The polymer dispersed liquid crystal applied to the display screen is operable to switch between a transparent state and a translucent and/or opaque state. In the translucent and/or opaque state the liquid crystal prevents incident solar radiation from heating up the internal components of the device.

The embodiments use combinations of switchable polarization grating (SPG) and LC cells and combinations of polymer polarization grating (PPG) and LC cells to achieve 1×N WSS systems. An embodiment optical switch includes a liquid crystal cell and a polymer polarization grating (PPG) cell adjacent to the liquid crystal cell. The PPG includes a glass substrate, a photo-alignment layer overlying the glass substrate and comprising photosensitive polymer that has been physically altered by exposure using two interfering light beams with opposite handedness of circular polarization, and a polymerized liquid crystal layer overlying the photo-alignment layer on an opposite side of the glass substrate, the polymerized liquid crystal layer has been physically altered by illumination using a uniform light beam.

The pixel unit of the present invention comprises a first pixel unit and a second pixel unit arranged adjacent to each other and have a shape of a parallelogram. A long edge direction of the first pixel unit is consistent with a short edge direction of the second pixel unit, or a short edge direction of the first pixel unit is consistent with a long edge direction of the second pixel unit. The first pixel unit and the second pixel unit are driven by different thin film transistors, so that electrode domain inclination directions of the pixel units in adjacent rows are alternate to avoid the occurrence of horizontal stripes when the pseudo dual-domain display is performed.

    Abstract: An LCD panel and method for forming the same are proposed. In the LCD panel, the TFT includes a source and a drain formed by a transparent conducting layer, and a gate formed by a metal layer. The source is electrically connected with a data line through a via hole over the data line. The source connects to the drain via an active layer. Whatever the number of data lines are, each pixel corresponds to an associated via hole, so the number of via holes does not increase, and not reduce the aperture ratio. Therefore, the present invention is proper to a design using more data lines and working in a high frequency. Moreover, the matrix circuitry of LCD is well applied in a display which not only increases a density of data lines to raise the frame rate, but also maintains the aperture ratio and brightness.
