Abstract: This disclosure relates to apparatus for making fluid flow connections. The apparatus comprises a tubular metal member having first and second ends. The first end is mechanically formed to the shape of one part of a two part quick-connect coupling, the one part being integrally formed on the first end of the member. The second end is mechanically formed to the shape of another fitting part which is also integral with the member. The portion of the member between the two ends is shaped to follow a desired path in order to interconnect other components. The one part of the quick-connect coupling preferably forms a tubular receptacle having an annular internal groove, a snap ring in the groove, and a relatively viscous fluid at least partially filling the groove around the ring. The disclosure also relates to a method of making and assembling apparatus as described.

  • Patent number: 4730854
Abstract: A floor drain includes a cylindrical drain body having external threads formed thereabout and an upper flange extending radially outwardly from the drain body and disposed flush with the floor surface. A threaded nut is secured about the drain body to engage the lower surface of the floor. The drain body includes a lower bore portion adapted to receive the upper end of a waste discharge pipe, the pipe being secured therein by adhesive or the like. A plurality of shoulder stops extend inwardly from the upper end of the lower bore portion to limit the upward position of the waste discharge pipe. The upper end surface of the waste discharge pipe is substantially exposed by the shoulder stops, so that a bead of sealant may be disposed at the junction of the upper end surface and the lower bore to seal the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4728128
Abstract: A connection assembly for joining two parts having confronting ends with a joint therebetween, particularly ceramic pipes, includes a dimensionally stable coupling member surrounding the joint and at least one of the two confronting ends of the two parts to be joined. The coupling member is dimensioned to define a space with the at least one part end. This space is filled with a ceramic fiber mat material containing a swelling agent capable of volume expansion when subjected to a temperature above a given minimum temperature. As a result, upon being subjected to an operating temperature above such given temperature, the swelling agent swells the ceramic fiber mat material, such that the mat material is compressed between the coupling member and the at least one part end surrounded thereby, thereby connecting the two parts.

  • Patent number: 4728130
Abstract: A locking assembly for securing the connection between a push-on fitting having a flared end fitted into a cage and surrounded by a garter-type coiled spring housed within the cage on a pipe having a plurality of O-rings sealing the connection between the push-on fitting and the pipe. The assembly comprises an axially split male fitting and an axially split locking nut. The two halves of the axially split male fitting are sized to snugly encircle the push-on fitting with the ends of the two halves of the male fitting resting against the flared end of the push-on fitting and thus forcing the coiled spring away from the push-on fitting. The two halves of the axially split locking nut snugly encircle the cage housing the coiled spring while an internal face of the two halves of the nut engage and securely lock the position of the two halves of the male fitting.

  • Patent number: 4725082
Abstract: A pipe coupling assembly for plain end pipe of the type in which a packing ring is compressed in an internal groove by a thrust ring to squeeze it against the outer surface of the pipe and effect a seal therewith. The thrust ring is made of a plurality of accurate segments which can be economically produced and assembled in the coupling body. The segments are mechanically interlocked in the body by cooperation with other elements of the assembly to avoid separate retainer members. The segments have a configuration which avoids significant circumferential gaps in the packing compression face of the ring and reduces the necessary axial length of the groove.
