Abstract: A fluidized bed polymerization reactor which is a generally cylindrical vessel having a longitudinal axis and a fluidization grid located in the vessel generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vessel and defining a fluidized bed region above the fluidization grid. The reactor has an inlet for continuously introducing a gaseous stream of polymerizable monomers into the vessel below the fluidization grid at a gas velocity sufficient to maintain particles in the fluidized bed region in a suspended and fluidized condition; an outlet for removing polymer product from the fluidized bed region and an outlet for continuously removing an outlet stream of gaseous unreacted polymerizable monomer from the fluidized bed region. A cooling device cools at least a part of the outlet stream to a temperature at which liquid condenses out of the outlet stream, and a separating device separates at least a part of the cooled outlet stream into condensed liquid and a cooled gaseous stream.

Abstract: A mold especially adapted for forming precast, waffle-shaped concrete panels employs a one-piece mold body of flexible plastic sheet material to which rigid side rails are secured by tongue and groove longitudinal joints. The mold may be rapidly stripped and reset due to a hinge action provided by partial sides of the flexible body to which the rigid side rails are joined. The side rails and other structural features provide a simple mold structure that may be readily and efficiently employed for on-site production of panels. The configuration of the side rails and associated joints facilitates the replacement of a wornout mold body.
Abstract: A medical implant made of polymeric material having an increased oxidation resistance is formed by a method including the steps of placing a resin powder in a sealed container. A substantial portion of the oxygen is removed from the sealed container by either a vacuum, an oxygen absorbent or by flushing with inert gas. The container is then repressurized with a gas such as nitrogen, argon, helium or neon so that long term storage may be possible. On use, the resin is transferred to a forming device which both melts and forms the resin in an oxygen reduced atmosphere to produce a polymeric raw material such as a rod or bar stock. The medical implant is then formed from this raw material annealed and sealed in an air-tight package in an oxygen reduced atmosphere. The implant is then radiation sterilized and thereafter annealed in the package for a predetermined time and temperature sufficient to form cross-links between any free radicals in neighboring polymeric chains.
Abstract: A polymer scale deposition preventive agent comprising (a) an aromatic compound having at least eight conjugated .pi. bonds and having a molecular weight of 1,000 or more, and (b) a polyalkylene oxide having a weight-average molecular weight of 2,000 or more, wherein the weight ratio of the component (a) to the component (b) is 100/500 to 100/1, can prevent surely the deposition of polymer scale even in a polymerization system containing a monomer, such as styrene, acrylic acid esters or acrylonitrile, which has a high solvency for a coating film consisting of the conventional polymer scale deposition preventive agent.
Abstract: Process for the production of a microspheroidal powder of low dispersity, according to which a hydrogel is prepared, an aqueous suspension of the ground hydrogel is subjected to atomisation in a stream of gas, gelled particles containing moisture are collected from the atomisation, the particles are brought into contact with an organic liquid in order to remove at least some of the moisture and the particles are then subjected to drying. The process applies to the production of silica powders intended to serve as support for chromium oxide catalysts which may contain titanium oxide and are suitable for the polymerisation of ethylene.
Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of polymers from reaction components, in particular of copolymers of styrene and acrylonitrile, by bulk or solution polymerization, where the reaction components are passed through the tubes of a recycle reactor, the recycle reactor has at least one tube bundle reactor with straight tubes around which a liquid heat-transfer medium flows, and each tube bundle reactor consists of at least two shell and tube heat exchangers which are connected together by at least one intermediate mixing section. Moreover the volume of the shell and tube heat exchangers is at least 50% of the total volume of the arrangement. The intermediate mixing sections consist of tubes with static mixing elements, around which tubes a heat-transfer medium flows.
Abstract: An electrode sheet product is formed using an extruder having a feed throat and a downstream section by separately mixing an active electrode material and a solid polymer electrolyte composition that contains lithium salt. The active electrode material is fed into the feed throat of the extruder, while a portion of at least one fluid component of the solid polymer electrolyte composition is introduced to the downstream section. The active electrode material and the solid polymer electrolyte composition are compounded in a downstream end of the extruder. The extruded sheets, adhered to current collectors, can be formed into battery cells.

Abstract: A process is provided for preparing a polymer from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, wherein the process provides reduced polymer scale deposition both in the liquid-phase region of the polymer vessel and on areas around the interface between the gas phase and the liquid phase, the process involving the use of a polymer vessel having a coating on at least its inner surfaces of a polymer scale preventive film prepared from a polymer scale preventive agent of a salt, either alkali metal, ammonium or both, of a sulfonation product of a condensate prepared from (A) an aromatic amine compound and (B) an aldehyde.
Abstract: A particulate dry mix foaming creamer comprises a conventional particulate creamer for coffee beverages and the like together with a foam generating component comprising gluconolactone and an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate. A dry mix instant hot cappuccino product in accordance with the invention comprises a water soluble coffee component, the foam generating component, an optional creamer component, and an optional sweetener component. Cappuccino beverages are prepared by mixing a liquid component and the dry mix composition and heating. A good quality cappuccino is produced with either dairy or non-dairy creamer. With dairy creamers, the formation of floating white aggregates on the surface of the beverage is avoided.
Abstract: A multi-section form for casting sewer inlet ports to manhole standpipes with right, left or bi-winged curb sections. The form includes multiple sections which can be arranged to segregate the form interior to cast inlets with a preferred arrangement of one or more curb extension wings. Pre-assembled rebar and manhole port assemblies mount within the arranged form sections, along with a multi-section form which defines a top cover and inlets to a center manhole port. An extension form wall at the manhole port assembly defines an overflow conduit. The casting form is supported to a low profile casting table which defines a bottom form wall and includes a hydraulic lift for tilting the table top to eject a cast part.

Abstract: A gated mold for casting concrete pipe requires no wedges or bolts for securement. A core mold may be contracted by lifting at an actuation point, and expanded by resting on a base ring. An external mold may be expanded by lifting at an actuation point, and contracted by resting on a base ring. The mold gates are opened and closed with sets of collapsing links pivotably attached to a longitudinally extending actuation column. Longitudinal motion of the actuation column forces the links to collapse or extend, thereby expanding or contracting the mold. Appropriately positioned actuation and lifting points are provided such that the mold can be lifted vertically along the longitudinal axis containing the mold center of gravity.
Abstract: The invention relates to a die set for the manufacture of specially shaped ceramic tile. A main component of the die set is a lower punch made of rigid material, on whose upper surface a profile is cut which is suitably shaped to form the front face of the ceramic tile, including the contoured side. The punch has a complete, continuous coating of synthetic resin or rubber bonded to it, with the punch's upper surface defining the form of the front face of the ceramic tile. The coating is continuous and covers the lateral portion of the profile that forms the shaped side, and continues on the upper most part with a horizontal edge which is turned externally with respect to the profile, upon the upper lateral surface of the body of the punch; furthermore a rigid body is fixed above the upper lateral surface, which acts to clamps the horizontal extension of the coating against the lateral surface.

The first and second engage slots (45A, 45B) are used in common for alignment of the first and second V-shaped grooves (43A, 43B) with a punch (7) mated to the die.
