  • Patent number: 4906025
Abstract: A wristband is provided with a rectangular write-on surfaced mounting plate fastened centrally between opened ends on the outer surface of the wristband in longitudinal alignment with the wristband. The wristband is adjustable to the wrist size of the wearer and can be worn around the wearer's wrist held by fasteners attaching the opened ends together. The surface of the mounting plate is a smooth non-porous plastic designed to be written on with dry-erase markers and erased by wiping with a tissue. A snap-on transparent covering is provided to prevent smearing the writing. The transparent covering is replaceable by a decorative opaque cap. The caps can be snapped onto the mounting base. Some caps are hinged to one end of the mounting base and snap down over the other end. Writing on the write-on mounting base or on an inserted card can be viewed through the transparent covering.

  • Patent number: 4893837
Abstract: A protective book covering including a relatively long piece of sheet material and a relatively short piece of sheet material overlaying the long piece, the longitudinal edges of the two sheets being sealed together. A seal and tear line extending transverse to their longitudinal edges joins the two pieces and forms a line of severance along which the pieces can be torn to produce two units, each unit having a pocket adjacent to the seal and tear line for accommodating one of the covers of a book. One of the units has a section, extending from the pocket of that unit, long enough to wrap around the spine of the book, and be secured to the other unit. The sheet material is preferably transparent plastic. The book covering can be made in a continuous manner by providing independent lengths of relatively wide and relatively narrow plastic sheet material, and placing the lengths in face-to-face contact so that their longitudinal axes extend in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 4890524
Abstract: A trim press for severing articles differentially pressure formed in a thermoplastic sheet comprising a stationary die member and a movable trim die member mounted on a frame for movement toward and away from the stationary trim die member between a spaced apart position and a closed position in which the trim die members engage opposite sides of a sheet to sever the article from the sheet. Dynamically balanced drive mechanism is provided for moving the platen in a to-and-fro path of travel while concurrently oppositely moving a counterbalance weight movably mounted on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4886299
Abstract: A protective book cover of transparent plastic is formed with a strengthened spine section provided by a combination of a spine reinforcing strip and decreased height of the spine section of the protective cover. The book cover receiving pockets of the protective cover are formed with inwardly convex slant-cut edges to facilitate insertion of the book covers, and a card pocket is formed in one of the pockets by a slant-cut slit that is convex upwardly to provide an easily accessible opening. A heat weld seam forming the front and back cover pockets is provided with sharp rectangular inside corners for a closer fit of the protective cover to the book. The protective cover is adjustable for book width by forming it of a primary or outside panel that is scored for separation of a back cover portion which may be adjustably positioned and adhesively secured to a front cover portion.

  • Patent number: 4872381
Abstract: A punch apparatus for punching hole patterns in thin sheet material. The apparatus includes a housing having a liquid-cooled cavity therein; a coil mounted in the liquid-cooled cavity; a driver disk made of a highly conductive material mounted in the liquid-cooled cavity, the driver disk mounted adjacent to the coil; a driver button located outside of the liquid-cooled cavity but in communication with the driver disk; and a punch element for perforating thin sheet material aligned with the driver button. Finally, the apparatus includes an electrical source for energizing the coil with a pulse of electrical energy for generating flux linking the driver disk and the coil to repel the driver disk from the coil, thereby translating the driver button and the punch element, causing the punch element to perforate a thin sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 4872797
Abstract: An apparatus for opening a book having a plurality of pages held in assembled relation with adjacent foredges substantially in contact with one another. The apparatus includes a rotatable pin for initiating separation of pages of the book by contacting and entering the book at one end of the adjacent foredges to thereby cause one of the pages to be separated from a next adjacent of the pages at a selected location in the book. Additionally, at a ribbon inserting station, a ribbon inserter can be provided to insert a ribbon into the selected location in the book between the one of the pages and the next adjacent of the pages. The apparatus may also include a knife assembly downstream of the rotatable pin which is adapted to maintain separation of the pages upon entering the book at the selected location for any purpose such as accommodating insertion of a ribbon by the ribbon inserter. With this arrangement, the book opening apparatus is well suited for opening a book without damage to the pages thereof.
