  • Patent number: 5641186
Abstract: A locking arrangement is provided for releasably locking door panels made of flexible material. The locking arrangement is adapted to be used on door panels of conventional vehicle shelters. The locking arrangement comprises a pair of generally hook-shaped locking members attached to the inner peripheral edges of the door panels. The locking members have mutually engaging hooking sections. A resiliently biased portion of the door panel biases the hooking members away from each other, thus lockingly forcing the hooking sections against each other. The specific configuration of the locking members is adapted to prevent the members from being unlocked by external pressure caused by the wind blowing onto the exterior surface of the door panels. A pair of gripping apertures extending through the door panels adjacent the locking structures facilitate the handling of the locking assembly.

  • Patent number: 5640730
Abstract: An adjustable articulated bed having a back support section, a head rest section, an angled lifting lever, and a crank assembly operatively connecting the bed motor to the lifting lever. A slidable pin-and-slot arrangement connects the head end of the lever to the head rest section. As the lever is pivoted it first tilts the head rest section up relative to the (horizontal) back support section to a relative tilt position. Continued pivoting of the lever causes it to engage, lift and pivot the back support section up about the lifting-lever pivot axis. The head rest section, while maintaining the relative tilt position, is pivoted up with it. A polyfoam foundation affixed to the tops of both the back support and head rest sections tends to drag or lift the back support section up as the head rest section is pivoted up.

  • Patent number: 5640864
Abstract: The cylinder lock according to the present invention comprises a latch 19 movably disposed between the joint position connecting the key cylinder 16 and a driver 18 and the release position disengaging the key cylinder 16 and a driver 18; and a clutch 20 for transferring the latch 19 to the release position when a sleeve 13 rotates relatively to a housing 11 with an improper key. When a proper key is inserted into the key cylinder 16, it can be rotated without rotation of the sleeve 13 so that the driver 18 can be rotated to the locked or unlocked position through the latch 19 which drivingly connects the key cylinder 16 and the driver 18. When an improper key is inserted into the key cylinder 16 and rotated, the sleeve 13 is rotated with the key cylinder 16 through tumblers 17 so that radial movement of the clutch 20 disengages the latch 19 and driver 18, thereby preventing unauthorized unlocking of the cylinder lock 10 without rotation of the driver 18.

  • Patent number: 5638708
Abstract: A combination lock device with latch bolt includes a combination lock, a rotary rod means, a faceplate, a securing seat, a turning means, a slide piece, a latch bolt and a housing. In order to unlock the combination lock, number dials are turned to a preset code number so that a lock hook disengages from a retain slot of the faceplate. The user may then turn the combination lock counter-clockwisely to cause the turning means to turn therewith, so that a connecting piece at a bottom side of the rotary rod means also rotate, causing a notch of the connecting piece to push a post of a turning piece to displace through 90 degrees. A slide piece is caused to displace forwardly as a result of the post pushing a slide slot, so that a movable pin on two U-shaped indentations of the slide piece displaces upwardly and then downwardly by means of a spring, causing the latch bolt to retract into the housing. Locking may be achieved by reverse operation.

  • Patent number: 5636394
Abstract: A hospital bed including a base adapted to roll over the floor, a litter disposed on the base upon which the patient rests, a lift assembly designed to selectively position the litter a selected vertical distance above the base and at least one stabilizer unit between the litter and the base. Each stabilizer unit includes a pair of rack-and-pinion assemblies that extend between the base and the litter. The pinions of the rack-and-pinion assembly are connected together to rotate in unison. Owing to the interconnection of the pinions, the rack-and-pinion assemblies are prevented from moving vertically in directions opposite to each other. This lock-out of the rack-and-pinion movement prevents the litter from moving side-to-side. The stabilizer unit thus prevents the undesirable side-to-side rocking movement of the litter.

  • Patent number: 5636881
Abstract: A latch housing defines an axial passage accessible at opposite ends thereof. Latch elements are radially displaced about the axis of the axial passage. A solenoid is mounted to an end of the latch housing and a post is inserted axially into the opposite end of the axial passage. The latch elements are biased to constrict around and preclude withdrawal of the post from the axial passage. An armature of the solenoid extends into the axial passage and a disengagement plate is attached to that end of the armature. As the post is inserted into the axial passage, a slot in the post mates with the disengagement plate, and the terminus of the slot contacts the disengagement plate causing the disengagement plate to translate along the axial passage with the post.
