  • Patent number: 5613388
Abstract: A user of a self-powered electronic combination lock rotates an outer dial to cause generators to generate energy for storage in a capacitor bank. The user then rotates an inner dial to cause a microcontroller to sequentially display a combination of numbers, and presses the inner dial to select a displayed number. The microcontroller determines direction and extent of motion of the inner dial by receiving signals derived from Wiegand sensors placed in proximity to a magnetized disc which rotates integrally with the inner dial, and controls the display of numerals on an LCD display accordingly. When the microcontroller determines that a correct combination has been entered, it activates a motor to move a motor cam to act directly on a locking lever so that the locking lever can engage a drive cam integrally linked with the inner dial, to allow the inner dial to withdraw the lock's bolt.

  • Patent number: 5613385
Abstract: A vehicle detention device provides a pair of stopper blocks, where one of the stopper blocks moves on a guide shaft relative to the other stopper block secured to the guide shaft. A locking device is provided in order to prevent the movable stopper block from shifting away from a tire so that both the stationary and movable stopper blocks remain in contact with the tire at both sides of ground contact point to prevent rotation of the wheel with the tire mounted thereon. Using a pair of chains, the wheel is secured and placed under detention with the stopper blocks closely held in contact with the tire. Since the mechanical components necessary for releasing the tire and wheel are fully concealed by a key-actuated cover unit, no one can readily remove the vehicle detention device from the restrained vehicle without operating a proper key, thus securely detaining the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5611223
Abstract: A security apparatus for attaching a portable unit to be protected to a supporting surface. The security apparatus includes a normally deactivated passive locking unit, which is activated by an electronic key unit, which is portable and moved adjacent to the passive locking unit to power it. The key unit includes a device for coupling electromagnetically the key and the locking units to transmit electrical power therebetween. A magnet is concealed within the security device to activate the electronic key, only when it is placed in the proper position relative thereto. Additionally, a mechanical arrangement for a locking pin is employed to further provide a level of sophistication before the actual unlocking of the device occurs.

  • Patent number: 5609052
Abstract: A loader 30 and method of loading lock pins 104 and 112 into the plug portion 100 of a cylindrical lock. The loader 30 includes a body 32 and cover 34. The body 32 has a plurality of pin dispensing barrels 36 which are loaded with a preestablished plurality of lock pins 104 and 112. The body 32 fits under the plug portion 100 so that the pin dispensing barrels 36 abut and coaxially align with a corresponding plurality of pin cavities 102 in the plug portion 100, The combined body 32 and plug portion 100 are then turned upside down (rotated approximately 180') and gravity causes the lock pins 104 and 112 to vacate the pin dispensing barrels 36 and enter the pin cavities 102 in the plug portion 100.

  • Patent number: 5605065
Abstract: The apparatus is an improved magnetically operated locking device having a key and a cylinder. The cylinder has a longitudinal axis with a stator and a rotor. An interface is defined between the stator and the rotor. The rotor is rotatable by the key above the longitudinal axis of the cylinder. The improvement of the present invention includes a plurality of magnets on the key which are cooperative with a plurality of magnets mobile in the cylinder. The plurality of magnets on the key are gripped in sheaths of ferromagnetic material. The plurality of magnets on the cylinder are also gripped in sheaths of ferromagnetic material. The magnets of the cylinder are slidable in an area of the interface in holes formed within the cylinder. The plurality of magnets in the cylinder are slidable in the hole so as to lock the rotor against rotation relative to the stator. The magnets of the cylinder are magnetically identical and identically geometrically distributed as the plurality of magnets in the key.

  • Patent number: 5600981
Abstract: A cylinder assembly for a plate tumbler lock includes a plate tumbler which snap-fits into an assembled position by pushing the tumbler into its ward until a projecting detent flexes inwardly and passes by a retaining ledge in the side wall of the ward, and thereafter springs back outwardly so that the detent is retained by the ledge. A pair of notches, one located above and one below the tumbler detent, permit the tumbler to flex inwardly as the tumbler detent passes over the retaining ledge to eliminate any significant forces acting between the detent, the side wall of the tumbler ward and the retaining ledge, and thereby minimize the metal deformation of these components.

  • Patent number: 5590609
Abstract: An envelope dispenser (50) for use in an automated teller machine includes a lockable access door (14). The door includes a slot (20), integral with its first face (16). The door is locked by the engagement of a first member (36) in a first notch portion (24) of the slot. The door is unlocked by an actuator (46) which upon the receipt of an electrical signal moves the first member into a central portion (28) of the slot. In this position the door may be manually moved to a fully open position by a user. In the open position the actuator urges the first member into a second notch portion (26), which releasably holds the door in the open position. In the open position envelopes stored in the machine may be accessed. From the open position the door can either be manually closed or automatically closed by the cessation of the electrical signal which enables a spring (44) to move the first member to the central portion of the slot.
