract: A construction process of soil nailing wall for geological disaster control is provided, which uses a construction equipment of soil nailing wall for geological disaster control, including underframe, lifting assembly and etc.; a lifting assembly is installed on the left side of the upper side of the underframe. When in use, the disclosure can automatically cut off the tree trunks extending out of the slope surface, and then install the grouting rods in the soil slope holes. At the same time, the disclosure can adapt to the tree trunks with different bending degrees to cut them, which solves the problem of tree trunks interfering with the construction, greatly improves the efficiency, prevents the cut tree trunks from falling onto the slope, avoids damaging the slope surface, and can adapt to a variety of situations to cut off the tree trunks.

  • Patent number: 11739486
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure involve hydraulic systems and methods for altering a flow of a body of water, such as a river, channel, and/or other flowing or uncontained bodies of water. In one aspect, a hydraulic system provides a velocity barrier for the impedance of aquatic organism migration. More particularly, the velocity barrier may be adapted based on the swimming capabilities of one or more aquatic organisms to impede migration. The aquatic organism may be one or more species of fish, such as species sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus). The example implementations shown and described herein reference the restriction of the sea lamprey. However, it will be appreciated that other aquatic organisms could be restricted by the presently disclosed technology, for example, with different hydraulic targets depending on swimming capabilities.

  • Patent number: 11668063
Abstract: A coupling device includes male and female couplings having first and second circumferential grooves on surfaces of the respective couplings that face each other when the couplings are fitted together. The coupling device further includes an engaging member. When the male coupling is pushed into the female coupling, the engaging member is retracted into the second groove, allowing the male coupling to be inserted into the female coupling, and when the couplings are fitted together, the engaging member is pushed into the first groove by coil springs so as to be fitted into both of the groove, thereby preventing separation of the male and female couplings in the axial direction. Countersunk head screws support respective divided pieces of the engaging member. Slotted head setscrews are screwed in at boundaries between the adjacent divided pieces to press the divided pieces against the bottom of the first groove.
