  • Patent number: 8233178
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for selecting a printer in a document reproduction environment comprising a plurality of networked printing devices. In one embodiment, a document is received which is to be printed and a set of image quality requirements specific for the document are determined based on the document's image content. A threshold quality expectation level is set for the document based on the set of image quality requirements. Device specific image quality metrics are obtained for each of the networked printing devices and then compared with the threshold quality expectation level. A printing device which best exceeds the threshold quality expectation level is selected as a result of the comparison. The document is sent to the selected networked printing device. If none of the networked printing devices is found to meet the threshold then an operator is signaled that the document cannot be printed.

  • Patent number: 8223395
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems and methods for refining text color in a digital image. A pixel of interest from a first plurality of pixels in a digital image may be selected, and the first plurality of pixels may be separated into a second plurality of pixels and a third plurality of pixels based on the color value of the pixel of interest. A refinement color value may be calculated based on the second plurality of pixels when the second plurality of pixels meets a quantity threshold. When the second plurality of pixels does not meet the quantity threshold, the refinement color value may be calculated based on the third plurality of pixels. The refinement color value may be assigned to the pixel of interest.

  • Patent number: 8223371
Abstract: In a data processing method, import request data transmitted from a client is received. By comparing the application list against information indicating license settings of the application that are stored in advance, a determination is made as to whether or not the processing specified in a workflow is executable. A temporary workflow list is created, and a determination is made as to whether or not the upper limit for the registerable workflow number and data size is exceeded. When it is determined as registerable, execution data for executing respective workflows and display data for controlling display included in the temporary workflow list are acquired from the client, and the display is controlled so as to display the executable workflow and the inexecutable workflow in a fashion such that the executable workflow and the inexecutable workflow can be identified.

  • Patent number: 8194274
Abstract: The present invention provides for automated capture of metadata associated with paper-based documents. A “reservation” for the metadata and a digital image of the paper-based document is created whenever a digital image of a paper-based document is to be associated with a computer record. The relevant metadata is automatically captured from a computer screen and is then stored in a previously created database record associated with the reservation. The metadata can also be associated with a later-captured digital image of the paper-based document by placing a label on the paper-based document. The label contains identifying information for the reservation and this information becomes embedded in the digital image of the paper-based document, which is subsequently created by scanning the paper-based document and label. The subsequently created digital image can then be related to the appropriate metadata by extracting the reservation identification information from the label embedded in the digital image.
