  • Patent number: 9764819
Abstract: A span-loaded, highly flexible flying wing, having horizontal control surfaces mounted aft of the wing on extended beams to form local pitch-control devices. Each of five spanwise wing segments of the wing has one or more motors and photovoltaic arrays, and produces its own lift independent of the other wing segments, to minimize inter-segment loads. Wing dihedral is controlled by separately controlling the local pitch-control devices consisting of a control surface on a boom, such that inboard and outboard wing segment pitch changes relative to each other, and thus relative inboard and outboard lift is varied.

  • Patent number: 9745074
Abstract: An aircraft propeller drive system has a gear to be driven by an engine and having a first plurality of teeth. A torsion bar has a first end driven by the gear and a second end rotatable relative to the first end about a torsion axis by a torsion angle. An output shaft is driven by the second end and is adapted for connection to a propeller. A clutch has a driven member rotationally fixed to the output shaft and a driving member having a second plurality of teeth. The first and second pluralities of teeth engage each other when a variation in the torsion angle from a mean torsion angle is greater than a predetermined angle. Torque is transferred between the gear and the output shaft via the clutch when the first and second pluralities of teeth engage each other.

  • Patent number: 9739567
Abstract: A rocket launch system includes a tubular rocket launcher carriage with electromotive cableway traction drives conveyed beneath a two axis pivot anchored to the earth, elevated into a co-axial transfer tube leading to three primary tether cables whose weight is offset by balloons. The carriage is conveyed to a docking station supported into the stratosphere by a pair of secondary cables suspended under an attachment frame for tensioning balloons. The carriage is engaged by a carriage end gripper guided by two sets of secondary cables and two sets of tertiary cables and lifted by a lower hoist guided by the secondary cables to a lift ring assembly. This lower hoist is supported by an upper hoist suspended from the tensioning balloons attachment frame. The carriage, which engages a lift ring guided by two secondary cables, is elevated further, rotated in azimuth and elevation, and rocket ejection occurs from a launch tube during freefall of the carriage, with engine ignition occurring at a safe distance.

  • Patent number: 9731827
Abstract: A aircraft storage bin latch system that includes a paddle button assembly having a button that is movable between home and actuation positions, a latch assembly that includes a striker assembly with a striker and a hook assembly, and a cable that extends between the paddle button assembly and the latch assembly. The hook assembly includes a hook, a pivotal trigger arm, and an indicator that is movable between first and second positions when the trigger arm is moved from an engaged position to a disengaged position. Movement of the button from the home position to the actuation position pushes or pulls the cable, thereby pivoting the trigger arm from the engaged position to the disengaged position and disengaging the hook from the striker. Pivotal movement of the trigger arm from the engaged position to the disengaged position results in linear movement of the indicator from the first position to the second position.
