  • Patent number: 5684097
Abstract: A process for producing polyethylene compositions in the presence of a catalytic system of ethylene polymerizing catalyst and cocatalyst in a multistage continuous reaction sequence consisting of successive liquid phase and gas phase polymerizations is disclosed. In the first step of the process, ethylene and optionally hydrogen and comonomer are polymerized in a first loop reactor in a low boiling hydrocarbon medium in the presence of ethylene polymerizing catalyst and cocatalyst. The reaction mixture is then removed and then transferred to a second loop reactor where polymerization is continued by addiing ethylene, hydrogen and optionally inert hydrocarbon, comonomers and cocatalysts. Thereafter, the reaction mixture is removed from the second loop reactor along with an essential part of the reaction medium and transferred to a gas phase reactor where polymerizing is continued in the presence of added ethylene and optionally hydrogen, comonomers and cocatalysts to form an end product.

  • Patent number: 5670189
Abstract: Methods of compression molding powdered polytetrafluoroethylene resins to produce composite articles of manufacture having at least two distinct layers of two types of PTFE resin are disclosed. A first layer of resin, preferably including a filler, is placed in a compression mold and partially compressed at a relatively low pressure. A second layer of resin, preferably virgin resin, is then added to the mold and both layers are simultaneously fully compressed. After compression, the resulting composite preform is preferably sintered and coined to create a finished PTFE material or product. In a preferred embodiment, the partial compression step is performed at pressures of less than 500 psi. It has been found that modified PTFE resins provide improved resistance to cold flow and also provide better binding between filled and unfilled (virgin) layers and thus are used in certain preferred embodiments.

  • Patent number: 5668228
Abstract: The invention relates to continuous gas fluidised bed polymerisation of olefins, especially ethylene, propylene, or mixtures of these with other alpha olefins, wherein the monomer-containing recycle gas employed to fluidise the bed is cooled to condense out at least some liquid hydrocarbon. The condensed liquid, which can be a monomer or an inert liquid, is separated from the recycle gas and is fed directly to the bed to produce cooling by latent heat of evaporation. The liquid feeding to the bed can be through gas-induced atomiser nozzles (FIG. 2), or through liquid-only nozzles. The process provides substantially improved productivity of gas fluidised bed polymerisation of olefins.

Abstract: A disposable bracket for holding and securing an object to the inside surface of a construction form for embedding the object and exposing its face surface in a settable material, such as concrete. The bracket has a plurality of perimeter members that corresponds to the outer edge configuration of the object. The perimeter members include an inwardly extending flange which supports the perimeter edge of the object. The bracket perimeter can be closed or open and can have cross reinforcing members, if desired. The cross-section of the perimeter members making up the bracket can include a curved convex outer surface extending upwardly and outwardly from the flange to a flat surface perpendicular to the flange. The perimeter member forms one half of a grout line mold formed in between adjacent objects embedded in the finished wall. The interior of the perimeter member can be hollow to allow flexure between the outer flat surface and the inner flange supporting the object.
