Abstract: Apparatus for turning a strobe wheel to assist in tuning a musical instrument. The apparatus features side-by-side rotary shafts, including a driving shaft and a driven shaft--the former having uniform outside diameter along its length, and the latter having a taper along its length which taper is based on the mathematical formula that determines the intervals between successive notes in such an instrument. The driving wheel is turned at selected substantially constant speeds. The driven shaft is turned through an endless band which couples the shafts. The latter-mentioned shaft is intended for driving a strobe wheel.
Abstract: An improved electrophoretic development method comprising providing a liquid developer system having a backing electrode and a developer electrode, wherein the development electrode comprises a plurality of individually biased electrodes. According to this improved method, as an electrostatically imaged insulating member is contacted with the liquid developer and directed through a development zone defined by said electrodes, the leading edge of said insulating member selectively activates the individually biased development electrodes in synchronization with the travel of the insulation member through said zone, and the trailing edge of said insulating member selectively inactivates the individually biased development electrodes upon the withdrawal of the insulating member from said zone. This method is especially suitable for preparation of reversal images by electrophoretic development.
Abstract: A metal string for a fingerboard type stringed musical instrument has a core wire, or wires, and a first part of the length of the string is loaded in known manner whilst a second part of the length of the string remains non-loaded, the respective lengths of the loaded and non-loaded portions being such that, when the string is fitted to a musical instrument having two string supports such as the conventional "nut" and "bridge," the string may be arranged with the loaded portion supported by the nut and with the non-loaded portion supported by the bridge, but with the vibrating portion between the nut and bridge (the "speaking length" of the string) constituted substantially wholly by loaded string.
Abstract: A teaching device for use with an organ, supported on the upper keyboard, with timed motor means to move an apertured record sheet between a light source and fiber optic connectors which transmit light signals to the fiber optic ends located over keys of the lower chord keyboard and through a sideways extending housing to fiber optic ends located over the keys of the upper melody keyboard in accordance with the placement of the apertures on the moving record sheet.
Abstract: Method for the production of a serigraphic screen by the photochemical method, characterized by the fact that, starting from a blank tubular screen obtained by tubular weaving or by closing a flat fabric on itself, one at least of the faces of the screen is coated with a photosensitive film, against the screen is placed a transparent tubular masking film bearing the design to be printed in ink in opaque zones, stretching the masking film and the screen axially and radially, under the conditions of tension wherein the finished screen will be used for the printing, urging the screen and the masking film against one another, and exposing to actinic rays, on the side of the masking film, the assembly of the superimposed masking film and screen, the photosensitive film being then removed by washing in the zones of the screen covered by the opaque zones of the masking film during exposure, while it remains in the irradiated zones.
Abstract: Daily engine checks or health tests are being developed for determining the ondition of an engine by relating significant performance parameters. One such health test, termed "HIT," utilizes exhaust gas temperature along with compressor speed. Since results of this test vary with outside air temperature conversions must be made by maintenance personnel and pilots. A calculating device is provided for this use.

Abstract: A power operated device that is mounted on a musical stringed instrument such as a guitar to selectively bring one or a desired group of rotating members into light pressure contact with strings of the instrument to cause one or a desired group of strings to vibrate at least so long as the rotatable members are in rotating contact therewith to emit musical tones. The device permits unusual and novel musical effects to be obtained from an instrument due to the strings being subjected to vibration for any desired period of time, in contrast to the short period of time a string vibrates to emit a musical tone when the string is plucked by a finger or with a pick.
Abstract: A piano mechanism for correlating the movement of the damper with the movement of the hammer consists of a hammer lifter connected between the hammer arm and the damper arm at a location on the side of its axis opposite to that of the damper itself.
Abstract: An adjustable end pin for a string bass or cello. The end pin extends through a hub having a cavity containing a jam plate with a central hole through which the pin extends. The jam plate is normally biased by a spring to an angular position relative the pin to jam or lock the pin to the hub. However, upon pushing the collar to exert lever action on the jam plate to move it towards a right angular position, it will unlock the pin and allow incremental pulling out thereof from the hub to provide incremental adjustment of the height of the instrument from the floor.
Abstract: The noise from gas and oil burners can be reduced by using a burner quarl comprising a ceramic tube which is permeable or which has at least one permeable zone along its length, and which is surrounded along the permeable part by parts of the length of the tube by at least one sound absorbing chamber.
Abstract: A time and tide calculating device for wrist watches clocks and calculators that register the tides and the time of the tides, comprising rotatable concentric tide and calendar discs placed adjacent to a clock face for indicative registration and cooperation with time telling devices, having various arrangements of said tide and calendar discs showing tide positions and the calendar date in registration with clock and watch faces that also include digital information on day, date and the AM or PM by the development of new clock works to rotate such information required for telling the date, the time, the AM or PM, the tide and a reference on said calendar disc responsive to showing the state of the tides in advance for the following days of a calendar.
Abstract: A light fixture system to be used for identification purposes as well as for security. The system includes a housing having an internal chamber which is adapted to be mounted to the external wall of an edifice. A translucent first window member covers an opening formed through a frontal portion of the housing. A second, substantially transparent, window member located below and to the rear of the first window provides illumination of a name plate and is used to provide illumination over a wide external area for security purposes. The first window member includes indicia formed thereon for purposes of identification. Specific contouring of the overall shape of the housing provides for an aid in water proofing the internal structure of the lighting system. A fluorescent or generally gas vapor type lamp is contained within the housing chamber to provide illumination through the first and second window members mounted on the housing periphery.
Abstract: A programmable piano has a keyboard in which each of the keys has a transparent window and a rotatable roller is mounted beneath the keyboard such that the surface of the roller directly beneath each of the keys is visible through the transparent window thereof. A sheet of music is carried by the roller and has a progression of notes thereon which are representative of a musical composition. A motor drives the roller and thereby presents to the windows of the keys in proper order and at a regulated rate the progression of notes so that a person can play the musical composition by manipulation of the keys selectively in accordance with the notes which appear in the windows.
