  • Patent number: 6961343
Abstract: An input data (input frame) is sequentially stored in memory in time slot units. A counter counts the number of input pulses of a clock synchronous with the time slot of the input frame, outputs the count value as a write address to the memory, and outputs it as a read address to the memory. A processor in a cross-connection device preliminarily writes to the memory data indicating switching information of a time slot. The memory outputs the data stored at an address input from the counter as a read address to the memory. The memory outputs data of a time slot of an input frame stored at the address as time slot data of an output frame.

  • Patent number: 6950389
Abstract: An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission utilizes random phases across the OFDM sub-carrier components and differential encoding so that the phase information (i.e., phase values) does not have to be explicitly transmitted to a receiver. The OFDM data symbols are differentially encoded so that the phase information on the symbols that are multiplied together in the differential encoder is the same. Assuming use of a differential phase shift keying (DPSK) system, a phase sequence is used having “V” random phase values, where ?n,k is the phase value in the nth sub-carrier in the kth OFDM symbol and is periodic in n with V as the period. A current input symbol is then differentially encoded relative to the Vth previous encoded output from the encoder so that the phase values on the symbols multiplied together in the differential encoding process are the same.

  • Patent number: 6947397
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for adaptive data transmission enabling data transmission in a variable transmission rate in a communication system, where a number of users share a transmission medium to transmit data in the variable transmission rate, by using a transmission capacity which is not being currently used even if allocated to some users. According to the invention, the transmission rate variation rates of each of the variable transmission rate data transmission services are controlled within the spirit of current variable transmission rate services so that the data traffic of the existing variable transmission rate transmission services which is actually unable to be forecasted can be forecasted. Therefore, the idle transmission capacity available can be forecasted so that the data can be transmitted by using the idle capacity. In this way, the transmission capacity of the system can be more efficiently used.

  • Patent number: 6944146
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in a mobile communications system having a plurality of cell segments includes allocating a plurality of channels to perform communications and defining a plurality of time groups. A channel reuse pattern is provided that is based on the plurality of channel frequencies and the plurality of time groups. Control channels are carried in a different time slot of a frame in each time group. Predetermined time slots are allocated as guard periods to reduce likelihood of interference of signaling due to overlap of time slots in neighboring cell segments. In one arrangement, three channel frequencies are allocated. Further, three or four time groups are defined to provide an effective 3/9 or 4/12 channel reuse pattern. In each time group, control channels are carried in odd time slots of a time-division multiple access (TDMA) frame.

  • Patent number: 6937621
Abstract: An apparatus and method determine byte gain and loss adjustments that compensate for frequency differences between ingress and egress data rate signals in a SONET/SDH NE. The count of ingress data rate signal pulses at the time that data is requested by a switch fabric is compared to the count of egress data rate signal pulses at the time the requested data is passed through the switch fabric. If a delta phase equal to the difference in counts less a reference phase, is continuously greater than a positive value threshold for at least a time threshold period, then a byte gain adjustment is determined. On the other hand, if the delta phase is continuously less than a negative value threshold for at least the time threshold period, then a byte loss adjustment is determined.

  • Patent number: 6925075
Abstract: A correspondent host that needs to begin a real-time packet-data session with a mobile node sends a mobile IP binding request message to a home agent of the mobile node. The correspondent host does not send any further messages until it has received a binding update message in response to the binding request message. Upon receipt of the binding update message, the correspondent host knows a care-of address of the mobile node. A binding to the care-of address is created responsive to receipt of the binding update message. An RSVP PATH message is sent by the correspondent host responsive to receipt of the binding update message. The RSVP PATH message explicitly binds a data path of a packet flow to the mobile node. The correspondent host perceives a RSVP RESV message in response to the RSVP PATH message.

  • Patent number: 6917619
Abstract: A system for interconnecting ATM systems over an ATM facility using switch virtual connections, without having to reprogram existing addresses of the ATM systems when using a switching ATM service network. The system includes two or more ATM systems having an ATM system addressing scheme and an intermediate switching ATM network having an intermediate switching ATM network addressing scheme, which is independent of and unknown to the ATM systems. Calls are transmitted between hosts of different ATM systems via border node switches. The hosts are unaware of the intermediate switching ATM network addressing scheme and thus only identify the ATM system address of the called party host in a called party address information element. The border nodes serve as an interface between the two addressing schemes.

  • Patent number: 6914880
Abstract: A method of configuring a node in an IP network by creating a set of router table entries which form a set of virtually preconfigured cyclical routes, or p-cycles, within the IP network. This set of p-cycles is virtual in the sense that the only resources which they normally consume are routing table entries. No transmission capacity is required for them, unless/until they are used to carry packets (traffic.) These p-cycles sit idle and unused until a failure takes place. The routers surrounding the failure then use these p-cycles to route packets, which normally would be lost, around the failure. A router having an entry in its router table identifying the p-cycle, together with an associated port, is also disclosed, and also a data packet that may use a p-cycle to get to its destination.

  • Patent number: 6914907
Abstract: A method and apparatus that includes processing for providing multi-cast transmissions within a data network begins by determining, for a source virtual network, a list of downstream virtual sub-networks for multi-cast traffic based on a multi-cast routing protocol. The processing then continues by determining multi-cast group membership on as per downstream virtual sub-network, edge device, and port basis. The process continues when a data packet is received via the source virtual network. The processing then continues by generating a multi-cast session table entry based on the list of downstream virtual sub-networks and the multi-cast group membership. The process continues by establishing virtual connections between the source virtual network and edge devices coupled to virtual sub-networks identified in the list of downstream virtual sub-networks. Having generated the virtual connections, the processing continues by downloading the multi-cast session table to the edge devices.

  • Patent number: 6876668
Abstract: A system capable of dynamically reserving bandwidth and adjusting bandwidth reservations for active sessions of data communication in a data communications device is provided. The system generally separates the operation of bandwidth allocation and adjustment from the operation of data transport through the device, thereby allowing bandwidth reservations and adjustments to be made without disturbing sessions of data communication that are actively being transported through the device. The system can accept requests to allocate or reserve bandwidth in a data communications device using bandwidth reservation protocols such as RSVP. The reservation requests create sender state data that can be used to compute resource allocation data. The resource allocation data can be used to label data storage locations in a data storage mechanism according to the required bandwidth reservations.
