  • Patent number: 5704203
Abstract: A pot-spinning machine is equipped with a rewinding tube mounted on each yarn guide and with a central, common shogging drive of the yarn guides at one side of the machine. After a yarn break or similar interruption in spinning, in order to be able to initiate the rewinding operation immediately at the affected spinning station while simultaneously continuing the spinning process unchanged at the neighboring spinning stations, the shogging motion of the yarn guide is separated from the motion of the rewinding tube supported on the yarn guide, so that the rewinding tube is then moved only at the forward indexing speed of the yarn guide which is relatively slow compared with the shogging speed and which does not affect the rewinding of yarn onto the rewinding tube.

  • Patent number: 5699658
Abstract: A pot spinning machine holds a yarn rewinding tube in ready position during the spinning operation for immediate movement to an operative rewinding position in the event of a yarn break so that the broken end of yarn is not lost by winding onto the yarn cake already formed in the spinning pot and the yarn cake may then be properly rewound. The yarn break is detected with the aid of a yarn sensor which then emits a signal for immediately moving the rewinding tube into the rewinding position and clamping the yarn end. The rewinding operation can begin, even in the absence of a loose end of the yarn, if the yarn has assumed the form of a chord-like yarn segment extending substantially in the circumferential direction against the inner face of the yarn cake deposited onto the inside wall of the pot, which can be grasped and utilized to initiate the rewinding operation.

  • Patent number: 5673548
Abstract: A sliver feeding device for an open-end spinning frame, comprising a sliver draw-in roller and a sliver feed trough pivotable about a supporting shaft for movement toward and away from the draw-in roller. The draw-in roller has an annular sliver conveying collar which defines a sliver nip between the collar and the feed trough, and the feed trough has opposed laterally spaced bars for receiving the collar therebetween to guide the sliver at the nip. The draw-in roller is rotatably supported so as to permit a predetermined amount of axial movement of the collar between the guide bars of the feed trough. Similarly, a predetermined amount of axial movement of the feed trough is permitted on the supporting shaft. The collar has axial end faces each comprising a respective cleaning device. The guide bars of the feed trough have inwardly facing bevels which, in connection with the axial play of the feed trough on the supporting shaft, assure automatic pivoting of the feed trough into its operating position.

  • Patent number: 5657622
Abstract: A yarn twister mechanically twists a filamentary yarn prior to take-up so as to improve filament-to-filament cohesion. The yarn twister most preferably includes an annular housing defining an annular race in which a follower element is orbitally movable. Pressurized fluid (e.g., air) is introduced substantially tangentially into the race so as to propel the follower in an orbital path along the race. The follower includes a yarn guide element which radially extends through an annular slot in the housing into the housing's cylindrical interior region. The pressurized fluid is discharged through the slot into the cylindrical interior region of the housing so as to provide a fluid bearing for the follower. In use, the traveling yarn will thereby be guided through the yarn guide so that orbital movement of the follower will responsively impart a desirable twist to the yarn so as to increase the filament-to-filament cohesion of the yarn.

  • Patent number: 5649414
Abstract: A utility loop includes a loop of fiber which forms the loop core. The loop of fiber is made from a thread wrapped into a plurality of loops. The two loose ends of the thread can then optionally be tied together to form the loop of fiber. The outer loop cover of the utility loop is a tube of braided material, which surrounds loop of fiber. The tube of braided material has a tube axis running along a length of the tube of braided material. The tube of braided material includes a relatively small number of relatively large-diameter monofilament fibers, which are braided together in a tubular form. All of the relatively large-diameter mono-filament fibers are oriented to form acute angles with the tube axis. The two loose ends of the tube of braided material are connected together to form the utility loop. Specifically, a first opposing end of the tube of braided material is slipped over a second opposing end of the tube of braided material to thereby form an overlap.
