  • Patent number: 4426201
Abstract: Screw feeder and ram injector units for injection molding presses are disclosed. The feeder and injector units incorporate several novel features including power extension and retraction of the feeder unit by the drive ram of the injector unit. The screw feeder unit is supported directly on the ram unit without the necessity of separate supports on the press frame. A ram drive piston and injector plunger are laterally supported by means supporting the drive assembly on the injector assembly. Temperature control of molding compound is afforded by fluid circulation in a block carried on the inlet area of the screw feeder and a jacketed outlet nozzle on the ram injector.

  • Patent number: 4425091
Abstract: A molding machine for die casting, injection molding, and other similar processes, comprises a base shaped to support thereon a two-part die, and a ram for converging and diverging the die halves between open and closed positions. A pair of clamping frames are pivotally mounted on one end of the base, and include a closed border shaped to surround or receive therein side portions of the die halves. The clamping frames are laterally pivoted between a fanned-apart or open position wherein the die can be freely lifted off of the base, and a folded or closed position wherein the frame borders surround the die side portions and capture the same between the ends of the frames. In the closed position, retractable compression columns extend between the die and one end of the frames to positively lock the die halves in the closed position, whereby die separation forces developed during injection of the die are resisted substantially solely by the clamping frames.

  • Patent number: 4422998
Abstract: A method of controlled ejection of a molded product in relation to orientation, speed of ejection and/or sterility is disclosed. The method is not dependent on auxiliary moving parts or vulnerable pins or blades. The molded product is ejected into a substantially enclosed guide conduit where the contours of the conduit substantially are regions of the parting surface and the cavity/ies. The guide conduit may be fairly holeproof, whereby a very fast ejection may be accomplished when the molded product is transported in an air stream in a manner similar to a pneumatic dispatch, not necessarily in a downward direction. The molded product may be kept sterile while it is transported in a stream of sterile air.

  • Patent number: 4420446
Abstract: A method and apparatus (10) is disclosed which provides automatic control of the temperature of a fluid cooled plastic mold (12) during successive injections of liquid plastic into the mold. The temperature of the mold (12) is sensed by a probe (18) which provides a signal indicative of the temperature of the mold. The signal from the probe (12) is compared by the apparatus with a selected control temperature signal indicative of the proper operating temperature of the mold. When the sensed temperature is above the control temperature, a solenoid operated control valve (50) is activated so that cooling fluid, such as ordinary tap water, is passed through cooling channels (13) in the mold. Flow of cooling fluid is shut off when the sensed temperature drops below the selected operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 4419321
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming an integrated truss structure by means of a mold structure wherein the mold includes a plurality of male mold members each having a plurality of open grooves formed therein which slope away from the top surface thereof. A plurality of female mold members each have a generally circular recessed cavity with a plurality of open grooves which are orthogonally disposed with regard to one another and which slope away from the plane of the recessed cavity. The male and female members are positioned opposite one another with the grooves in the male and female members being aligned to define strut beam chambers and wherein the top of the male member is aligned with the recessed cavity of the female member to define a junction chamber. Thus, the strut beam chambers slope away from the junction chamber.

  • Patent number: 4416603
Abstract: A ceramic molding machine is used for hot molding ceramic parts under low pressures for small part production molding and includes a heated tank that is generally conical in shape and has an internal mixer that is driven from the exterior of the tank through a slip clutch arrangement to avoid overloading of the drive motor. The conical tank insures that the ceramic slurry will flow toward the bottom outlet from the tank and also permit use of small amounts of slurry for small runs of parts if the material is expensive. The mixer blade or paddle is driven from the bottom and removable from the top and thus the tank can easily be serviced. Additionally, air pressure is utilized for holding the molds in position over the feeder pipe and also for transferring the slurry to the mold in a timed sequence that can be controlled to provide the desired time for filling of the mold.
