Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting counterfeit magnetic stripes are provided. A method can include detecting magnetic flux transitions encoded on a magnetic stripe and the variation in distances between clocking flux transitions. The distance between variations in clocking flux transitions is greater in counterfeit cards than in legitimate cards. The variations in distances can be compared with known values of legitimate cards to detect the presence of a counterfeit magnetic stripe.

Abstract: A barcode reader may perform image processing functions to generate distinct image data records from the frame of image data of a barcode, select an image data record from the distinct image data records and decode the selected image data record. Each image data record may be generated by applying a distinct image processing function to the frame of image data. The barcode reader may capture multiple frames of image data in sequence based on image capture parameters. At least one of the multiple frames of image data may be captured with a distinct parameter value. The image capture parameters may include an exposure setting, a gain setting, a resolution setting, and/or an illumination setting.
Abstract: Disclosed is a two-dimensional code having improved design characteristics, for which any image can be added. The disclosed two-dimensional code divides data displayed in binary code into cells, arranges same as a pattern in a two-dimensional matrix, and has a position detection pattern. The two-dimensional code has embedded design information that indicates the existence of design areas wherein any design can be arranged and, if a design area exists, the position of the design area.
Abstract: An exemplary method of decoding a barcode uses a barcode template of known fixed fields in the barcode to enhance error correction in decoding of the barcode. A barcode having encoded data is scanned with an exemplary electronic device including a barcode scanner, a memory, and a barcode template stored in the memory. The barcode template includes fixed data fields and variable data fields. The barcode's encoded data are sampled into a codeword array, and a barcode template that matches the format of the scanned barcode is selected. Typically, error correction is then performed on the codeword array, and the error-corrected codeword array is then outputted.
Abstract: A method for reading a graphical indicator is provided. The method includes the following steps. An indicator image including a plurality of graphical micro-units is obtained. According to a portion of the graphical micro-units, a first header part and a first content data part belonging to a first image indicator are obtained. According to another portion of the graphical micro-units, a second header part and a second content data part belonging to a second image indicator are obtained. The graphical micro-units of the first content data part are further used to obtain the indicator data. When a portion of the graphical micro-units in the first content data part is lost, the complete graphical micro-units can be obtained by recovering the lost graphical micro-units of the first content data part according to the graphical micro-units belonging to the first and the second content data parts captured in the indicator image.
Abstract: A registered provider device encrypts provider input related to a transaction between the provider device and one of many registered user devices to create an encrypted one-time-use provider code (the encryption is performed using an encryption key produced, in part, using a uniquely sequenced number generated by a sequencer maintained by the provider device). Similarly, the user device encrypts user input to create an encrypted one-time-use user code using an encryption key produced, in part, using a uniquely sequenced number generated by a user sequencer maintained by the user device. The provider and user devices independently transmit their different encrypted one-time-use codes to an intermediate entity, which decrypts the encrypted codes. This decryption is performed using one-time-use encryption keys produced using sequencers maintained by the intermediate entity, and this decryption generates an authorization request.
Abstract: A container may include a tubular sidewall defining interior and exterior surfaces of the container, and including first and second regions disposed relative to one another along a major axis of the tubular sidewall. The container further may include an identification mark embedded within the tubular sidewall at a plurality of sectors about the tubular sidewall within the first region. Each sector may have a width, and the identification mark is machine readable by a reader viewing any arbitrary one or more of the sectors. An exemplary method for preparing such a container is also provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to blocking fraudulent gathering of credit card and debit card information during a legitimate payment transaction at a credit/debit card reader. The invention includes the installation, preferably in a non-uniform manner, of blockers onto one or more faces or surfaces of the card reader. Properly installed blockers will tend to prevent the easy installation of a flush mounted skimmer device that is designed to overlay the legitimate card reader at a store or point of sale location such as a gasoline pump.

Abstract: A printed code associated with a product is illuminated with light having a first lighting characteristic, and is readable in a default mode of an imaging reader. An electronic code displayed on a mobile communication device is readable in another mode of the reader, with a different second lighting characteristic that is designed to minimize specular reflection from a screen of the device. When the presence of the device in close proximity to the reader is detected, the reader is automatically configured to switch from the default mode to the other mode to enable the electronic code to be read.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the technical field of radio frequency identification, in particular to a rectifier and limiter circuit controlled by switching signals and a passive radio frequency tag comprising the rectifier and limiter circuit. The rectifier and limiter circuit controlled by switching signals provided by the present invention converts DC signals, which are absorbed and rectified by an inductance coil antenna of a passive RFID tag, into high- and low-level signals and inputs the high- and low-level signals into the control input terminals of discharge paths of a rectifier circuit. The discharge paths are controlled to be opened or closed according to the amount of charge. The amplitude limiting control of the circuit voltage is realized by dynamically adjusting the voltage amplitude of a rectifier, thereby meeting the requirements on reliability of over-voltage protection of a semiconductor device on a chip and avoiding saturation of reception at the card reader side.
