  • Patent number: 10103850
Abstract: A method and apparatus of a network element that keeps a port of the network element up in a split port configuration is described. In an exemplary embodiment, the network element receives an indication of a link loss on a receive interface of the port, wherein the port includes the receive interface and a transmit interface. In addition, the receive interface is coupled to a first device over a first link, and the transmit interface is coupled to a second device over a second link. Furthermore, the network element performs an operation of the port such that a link coupled to a transmit interface of the port remains up. The network element additionally suppresses receive faults that are received on the receive interface.

  • Patent number: 10063478
Abstract: A plurality of internal queues that receives and stores therein packets and that outputs each of the stored packets is included. Then, a transmission side meter counter and a reception side meter counter acquire transmission/reception information on the packets that are stored in each of the internal queues. A control unit creates, on the basis of the transmission/reception information, flow groups to each of which one or a plurality of flows belongs and allocates the internal queues to the flow groups. A scheduler determines, on the basis of the transmission/reception information and previously determined priority of the internal queues, the order in which each of the internal queues is output.

  • Patent number: 7821965
Abstract: A method for managing packet voice networks using a virtual switch approach and abstract information model approach is disclosed. A virtual switch object represents a virtual switch having a media gateway controller and one or more associated media gateways. User input specifies a configuration operation on the virtual switch and one or more parameter values. One or more configuration instructions are automatically issued to both the media gateway controller and the media gateway, resulting in configuring both the media gateway controller and the media gateway as specified in the user input. As a result, a user can configure or operate on a virtual switch as an atomic entity, for example, in a network management application, without involvement in complicated details of the actual network devices that provide a particular packet voice service.

  • Patent number: 7474654
Abstract: A method and apparatus for classification of packets is provided. The method includes classifying the packets based on the structured part of at least one packet classification rule, and classifying the packets based on the unstructured part of the at least one packet classification rule, the classification being done based on the structured classification results. The packet classification method provides a technique for splitting the n-dimensional space of the packet header fields into disjoint regions. The splitting is done such that all the packets falling into a region have the same packet classification result. The first packet falling into a region takes a longer time for classification, where the logical expression resulting from user-configured rule is solved. The classification of all subsequent packets falling into the same region gets accelerated and takes less time than the first packet to classify.

  • Patent number: 7466648
Abstract: There is disclosed a source messaging system having a queue for receiving messages. The source messaging system has means for determining whether a message should be permitted to become INDOUBT. This is done by retrieving a value denoting the maximum number of messages that may be permitted to become INDOUBT at any one time; determining whether the message falls within the range denoted by the value; and responsive to determining that the message falls within the range, permitting the message to become INDOUBT.

  • Patent number: 7463648
Abstract: An approach for allocating resources to an apparatus based on resource requirements generally involves a resource allocator receiving a request that specifies resource requirements for the apparatus. A resource allocator determines whether resources are available that satisfy the resource requirements. If resources are available that satisfy a resource requirement, the resource allocator indicates that the resource requirement is fulfilled and the resources are allocated to the apparatus. If resources are not available that satisfy a resource requirement, the resource allocator indicates that the resource requirement is not fulfilled and the resources are not allocated to the apparatus. The apparatus is implemented based on the allocated resources. A resource requirement can be optional so that if the optional resource requirement is not fulfilled, the apparatus can still be implemented.

  • Patent number: 7453816
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided by the present invention to automatically recover from a failed node concurrent maintenance operation. A control logic is provided to send a first test command to processors of a new node. If the first test command is successful, a second test command is sent to all processors or to the remaining nodes if nodes are removed. If the second command is successful, system operation is resumed with the newly configured topology with either nodes added or removed. If the response is incorrect or a timeout has occurred, the control logic restores values to the current mode register and sends a third test command to check for an error. A fatal system attention is sent to a service processor or system software if an error is encountered. If no error, system operation is resumed with previously configured topology.

  • Patent number: 7453804
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to an aggregate bandwidth utilization control scheme including fair share bandwidth allocation and dynamic allocation of bandwidth in response to detected traffic utilization. In one implementation, the present invention includes a weighted, fair share aggregate bandwidth allocation mechanism that dynamically responds to observed bandwidth utilization to provide unutilized or excess bandwidth to flows and partitions that require it. In another implementation, the present invention features a weighted fair share allocation scheme for hierarchical partition configurations. In other implementations, the present invention provides a per-flow target rate assignment mechanism that prevents spiraling decline of data flow rates.

  • Patent number: RE40777
Abstract: In order to improve the performance of physical channels in telecommunications systems using wire-free telecommunication between mobile and/or stationary transmitting/receiving appliances as a function of; the channel data transmission rate, the system environment, the system utilization and the distance between the transmitting/receiving appliances, such that no circuitry changes are required to the transmitters and/or receivers in the transmitting/receiving appliances, an air interface is proposed, in which the number of NPILOT bits, NTPC bits and NTFC1 bits are each variable, and in which, in particular during an active or passive telecommunications link between the mobile and/or stationary transmitting/receiving appliances in the telecommunications system, the number of NPILOT bits, NTPC bits and NTFC1 bits can each be varied and/or optimized adaptively by control means, such as by suitable “layer 2” or “layer 3” signaling (“layer 2/3” signaling) which takes place, for example, via the DPDCH channel.

  • Patent number: RE41174
Abstract: The invention provides an information retrieval apparatus and an information retrieval method by which information can be retrieved in an improved operability. A CPU controls a video camera to fetch an image and controls a GPS to detect a current position. The CPU reads out, from within image data stored in a corresponding relationship with URLs of WWW servers, those image data which correspond to position data regarding positions around the detected current position from a WWW data base via a modem and a host machine. Then, the CPU selects, from among the read out image data, that image data which matches with the fetched data, reads out a URL corresponding to the image data and accesses a WWW server designated by the URL.
