  • Patent number: 10321013
Abstract: Embodiments of a fax system with adaptive protocol selection, and methods for such a system, are disclosed herein. Embodiments of a fax system may be adapted to selectively configure the protocol (both the type of protocol or aspects of a particular protocol) used in association with the transmission or reception of a specific fax. The configuration of the protocol utilized can be based on one or more attributes associated with a sender or a destination. The fax can then be transmitted or received according to those configuration parameters.

  • Patent number: 10257465
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is provided to intelligently frame groups of participants in a meeting. This gives a more pleasing experience with fewer switches, better contextual understanding, and more natural framing, as would be seen in a video production made by a human director. Furthermore, in accordance with another embodiment, conversational framing techniques are provided. During speaker tracking, when two local participants are addressing each other, a method is provided to show a close-up framing showing both participants. By evaluating the direction participants are looking and a speaker history, it is determined if there is a local discussion going on, and an appropriate framing is selected to give far-end participants the most contextually rich experience.

  • Patent number: 10250849
Abstract: An overlay network platform facilitates a multi-party videoconference. End users participate using client-based browser or mobile application rendering software, such as a web browser, and using a protocol such as WebRTC. Dynamic speaker selection among the participants is facilitated by continuously determining the “relevance” of a participant's stream with respect to other participants in the conference. Thus, for example, a particular participant stream might be deemed to have a higher relevance if it is the stream corresponding to a person that is currently speaking, that has spoken recently, or that is about to speak. Streams with higher relevance are then selectively delivered at higher quality relative to less relevant streams. Preferably, individual client machines determine which streams are requested and at which quality based in part on their local resource capabilities.

  • Patent number: 10250845
Abstract: In a remote interaction method performed by a remote collaboration system comprising a robot device and a head mounted display, the robot device is located in a remote space and comprising a projector, a panoramic camera and a high resolution camera. The head mounted display is located in a local space apart from the remote space. A communication between the robot device and the head mounted display is established based on a communication request. The remote space is observed by the head mounted display based on first image information and second image information. The first image information is collected by the panoramic camera and received from the robot device. The second image information is collected by the high resolution camera and received from the robot device. Necessary information to be provided to the remote space is searched by the head mounted display based on a result of observing the remote space.

  • Patent number: 10237496
Abstract: A system configured to host a teleconference session is disclosed. The system hosts a teleconference session between a plurality of client computing devices. The system provides transitions of displayed content between various positions of a user interface that displays a teleconference stream. The transitions can occur in response to an event that changes a state of the teleconference session, where the state of the teleconference session can be associated with a total number of users participating in the teleconference session. Accordingly, in various examples described herein, a change in state of the teleconference session can be attributed to an event in which a user joins the teleconference session or an event in which a user leaves the teleconference session.

  • Patent number: 10225515
Abstract: A portable information handling system selectively slides a display integrated in a housing relative to the housing to expose and cover a camera integrated in the housing behind the display. For example, upon execution of a videoconferencing application, an actuator slides the display to expose the camera to support a videoconference, and after the videoconference application completes, the display slides to cover the camera, thus providing security against unauthorized viewing through the camera, which is physically blocked from receiving light.

  • Patent number: 10212281
Abstract: A call center answers calls from callers reporting incidents and dispatch responders in response thereto. A computing system at the call center receives a particular call from a caller regarding a particular incident, and determines whether the particular call is an original call that is reporting the particular incident for a first time to the call center, or is a repetitive call that is reporting the particular incident after the original call for the particular incident has already been received by the call center. If an original call, the computing system forwards the particular call to an agent at the call center for further attention. However, if a repetitive call, the computing system diverts the particular call from the agent at the call center. Accordingly, the resources of the call center may be concentrated on original calls and away from repetitive calls.

  • Patent number: 10187579
Abstract: A videoconference apparatus and method coordinates a stationary view obtained with a stationary camera to an adjustable view obtained with an adjustable camera. The stationary camera can be a web camera, while the adjustable camera can be a pan-tilt-zoom camera. As the stationary camera obtains video, participants are detected and localized by establishing a static perimeter around a participant in which no motion is detected. Thereafter, if no motion is detected in the perimeter, any personage objects such as head, face, or shoulders which are detected in the region bounded by the perimeter are determined to correspond to the participant.

  • Patent number: 10182208
Abstract: An automatic process for producing professional, directed, production crew quality, video for videoconferencing is described. Rule based logic is integrated into an automatic process for producing director quality video for videoconferencing. An automatic process can include a method for composing a display for use in a video system having an active talker video stream and a panoramic view video stream having more than one person in video. The method can include determining a region of interest in a panoramic view video using motion detection and presence sensors, and preparing the panoramic view video by centering the region of interest and by zooming towards the region of interest, based upon the location of persons in the panoramic view video. The method includes determining placement of panoramic view video on a composite display to prevent the panoramic view video overlaying display of an active talker on the active talker video stream.

  • Patent number: 10178347
Abstract: The present invention provides a scheme that allows a person to communicate with another person at a remote site while giving the realistic sensation as if the persons faced each other in close proximity by capturing the images of the person using a plurality of image capturing units. A remote communication system includes a projector configured to project, on to a screen, an image transmitted from a remote site. The screen has a plurality of the front cameras disposed thereon. A CPU performs an extraction process to extract a person part from each of images captured by the front cameras and a combining process to combine the images captured by the front cameras. The remote communication system further includes a projector that projects the image subjected to the extraction process and the combining process onto a screen set in the remote site.

  • Patent number: 10178145
Abstract: In a method for adjusting data streams during a video conference the audio-based and video-based real-time communication to be transmitted to various receiver units with respective resource loads that vary over time, a server unit receives an incoming data stream from each of a multiple number of transmitter units. The server unit generates from such incoming data streams a multiple number of outgoing data streams, each having a different compressed data rate. The server unit receives from the specified receiver units, their resource loads (varying over time) in chronological intervals and accordingly subjects the data rates of the compressed outgoing data streams to a controlling adjustment to the resource loads of the respective specified receiver units. The outgoing data streams so adjusted are sent to the specified receiver units.

  • Patent number: 10176657
Abstract: A telephone network voting system receives telephone ballots cast by voters by dialing a telephone number. The telephone number is dialed by voters spread over a large geographic area. The voting calls are routed to points of presence local to or otherwise identified with the caller by using the caller's ANI or other originating number identification. The points of presence then accumulate votes and periodically forward tallies to a centralized location over a data network. Instructions may be transmitted from the centralized location to the points of presence.
