Abstract: A metal rubber gasket includes a central metal lamina sandwiched by two outer elastomer layers. The elastomer is a blend of a butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber and a random terpolymer of ethylene, alkyl acrylate and the mono alkyl ester of a dioic acid. Preferably the butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber is functionally modified with polar groups such as a carboxyl, amine, or hydroxyl groups.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibiting calcium-containing amorphous precipitated silica is described. The silica is prepared by admixing simultaneously in a reactor aqueous alkali metal silicate, e.g., sodium silicate, acidifying agent, e.g., hydrochloric acid, and a water-soluble source of calcium, e.g., calcium chloride. The product contains from 6 to 9 weight percent calcium (as CaO). The silica product may be incorporated into a coating composition used for corrodible metallic surfaces.

Abstract: A thin film comprising a polymer having linear recurring units wherein an organic group R.sup.1 is combined alternately with an organic group R.sup.2 through a bivalent bonding group, wherein each of said group R.sup.1 and said group R.sup.2 has a valence of at least 2 and has at least 2 carbon atoms; each of said linear recurring units having at least one hydrocarbon-containing group R.sup.3 having 10 to 30 carbon atoms bonded with covalent bond, and a device having the thin film. The thin film of the invention is formed by building-up layers of the above polymer by LB technique, and the obtained film can be subjected to ring closure and to elimination of a known LB compound added as occasion demand by heat treatment to provide a thin film having a thickness of not more than 10,000 .ANG. and excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical properties, and the device having the thin film is useful particularly as electric and electronic devices.

This polyimide film is suitably employable as a support of a magnetic recording medium.
Abstract: A compliant sealing material with low or no gas permeability and low spring rate is made by coating a metal such as gold, on the surface of a polymer sheet. The metal acts as a complete gas barrier on an atomic level, and the polymer provides structural integrity and mounting attributes without detrimentally increasing compliance. A small number of metal atoms injected at a moderate energy into the near surface of the polymer act as link sites for joining subsequent lower energy atoms forming an impermeable layer. The total heat delivery to the polymer is minimized thereby preserving integrity and continuity. The material is particularly useful in micromechanical devices where high flexibility is needed with complete sealing.
Abstract: An embossing foil such as a hot embossing foil includes a backing foil which is a thermoplastic polyester triple-layer foil comprising a central polyester layer which has a lower melting point than the other two polyester layers on respective sides thereof, and a decorative layer on the backing foil, comprising at least one layer of lacquer and possibly an adhesive layer. Provided at the surface of the backing foil which is towards the decorative layer is a three-dimensional patterning.
