Patent number: 4659126Abstract: A tool inserted within a circular duct is adapted to securely engage the inner surface of the duct to facilitate drawing the duct through a conduit. The tool includes a screw inserted within a hollow tube-like member open at a first end and having a threaded inner surface along the length thereof for engaging the screw. A second, closed end of the tube-like member includes an expanded end portion. Positioned on the screw adjacent the first end of the tube-like member is a nut. Located along the length on the outside of the tube-like member are a plurality of alternately arranged rigid cylindrical spacers and compressible tubular sleeves. Displacement of the nut along the screw toward the hollow tube-like member causes the nut to abut and displace an immediately adjacent cylindrical spacer. Further rotation of the nut produces an abutting linear arrangement of the alternating cylindrical spacers and tubular sleeves causing the longitudinal compression of each of the tubular sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1984Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Assignee: Illinois Bell Telephone CompanyInventors: Steven E. Patent number: 4656716Abstract: A tool for use with a type of bookbinding strips wherein one strip is formed with bendable studs and the second strip is formed with holes and grooves in one surface extending away from the holes. The grooves are preferably formed with overhanging top longitudinal edges so that the studs, after passing through holes in the pages of the book and the holes in the second strip may be bent down into the grooves, snapping under the overhanging edges. The tool of this invention may be gripped at one end and drawn along the top of the second strip, bending the studs down into the channel. For this purpose, the end is curved and also recessed to receive the second strip. To bend the studs upward to debind the book, the tool is also formed with a shallow slot having a protrusion therein formed on one or opposite sides with depressions into which the pointed end of a stud may fit. By pulling the tool away from the second strip, the stud is bent upward to approximately its original position.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: VeloBind, Inc.Inventor: Karl Hymmen

Patent number: 4649618Abstract: A method for removing an oil seal and the like from a housing is disclosed, wherein the seal is of the type which is received in the housing for providing a sealed relation between the housing and a shaft which projects outwardly through the seal. The method is preferably carried out utilizing a tool which comprises a shank portion, and a working portion of generally S-shaped configuration which extends from the shank portion, the working portion comprising an upper portion and a lower portion which terminates in a tapered pry point. The tool is operable for removing a seal in accordance with the method by inserting the pry point between the seal and the shaft and then moving the tool so that the lower portion of the working portion rolls on the shaft to extract the seal. Thereafter, if necessary, the tool can be rolled further on the shaft until the upper portion engages the end of the shaft to provide additional leverage for extracting the seal.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1986Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Inventor: Scott A. Patent number: 4648585Abstract: A vise structure has a control handle cooperating with a two-part guide rod means, including respective inner and outer rods mounted telescopically relative to each other. The handle is rotatably supported on the frame and has a limited longitudinal movement thereon. In one longitudinal position, the handle is coupled only to the inner rod for rotation in unison; and the inner rod is linked to a pair of pivotably-mounted vise jaws arranged to move towards and away from each other transversely of the vise structure. In a second position of the handle, both the inner and outer rods are rotated for movement of the pivotably-mounted vise jaws and, respectively, for longitudinal movement of a transversely-arranged elongated vise jaw from one end of the structure to its other end. In a third position of the handle, only the outer end is rotated for movement of only the elongated vise jaw. The vise structure is adapted for a work bench and is arranged to clamp various irregularly-shaped work pieces therein.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Inventor: Tai-Her Yang

Patent number: 4646408Abstract: A device for fastening together the parts of a heat-insulated composite section consisting of two metal sections and of at least one insulating rod has knurling rollers that shape exterior groove webs, forces them against the insulating rod, provides them with a knurled strip. The knurling roller has conical, toothed, circumferential surfaces. The bottom land between each pair of teeth parallels the conical circumferential surface. The knurling rollers are mounted in a tensioning mechanism that consists of two annular disks in such a way that it can be displaced along its axis. It can be displaced 0.5 to 1 mm to each side out of an intermediate position. The axial flotation make it possible to compensate for errors in alignment between the knurling roller and the composite section that occur while the groove webs are being shaped as a result of undesirable superimposition of the tolerances of the separate parts. The knurling rollers are mounted in such a way that they cannot rotate on powered shafts.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1984Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: Schuco Heinz Schurmann GmbH & Co.Inventors: Tilo Jager, Armin Tonsmann, Siegfried Habicht, Eitel Hocker

Patent number: 4642865Abstract: An automatic apparatus for pressure packing of a food casing including a yoke assembly for slidably receiving a neck portion of the casing. A rotating jaw assembly grasps a forward end of the casing and pulls the casing through the throat section by wrapping a forward portion of the casing about a cylindrical member constituting the jaw assembly. A feed mechanism feeds flat clips through a sequence of operating stations. At one of the operating stations a reciprocating forming die descends onto the flat clip and bends it into an inverted U-shaped clip. At another station, a reciprocating crimping die descends onto a bent clip and carries the bent clip into the throat section to crimp the shaped clip around the neck portion of the casing being retained in the throat section.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1984Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Inventor: Howard Kelem
