  • Patent number: 8560383
Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for distributing, and redeeming manufacturer coupons for a product purchase in a retail environment. With the mechanism of the illustrative embodiments, the data processing system of a retailer (hereinafter the loyalty coupon system) receives an electronic coupon from a manufacturer. The loyalty coupon system links the product to the inventory control system of the retail environment. The loyalty coupon system then targets the electronic coupon to customers that have subscribed to the loyalty coupon system. The coupon system provides for the communication of the product coupon directly to each subscribed customer on the list. Upon a customer selecting the coupon, the loyalty coupon system configures a customer reward. Upon the customer purchasing the product using their loyalty card, the loyalty coupon system disburses the customer reward at the point of sale. The manufacturer is billed for the redeemed coupon.

  • Patent number: 8527352
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and method for generating a bid amount for one or more keywords for a display of an advertisement associated with a given keyword. The method comprises calculating estimates of one or more advertising metrics for one or more keywords associated with one or more advertisements displayed at one or more positions. Target positions are identified for the one or more keywords at which a return on investment earned by the display of one or more advertisements in response to a query that matches a given keyword exceeds a threshold by a given probability on the basis of the estimates to select a given target position that provides a greatest estimated profit. Bid amounts are generated for the one or more keywords in order to obtain the display of associated advertisements at the given target position.

  • Patent number: 8527594
Abstract: Blog advertisement selection and placement is driven by the analysis of different facets, which are defined as why-facet, how-facet, who-facet and what-facet. The objective of defining such facets and their labels is to be able to better classify and distinguish information from blogs with the goal to use these different facets to better target advertisements on blogs. A model of features is built and maintained that classifies information from blogs along the defined facets. The features, including non-keywords and keywords, are extracted from a set of blogs of at least one blogosphere. Non-keywords are related to the blog information and keywords, and assist the keywords in the classification of the different facets/labels. An advertising campaign is defined in terms of the defined facets. The model and the defined advertising campaign will then be able to determine and/or predict placement of an advertisement in a blog or blog page.

  • Patent number: 8473350
Abstract: The disclosure details the implementation of apparatuses, methods and systems for a Framework for Ad-hoc Applications Based on Advertising (FAABA). The FAABA may employ short-range radio-frequency communications. The disclosure teaches mechanisms for providing targeted advertising in connection with ad-hoc applications/point-to-point (P2P) communications between user terminals. In a manner, the invention teaches general collection components for user terminals, which is responsible for collecting and maintaining a dynamic set of advertisements as a background operation. This allows the user terminals to initiate applications that are based on P2P communication, and furthermore, allows collections of pre-loaded advertisements to be provided to the user terminals along and/or during the P2P communications.

  • Patent number: 8396746
Abstract: A user is associated with profile information indicating a level of interest in a plurality of topic categories. To obtain an advertisement for a preferred category, the client requests advertisements data from two servers. A request to one of the ad servers includes a user preferred category and a number of other categories. A request to the other ad server includes only the other categories. After the servers send advertisements corresponding to the categories in the requests, a difference is determined between the received advertisements, which produces the advertisement for the preferred category. In some embodiments, a single request is made to a server for a number of advertisements, those advertisements corresponding to the user's profile information are provided a higher likelihood of display in accordance with the advertisement's similarity to the user's profile.
