Abstract: A methodology useful for predicting the texture of a heated starch suspension by predicting the storage modulus (G?) of the starch suspension resulting from starch granule swelling during heating has been developed. The methodology is based on the physical properties of the starch granules in the starch suspension and the temperature history of the heated starch suspension.
Abstract: A wax-extender emulsion including a plurality of wax-extender complex particles suspended in water is described. A wax-extender complex includes a wax component, an organic extender component and a surfactant that stabilizes the wax component and the organic extender component collectively to form the wax-extender complex. The wax-extender emulsion comprises from 2 wt % to 30 wt % organic extender. During manufacturing, the organic extender and wax component are emulsified and homogenized together to produce the wax-extender emulsion. The wax-extender emulsion can be co-applied as a mixture with adhesive resin during wood-based composite manufacturing.

Abstract: A visible-light-photocatalyzed composite light-transmitting concrete contains several bundles of optical fibers, the optical fibers are coated with a protective layer on their outer surface, the protective layer contains a visible light photocatalyst, and the concrete has several gas-permeable pores. Such concrete is prepared by mixing a visible light photocatalyst and a light-transmitting glue, applying the mixture to the surface of optical fibers to form a protective layer, and using optical fibers in the concrete. The resulting concrete has dual properties of light transmittance and photocatalytic oxidation of gas-phase pollutants under visible light irradiation. The visible-light-photocatalyzed composite light-transmitting concrete significantly breaks through the limitation of photocatalytic concrete to light sources, so that gas-phase pollutants can be removed under visible light irradiation through photocatalysis of light-transmitting concrete.

Abstract: An improved surface material is particularly suited for non-turf baseball field applications such as the pitcher's mound and base paths. The material generally comprises clay, wax, Foots oil and sand and has a putty-like consistency. Cleats can penetrate the material but are not likely to pull it out in clumps upon removal of the cleats. Method for forming the surface includes pre-coating the soil with Foots oil and then spraying an emulsified wax on a surface and mixing it with the surface material.
Abstract: A process is provided for producing a biomass-derived rheology modifier, comprising: providing a pretreated feedstock comprising cellulose-rich solids; refining the cellulose-rich solids in a first high-intensity refining unit, generating refined cellulose solids; gelling the refined cellulose solids in a second high-intensity refining unit, thereby generating gelled cellulose solids; and homogenizing the gelled cellulose solids in a high-shear homogenizer, thereby generating a biomass-derived rheology modifier. The pretreated feedstock may include kraft pulp, sulfite pulp, AVAP® pulp, soda pulp, mechanical pulp, thermomechanical pulp, and/or chemimechanical pulp, derived from wood or lignocellulosic biomass. The pretreated feedstock may be GP3+® pulp, obtained from steam or hot-water extraction of lignocellulosic biomass. These rheology modifiers may be utilized in a wide variety of applications, including water-based or oil-based hydraulic fracturing fluid formulations, as gelling agents.
Abstract: The invention discloses a phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride micro-nano material and application thereof in waste gas treatment. Melamine is partially hydrolyzed into cyanuric acid through a phosphorous acid-assisted hydrothermal method to form a melamine-cyanuric acid super molecular precursor; the center of the precursor starts to be pyrolyzed under heating calcination, and thus phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride is obtained; the phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride and sodium borohydride are mixed and subjected to low-temperature calcination in an inert gas atmosphere, and defect-modified phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride is obtained.
