  • Patent number: 4330258
Abstract: This invention relates to mechanical double acting mechanism for actuating valve pins in a valve gated injection molding system. A number of valve gate units are aligned with a pneumatically driven toothed rack member. The rack member engages a hollow rotatable pinion member which is secured in each unit against transverse movement. The driven end of the valve pin is fixed in a bushing which extends through the pinion member and threadably engages it. The valve pin is actuated between the open and closed positions by longitudinally driving the rack member which rotates the pinion member and the bushing. In addition to providing a reliable and relatively inexpensive actuating mechanism, provision is made for relative axial adjustment of the valve pins prior to the commencement of operation which provides accurate valve seating without unduly high manufacturing tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4327047
Abstract: A mold for molding an information record having a relatively large diameter hole therethrough includes upper and lower mold members movable toward and away from each other. The upper mold member has a hole-forming pin extending therethrough and slidable therein. The pin has a recess in its end surface which faces the lower mold member. The recess has in a surface thereof at least one re-entrant which forms a lip. In molding a record, a plastic preform is placed between the mold members. The heated mold members are closed against the preform causing the plastic material to flow outwardly and fill the cavity between the mold members. The hole-forming pin is pushed through the plastic material with some of the plastic material filling the recess to form the hole in the record. When the mold members are separated the plastic material in the recess in the pin is retained in the recess by the lip.

  • Patent number: 4323337
Abstract: A compression belling machine for precision belling simultaneously of a plurality of plastic pipe ends. This is accomplished by selectively feeding groups of pipes, the ends of which are to be belled, first into a heating unit and then, transferring them by an endless conveyor, simultaneously into a belling station having a plurality of molds one-half of each of which molds is stationary and the other half of which may be moved apart from its mating half to permit insertion between the separated halves of a heated end of one pipe. Each of the molds is entirely separate from the other molds and each mold may be removed from the apparatus for replacement. All mold halves, however, are moved together by a common hydraulic head. Control means are provided to operate a novel sequential type feeder and so that pipes may be selectively deposited into the heater and then aligned with their ends properly inserted into the particular mold cavities.

  • Patent number: 4321027
Abstract: A granulator primarily intended for in situ use in combination with an injection molding machine such that plastic scrap such as sprues and runners generated in such formation of plastic parts may be granulated thereby. The granulator is adapted for disposition within the confines of the injection molding machine and particularly within the drop out area thereof. A pair of rails guide the granulator in such drop out area and enable it to be laterally withdrawn to one side of the molding machine for repair, parts changes, cleaning and the like. The specific construction of the granulator includes a pair of meshed paddle rolls serving as a combination metering and feed device and removal means to remove granulated material to that end of the granulator disposed proximal said one side of the machine so as to enable efficient and quiet in situ granulation of plastic scrap generated from the injection molding procedure in a manner heitherto unattainable.
