  • Patent number: 6371493
Abstract: The invention provides a chuck including a plurality of jaws (8), each of which is fixed to the forward end of a jaw carrier arm (5), said arm (5) being borne by a pivot joint (6) mounted on the body (1) of the chuck and the rotation of which imparts to the jaw (8) an essentially radial movement, said rotation being controlled by radially displacing a sliding member (4) pushing a truncated sphere (10) housed between said sliding member (4) and a recess provided in the arm (5) to the rear of said pivot joint (6). Furthermore, said truncated sphere (10) is capable of sliding over the plane surface of contact with the sliding member (4), said jaw carrier arm (5) then sliding in the pivot joint (6) in an essentially axial direction, while being drawn rearwards by a return spring (7). The cutter plate is supported on a holder which is in turn supported on a rotatable eccentric such that rotation of the eccentric moves the holder radially. A cooperating converting device converts axial movement of an actuating device into rotation of the eccentric through intermeshing gear elements. A second tool, e.g., a reamer, is moved by a second push/pull rod axially with respect to the body of the tool and into the workpiece, and the second tool is supported on the axis of the main body.

  • Patent number: 6343901
Abstract: A rotary device has a releasable tool holder. A spindle with two ends has one end adapted to secure to a rotary device and the other includes a bore to receive a tool. A mechanism to retain and release the tool from the spindle bore is coupled with the spindle adjacent the bore end. At least two unlike retention members to apply a force on the tool in the bore are adjacent the bore. A sleeve surrounds the bore end of the spindle as well as the at least two unlike retention members. The sleeve has a common surface to apply a force on the at least two unlike retention members such that when the sleeve is axially moved along the spindle, the force is varied with respect to the position of the surface on the retention member. This force maintains the tool in the bore or enables the tool to be removed from the bore. A biasing member maintains the sleeve in a retention position on the spindle.

  • Patent number: 6341783
Abstract: A drill chuck has a body having a front part and a rear part, and formed with a plurality of angled guides opening axially forward at the front part. Respective jaws axially and radially displaceable in the guides are each formed with a row of teeth engaging an internal thread of a one-piece and unsplit tightening ring axially fixed but rotatable about the axis on the chuck-body front part and having an inner diameter greater than an outer diameter of the chuck-body front part. Thus rotation of the tightening ring displaces the jaws in their guides. A one-piece and unsplit snap ring set in the chuck-body rear part bears axially forward on the tightening ring, is formed with an array of outwardly projecting teeth, and has an inner diameter greater than the outer diameter of the chuck-body front part. An adjustment sleeve rotatable about the axis on the body has a front end with a surface bearing directly on the chuck-body front part.
