  • Patent number: 7613437
Abstract: If a sub broadcast is unavailable so a reception means receives the main broadcast instead of the sub broadcast, reception of the sub broadcast is booked. When the sub broadcast is booked and the sub broadcast becomes available, the reception means automatically receives the sub broadcast booked instead of the main broadcast. Accordingly, reception of the sub broadcast can start automatically when the sub broadcast starts, without inputting instructions to select the sub broadcast repeatedly, whereby operation performed by a user can be simplified.

The system is comprised of a quadrature (90°) hybrid power combiner (218) having a first and a second input port (260, 264), an isolated port (266), and an output port (262). The system is also comprised of a first and second RF power amplifier circuit (212, 214). The RF power amplifier circuits are respectively coupled to the first and second input ports. The RF power amplifier circuits have an output impedance that is selectively variable between a first state and a second state. The quadrature hybrid power combiner communicates RF energy from the first and second input ports to the output port when each RF power amplifier circuit is in its first state. The quadrature hybrid power combiner communicates RF energy from the output port to the isolated port when each RF amplifier circuit is in its second state.

  • Patent number: 7327990
Abstract: In a reception diversity system, a wireless apparatus includes an RF unit, analog signal processing unit, digital signal processing unit, and a control unit which controls the RF unit. The control unit operates only a predetermined system of systems while stopping the remaining systems for at least each intermittent operation period in intermittent reception operation of the RF unit, and stops all the systems in an intermittent stop period in the intermittent reception operation. The digital signal processing unit sets, in the RF unit, an initial reception gain estimated from an arbitrary past reception gain used in a past intermittent operation period as a first reception gain in a new system which is operated in accordance with arrival of a next intermittent operation period, thereby performing switching control of a plurality of systems which respectively demodulate received radio waves, and obtaining desired reception data. A control method for a reception diversity system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7155188
Abstract: Dispersing directions of oscillation frequency variable ranges of all voltage controlled oscillators provided in an integrated circuit are uniformed, and not only a range covering a frequency regardless of whether a dispersion occurs or not, but also a range covering the frequency only in a case where the dispersion occurs is used as the frequency variable range of the voltage controlled oscillator, and the frequency variable ranges of the voltage controlled oscillators are set so as to be successive with respect to each other, so that a small number of voltage controlled oscillators can cover a wide frequency variable range. Thus, the integrated circuit having voltage controlled oscillators therein is miniaturized.

  • Patent number: 7155241
Abstract: A paging transceiver and method for selectively paging provides a page to a paging transceiver but does not automatically provide an associated message. The paging transceiver receives the page and alerts the user that a message is waiting and preferably provides a short description of the message. The user can then download or otherwise act on the message at a time and at a place convenient to the user. The user can therefore place the paging transceiver in a location where it can easily receive and reply to the message. The paging system conserves air time and the paging transceiver conserves memory by not automatically receiving the associated messages. The user can determine the time at which the paging transceiver receives transmissions, such as during off-peak hours. The messages stored by the systems and delivered to the paging transceiver may be of different types, such as voice, text, audio, or even video.

  • Patent number: 7130595
Abstract: A method for reducing frequency glitches in a digital transceiver due to power amplifier input impedance variations. According to the method, the power amplifier is switched on after the end of a prior packet reception period and before a new packet transmission begins. Instead of ramping the power amplifier gain, the method ramps the modulation signals. As a consequence, any VCO frequency transients that may result from turning on the power amplifier have an opportunity to decay before the new packet transmission is initiated. This technique effectively isolates the transmitter power amplifier from the frequency synthesizer VCO to facilitate fast switching transceiver operation.
