  • Patent number: 9816969
Abstract: Providing adaptive channel state feedback (CSF) reports in discontinuous reception (DRX) scenarios in a power-efficient manner. The described algorithm may be able to make adaptive decisions to carry over the CSF from previous DRX cycles based on a comparison between an offset at which CSF values are stable and an offset at which a CSF report is to be sent to a base station. If the CSF values are not stable by the time the CSF report is to be sent, a CSF report from a prior DRX cycle may be used. Alternatively, if the CSF value are stable by the time the CSF report is to be sent, a determination may be made to either generate a new CSF report or use a prior CSF report. The latter determination may be made based on various criteria, including channel conditions and DRX cycle length.

  • Patent number: 9813319
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting packet loss in a communication network are provided. A first network element can determine that a first group of packets meets an observation threshold. The observation threshold can comprise a predetermined number of packets in a sequence. A first timer can be initiated when the first group of packets meets the observation threshold. A first packet can be detected at the first network element after the first timer is initiated. The first timer can be re-initiated when the first packet is detected at the first network element before the first timer expires and the first packet comprises a packet in the sequence greater than a last detected packet. A first packet loss can be determined when the first packet is not a next packet in the sequence.

  • Patent number: 9769712
Abstract: Performing a circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) call with improved reliability. A request to establish a CSFB call may be received by a UE that is currently in a pool overlap area. The network resource controller, or the base station, transmits information to the UE which indicates the pools in which neighboring cells are operating. The UE uses this information to select a circuit-switched cell on which to operate for the CSFB operation, wherein the selected CS cell is in the same pool area as the current pool area. This prevents the UE from inadvertently camping on a CS cell in a different pool area, which could cause call failure on some networks. The information provided by the base station may comprise a pool area id, or may comprise mapping relation information that is useable by the UE to determine the current pool area.

  • Patent number: 9699021
Abstract: For performing link adaptation in an Ethernet ring protection system, a link management controller (180) determines a ring protection state of an Ethernet protection ring. Further, the link management controller (180) adapts bandwidth of a link (25) of the Ethernet protection ring. Depending on the adapted bandwidth and the determined ring protection state, the link management controller (180) deactivates the link of the Ethernet protection ring. In particular, if the adapted bandwidth is below a threshold value and the ring protection state indicates that there is no link failure in the Ethernet protection ring, the link management controller (180) may deactivate the link (25).

  • Patent number: 9686633
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for enabling machine type communication in a long term evolution (LTE) network environment. In one embodiment, a Physical (PHY) layer of a LTE protocol stack maps data bits in resource elements of a logical channel to resource elements of a physical channel. The PHY layer identifies the data bits intended for legacy devices but mapped to a first set of resource elements of machine type communication (MTC) devices and the data bits intended for the MTC device but mapped to the second set of resource elements of the legacy devices. Accordingly, the PHY layer remaps the data bits intended for the legacy devices to the second set of resource elements and the data bits intended for the MTC devices to the first set of resource elements prior to transmission.
