  • Patent number: 8233838
Abstract: A registration server (40) is connected to a mobile terminal (20) via a communication network (10) and registers desired scene information specifying a desired scene of a user in a broadcast program together with the communication address information (telephone number or mail address or the like) of the mobile terminal (20). A scene management server (42) classifies and manages the scene information on the real scene appearing in the broadcast program. A message transmission server (46) checks whether the real scene corresponds to the desired scene. If it does, the scene management server (42) transmits scene information indicating that broadcast of the desired scene is or has been started via the communication network (10) or the data broadcast to the user, i.e., the mobile terminal (20). In response to the notification of the scene information, the user of the mobile terminal (20) can view the scene substantially in real time by the TV On instruction without performing channel setting.

  • Patent number: 8224341
Abstract: Provided is a method for providing a service, and a method and an apparatus for allocating a resource in a wireless communication system. Services to be provided to users are divided into one of primary and secondary services based on priority in terms of frequency utilization. A service is provided using frequency channel remaining after being used in the primary service in a time zone when frequency utilization rate of the primary service is a threshold value or less. Accordingly, when service data corresponding to the secondary service are received, a user terminal stores the service data in a storage unit. Then, when the user requests provision of the corresponding service, the user terminal provides the stored service data to the user.

  • Patent number: 8219030
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing distributed frequency planning and reuse factor optimization based upon forward link and/or reverse link interference management techniques. An optimal reuse factor for a base station can be determined based upon a metric that evaluates levels of service associated with neighboring base stations. Moreover, a subset of available resource sets can be selected for use by the base station; thus, a base station specific collection of resource sets can be formed through such selection. Further, mappings of each resource set to a set of physical resources can be disseminated in a network or portion thereof. According to another example, frequency hopping can be constrained to use of resources within a resource set (rather than across more than one resource set) as provided in a base station specific hopping pattern.

  • Patent number: 8208970
Abstract: A wireless communication system based on a directional speaker is disclosed. The system can include an interface unit and a base unit. The audio signals from the speaker can be generated by transforming ultrasonic signals in air. This allows the production of directional audio signals even when the aperture of the speaker has dimensions in the order of a few centimeters. The audio signals from the speaker can be heard hands-free. Further, privacy protection is enhanced. In one embodiment, the interface unit can be attached or integrated to a piece of clothing at the shoulder of the user, with the audio signals from the speaker directed towards one of the user's ears. The wireless communication system can be applied to a number of different areas, including a communication device, such as a cell phone; a hearing aid; an entertainment system; and a computation system, such as a personal digital assistant or a computer.

  • Patent number: 8204535
Abstract: Exemplary methods and systems are described that may be employed in a radio access network in order to aggregate the power-control messages from the sectors in a mobile station's active set, and provide an aggregate reverse-link power-control indication, in all active sectors. To do so, an exemplary base station may periodically determine an appropriate reverse-link power adjustment for a mobile station. However, rather than immediately send power-adjustment indications to the mobile station, each base station serving an active sector is preferably configured to send the power-adjustment indication to mobile switching center. The mobile switching center then determines an aggregate power-control indication for the mobile station. The aggregate power-control indication may then be transmitted to the mobile station in each of the mobile station's active sectors.

  • Patent number: 8204530
Abstract: Techniques for controlling transmit power of a terminal are described. The terminal may send a first transmission (e.g., for pilot or signaling) on the reverse link, receive feedback (e.g., a power control command or an erasure indicator) for the first transmission, and adjust a reference power level based on the feedback. The terminal may also receive interference information and possibly other parameters such as a pilot quality indicator (PQI), an offset factor, and a boost factor from a sector. The terminal may determine transmit power for a second transmission to the sector based on the interference information, the reference power level, and/or the other parameters. The terminal may receive the feedback from one sector and may send the second transmission with CDMA or OFDMA to the same sector or a different sector.

  • Patent number: 8200291
Abstract: A safety device for automotive vehicles (cars, buses and trucks) or rail locomotives. The device inhibits use of cellular telephones and other communication devices that run the risk of distracting a driver/operator while the vehicle is in motion. Several techniques for inhibiting use are described which can be used individually or in a complementary combinations. In one technique, a rapidly varying signal level is created local to the communication device. The variations exceed the operational limits of the system, thereby inhibiting communications. In another technique, the safety device emits radiation that interferes with the reception of signals by the communication device only within the interior of the vehicle and will not interfere with cell phones or wireless devises outside the automotive vehicle or rail locomotive.
