  • Patent number: 9623262
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product to determine radiation dose from radionuclides used to treat a patient in need thereof. The present invention allows users to visualize and understand the impact of radionuclide choice, distribution of activity in the cell, distribution of activity among the cells, cell dimensions, cell separation distance, cluster size, and radiobiological response parameters on the capacity to kill populations of cells. All of these parameters can play a substantial role in determining the surviving fraction of cells. Accordingly, this system, method and computer program product can assist in designing treatment plans for therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals suited to individual needs.

  • Patent number: 9597170
Abstract: A totally implantable method for occluding the urethra or bladder neck utilizing an occlusive cuff connected to a control mechanism via a conduit tube. The occlusive cuff is reversibly changed from an activated (occlusive condition) to a deactivated (non-occlusive) condition by depressing a deactivation button contained within a resilient, elastomeric sheath surrounding the control mechanism. The occlusive condition is once again obtained by depressing an activation button also situated within the resilient sheath. In the occlusive condition, a preset tension is applied to a flexible diaphragm through a tensioning suture by a constant force spring contained within the control mechanism. This tension is translated into an occlusive pressure applied to the urethra or bladder neck sufficient to prevent urinary leakage.

  • Patent number: 9511243
Abstract: A patient safety system (PSS) (100) uses optical tracking in a linear accelerator treatment room to prevent gross setup errors. A patient (150) undergoes a computed tomography (CT) treatment-simulation scan while a CT ball bearing (BB) is on patient's surface. The CT BB is replaced with an infrared reflective marker (IRRM) (160) before radiotherapy treatment starts. Coordinates of the CT BB relative to an isocenter of the treatment room are used as reference for tracking. The coordinate system of an optical tracking system is converted to a coordinate system of the treatment room. The PSS evaluates setup accuracy for a radiotherapy session by comparing real-time position of the single IRRM determined by the optical tracking technology with a predicted reference position, and displays results on a graphical user interface. The PSS stops radiation when a deviation between real-time coordinates and predicted coordinates of the IRRM (160) exceeds a predefined threshold.

  • Patent number: 9504846
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices relating to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). A circuit having at least two inductors is used in a TMS device. A small inductor adjacent to the patient's head and a large inductor away from the patient is used. The inductors are coupled to the circuit using multiple semiconductor switching subsystems. The subsystems, when activated, couple the inductors to the circuit and the inductors act as a single inductance. When deactivated, the subsystems decouple the inductors from the circuit and each inductor individually recovers or dissipates/discharges energy stored within. Since each inductor dissipates energy separately from each other, a much shorter dissipation or recovery time is achieved in the inductor close to the patient's brain as compared to the larger inductor. While dissipating or discharging, the small inductor induces electric currents in the brain to thus achieve stimulation and elicit action potentials.
