    Abstract: A confection including a candy product, a substantially elongate base member having opposed first and second ends and an interior compartment. The first end of the base member has an opening leading to the interior compartment while the second end of the base member has support and retaining structure for supporting and retaining the candy product in a fixed position relative to the base member. A cap removably engages with the base member at the second end and encloses the candy product when in engagement with the base member. A sealing member close the opening at the first end of the base member to thereby seal the interior compartment thereof. A small toy may be placed in the interior compartment and is accessible by removing the sealing member from engagement with the base member. The candy product or mass may have a plurality of different tastes and/or a plurality of different colors.

While the first layer is impervious to liquids, the second layer, secured to the first layer is formed of a moisture absorbent material. The first and second layers form a butler for receiving the porous holder after the beverage has been made. Initially, the tab is folded to the size and shape of a standard tab, and is thereafter unfold-able to form the butler which is sized to receive the porous holder.

    Abstract: A bottled water contained system for admixture of frozen juice and powdered drink concentrates is disclosed. This invention provides a plurality of plastic containers including bottled water from an identifiable commercial source of a volume which is less than the total volume of the container. The admixture of the concentrate in frozen, liquid, or powdered form provides a reconstituted fruit drink of a volume which fills the container to capacity. In one embodiment a bottled water container generally in the form of a pitcher is provided with a mouth opening which is dimensioned to receive a standard-sized can of frozen juice concentrate. In an alternative embodiment the bottled water container is provided with a cup-shaped insert which resides in the mouth opening of the container to give the appearance of a full container. The insert has a volume equal to the volume of a standard-sized can of frozen juice concentrate which is added to the container after the insert is removed.

    Abstract: A lollipop comprises a ball of hard candy and an edible stick having a first end extending into a cavity in the ball. The stick comprises pressed candy and a multiplicity of confectionary chips interspersed in the pressed candy. The stick is preferably received into a plastic sleeve to provide a lollipop assembly in which the stick is protected from direct contact while the candy ball is being eaten. In the manufacture of the lollipop, a plurality of book molds are positioned in a line and linked together for simultaneous opening and closing. A plurality of nozzles inject hot syrup into the molds. When the syrup has cooled and the sticks have been anchored therein, the molds are inverted and opened to allow the lollipops to drop out. The manufacture operation is automated and synchronized for maximum efficiency.

The bottle cap is designed to be screw threaded or snap fitted onto the standard lip portion of glass or plastic drinking containers. Upon application of a downward force, the flavor enhancers are squeezed from the flexible bellows, and injected downwardly into the bland liquid substances held in the bottle.

The stalk includes a leg projecting from each component, the legs being encompassed within a solid confectionery portion which precludes separation of the legs and, hence, of the components. One of the two legs includes an end or terminus disposed closer to the surface of the confectionery portion than the other leg. The user need only remove increments of the confection to expose the shorter leg, thereby enabling separation of the legs and opening of the container while the remainder of the confectionery portion remains mounted on the longer leg.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a peelable laminate suitable for cook-in packaging and a method of cooking a food product. The method includes the steps of:a) enclosing a food product in the peelable laminate, the peelable laminate having(1) an edible film in contact with the food product, and(2) a protective film peelably adhered to the edible film; andb) heating the enclosed food product to at least partially cook the food product, the edible layer adhering to the at least partially cooked food product with an adhesive strength which is greater than the force required to peel the protective film from the edible film. In this manner, the protective film can be peeled from the edible film after cooking without product loss due to adherence of food particles to the film. Furthermore, the peelable laminate prevents or minimizes cook-out and allows a modifier to be transferred to the food product via the edible film during the cooking process.

    Abstract: This Precise Recipe Spice Dispenser is an aid to cooks, providing accurate and speedy dispensing of proper amounts of spices in correct sequence for a given recipe. A transparent plastic form contains a series of separate trough-shaped spice compartments with open faces. The sequence and sizes of the compartments depend on the order and amounts of the individual spices required. The plastic form, when filled with the spices, is sealed to the front layer of a double-layer chipboard backing, such that the open periphery of the spice compartments exactly matches a cutout in the front layer. The back layer has a peelable strip with a peripheral perforation exactly back-to-back with the cutout periphery in the front layer. The names of the spices and the recipe as a whole may be printed on the front layer next to the sealed spice compartments. When the first spice is needed, the peelable strip is peeled back to expose just the first compartment, leaving the other compartments sealed.

    Abstract: An improvement to existing meals-ready-to-eat (MRE) rotational retort processes reduces the time that the food is exposed to heat. This is achieved by adding a pulsed electric field process (PEF) to the MRE process to aid in inactivating microorganisms in the food. The food may then be exposed to heat only long enough to obtain the desired sensory characteristics. Because the PEF inactivates the microorganisms in the food, the food does not have to be exposed to high temperatures for a prolonged time. As a result, the food is sterilized without losing the desired sensory characteristics or nutritional value. Moreover, the process may easily be incorporated into existing MRE production processes.
