  • Patent number: 4697831
Abstract: A prefabricated assembly for forming a high tensile strength pipe connection is formed by providing a metallic muff and pressing one end of a pipe adapter made from plastic material into the muff. The metallic muff has an internal diameter formed with sawtooth projections which penetrate the material of the pipe adapter and the penetration is enhanced by inserting a smooth support sleeve into the pipe adapter, the support sleeve being stiffer than the pipe adapter and operating to effect a positive and frictionally locking connection. The opposite end of the pipe adapter may then be attached by welding or the like with a plastic material pipe to form thereby a tight connection at a utilization site.

  • Patent number: 4696494
Abstract: An adjustable flowline joint having an arcuate bell flange and a flanged assembly including a flange and a ring which are connected by studs and nuts, the assembly flange and ring have facing arcuate surfaces adapted to receive the arcuate bell flange therebetween, the nuts are tightened sufficiently to tension the studs to bring the arcuate surfaces into gripping clamping engagement with the arcuate bell flange and thereby make the joint rigid with metal-to-metal seals, an annular recess between the assembly flange and ring, and means for introducing fluid under pressure into the annular recess, whereby introduction of pressure into the recess increases the tension on the studs to cause sufficient elongation in them to relax the gripping clamping engagement of the surfaces on the arcuate bell flange and allow relative angular movement between the arcuate bell flange and the flange assembly to adjust angular relationship, release of pressure in the recess bringing the surfaces back into gripping engagement wi

  • Patent number: 4696391
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a continuous looped belt (10) having an upper run (11) for carrying a load and a return lower run (12). A single cable (100) is arranged over numerous pulleys to define two spaced parallel upper runs of cable (101) and two spaced parallel lower runs of cable (102) which support the belt runs (11, 12). The belt is broader than the spacing between the spaced runs of cable and seats on top of the cable. A cross-over arrangement (110) provides for the cable to form two identical and parallel cable portions defining the cable runs. All pulleys in one portion are mirrored by co-axial pulleys in the other portion, so that, at any point, the tension in one cable portion is equal to that in the other portion. A double drive roller arrangement reduces scuffing of the cable, so that the whole system substantially reduces wear of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4696497
Abstract: The invention proposes a quick connection which has utility in a wide field, for instance, for connecting fluid lines, electric cables, etc., and comprises an inserted tubular end portion, which is formed near its extreme end with concave recesses serving as detent means, and which is provided with a radially acting locking collar. The second tubular end portion comprises a socket, which contains an inserted locking ring, which has detent fingers, which releasably interlock with the concave recesses of the inserted tubular end portion and are provided on their back side with reversely foldable, thin webs which bear on the inside surface of the socket. Such quick coupling can be resiliently interlocked simply in that the tubular end portions are urged into each other, and can be unlocked only by an angular movement. The coupling is particularly adapted to be connected and disconnected by industrial robots in automated production sequences. The coupling transmits longitudinal forces and is radially locked.

  • Patent number: 4691942
Abstract: A quick disconnect cam locking fluid conveying coupling has a hollow male plug with there being an external circumferentially extending peripheral groove formed about the exterior thereof. The plug is received within a hollow socket and the socket has a pair of opposed windows aligned with the peripheral groove. Seal means interposed between the plug and the socket prevents fluid escaping from the coupling apparatus. A pair of cam members each have an operating lever and are positioned adjacent the socket with a cam portion passing through one of the windows and engaging the peripheral groove. A pair of ears is attached to the socket on opposed sides of the windows. A shaft extends through the ears and cam member so that each cam member is pivotally connected to the socket for outward movement of the levers away from the socket to disengage the cam for portions from the peripheral groove, thereby releasing the plug from the socket.

  • Patent number: 4690436
Abstract: A pipe coupling having an annular gasket deformed and compressed within a closed gasket chamber to form a seal for a pressurized hydraulic line, for example, one wall of the gasket chamber being formed by the outer surface of a pipe end portion which is to be connected either to a second pipe end portion or to a wall port. The axial width of the gasket chamber is determined by an abutment of the end face of the pipe end portion which transmits the abutment force to a threaded clamping sleeve or, as the case may be, to a coupling nut with the aid of a snap ring which engages a peripheral groove of the pipe end portion and a thrust shoulder of the threaded clamping sleeve. The pipe-to-pipe version of the coupling has two annular gaskets inside identical gasket chambers on opposite axial sides of a centering sleeve which surrounds both pipe end portions.

  • Patent number: 4686328
Abstract: A hermetically sealed connector for a glove box and a method for exchanging such connectors in which leakage of radioactive material from within the glove box is minimized and an auxiliary glove box is not needed to exchange the connectors. The connector is formed as a cylindrical member having a flange portion hermetically sealed to a packing provided in a through hole in the wall of the glove box. To exchange connectors, a nut is removed from the outer end of the old connector and a tube is screwed thereto. The other end of the tube is fitted to the inner end of the new connector. The tube is then shoved through the packing until the flange of the new connector aligns with the packing. The tube is then removed from the inner end of the new connector and a nut is screwed on in replacement for the tube.

  • Patent number: 4684156
Abstract: This invention relates to a coupling device for tubular members (11 and 12), of large truss structures, with a locking collar 20 being the only moving part. Each tubular member is constructed with an end bell section 15 that has a belled flange 17 with a mating face 18, and a necked area 16 which is smaller in diameter than the tubular members to be joined. A split ring 30 is affixed to each tubular member and is constructed so that then two tubular members are laterally moved into axial alignment and collar 20 is rotated thereover, the split ring loads the joint with axial force by pressing the belled flange mating surfaces together, and a preloading force is provided by the collar 20 mating with a taper on the outside of the split rings. All free play is thereby removed by preloaded force. A major object of the invention is to provide an ability to remove and replace individual tubular members without disturbing other structural parts of a truss structure.

  • Patent number: RE32482
Abstract: A device for connecting one liquid chromatography device to another. The device comprises an elongated, cylindrical shaft having an integral ferrule seat at each end of the shaft. A central bore extends through the shaft and the integral ferrule seats to permit liquid to pass therethrough. An enlarged collar is located centrally on the shaft to aid in attaching the device to chromatography equipment. Because of the short length of the device and minimum size of the central bore, the device has a minimum of interceding volume so that the efficiency of connected devices is uneffected.
