  • Patent number: 6974234
Abstract: The present invention provides a lighting head assembly that incorporates a high intensity LED package into an integral housing for further incorporation into other useful lighting devices. The present invention primarily includes two housing components, namely an inner mounting die and an outer enclosure and an optical component for collimating and focusing the light output. The inner and outer components cooperate to retain the LED package, provide electrical and control connections, provide integral heat sink capacity. Further the integrally incorporated optical lens captures, homogenizes and transmits substantially all of the light emitted by a light source, such as a light emitting diode. The present invention transmits 85% of the light emitted by the light source and produces a uniformly illuminated circular image in the far field of the device.

  • Patent number: 6971766
Abstract: An aperture lamp system that facilitates improved reliability and performance in a display system is provided. The aperture lamp system provides improved reliability by providing a second lamp coupled to a first lamp through a coupling aperture. When the first lamp fails, the second lamp can be used to provide illumination to the display. Specifically, light from the second lamp passes through the coupling aperture to the first lamp, where it can exit the first lamp and illuminate the display. Thus, by coupling the first and second lamps together through a coupling aperture, a lamp system is provided where either the first lamp or second lamp can be used to provide illumination for the display. Thus, the first and second lamps provide redundancy, with this redundancy used to improve the reliability of the display system.

  • Patent number: 6966685
Abstract: An illumination system employs a light distribution cylinder with an exterior surface in the form of a plurality of progressively smaller-diameter cylindrical steps. The outside surface of each cylindrical step is interrupted by V-shaped grooves perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. Each surface of these V-shaped grooves acts to internally reflect divergent light from a light source positioned at the end of the tube. The light distribution cylinders may be solid or hollow and configured with bilateral symmetry to receive light from either end. The illumination system rearranges divergent directional light from a light source into non-directional light emitted in a cylindrical pattern useful for area illumination.

  • Patent number: 6966669
Abstract: A portable utility light includes base support with a rechargeable battery. A light assembly is electrically connected to the rechargeable battery in the base support through a power cord removably connected to the base support. The power cord is adapted for selective connection to an auxiliary power source to provide a direct auxiliary power source for the light assembly. A power supply mechanism is also connected to a second connection portion of the base support to provide another power source to either charge the battery, power the light assembly or both. Another power cord may be employed to facilitate recharging the battery through the auxiliary power source. The work light thus provides multiple sources of power for the light as well as multiple sources of power for recharging the battery.

  • Patent number: 6960008
Abstract: A proportional brake light system having an LED display carried on a motor vehicle and capable of instaneously warning motorists following from behind whether and how quickly the vehicle is likely to stop in response to an operator generated foot pressure being applied to the brake pedal shoe. The brake pedal shoe of the vehicle has a hollow interior, and an optical signal is transmitted along an optical transmission path extending therethrough. As the pressure applied by the operator to the pedal shoe is increased, more of the optical signal being transmitted along the optical transmission path is interrupted. A multi-stage comparator is responsive to an interruption of the optical signal so as to cause a corresponding number of LEDs from the display to be illuminated. The LEDs are arranged in a pair of linear arrays that arc aligned in oppositely extending illumination paths, such that an identical number of LEDs from each array is simultaneously illuminated to create a highly visible bar graph display.
