  • Patent number: 6003650
Abstract: A torsional vibration damper is provided with a drive-side transmission element which engages with a driven-side transmission element via a planetary gear set. The planetary gear set includes a planet wheel mounted on a planet carrier. The planet wheel engages another element of the planetary gear set such as a ring gear. The planet wheel has a toothing at its outer circumference which engages a toothing of the ring gear. The toothing of at least one of the planet wheel and the ring gear is made from a material which obviates the requirement of lubricating the toothing engagement between the planet wheel and the ring gear.

  • Patent number: 6000293
Abstract: A hydraulic transmission system includes the use of a geared cone 12 having geared rings 46-52 which mesh with respective clutches 30-36 of a drive shaft 16. The clutches 30-36 individually engage by use of hydraulic pressure directed by an input chamber 102. Engagement is accomplished when an internal parted disc 62 separates as a result of hydraulic fluid pressure and engages upon an, otherwise free-wheeling, internal surface of the clutch's external dish 60. When engagement occurs, work is transferred from the input shaft 18, through the gear cone 12, to the dish 60, through the engaged disc 62 and to the drive shaft 16.

  • Patent number: 5984070
Abstract: A device (10) is disclosed for intercepting the input of a system (23) of an internal combustion engine (12) normally provided to a solenoid valve (22) for actuating a fan clutch (20). A pressure switch (24) is provided in the pressure line between the solenoid valve (22) and the fan clutch (20). The input is received by terminals (27, 28) and is passed on to a transistor (53) which turns on and allows current flow to the solenoid valve (22) during a first period of time. If a second transistor (48) turns on because the pressure switch (24) remains open as a set point is not sensed in the pressure line and does not discharge a time delay circuit formed by a combination of a resistor (44) and a capacitor (46), then the voltage of the gate of the first transistor (53) is pulled down to turn the transistor (53) off and interrupt the current flow to the solenoid valve (22).

  • Patent number: 5954177
Abstract: An oil seal member is compressed between a connecting pipe for supplying oil to an oil chamber of a hydraulic servo and the cylinder drum of the hydraulic servo. The cylinder drum has an interior oil chamber and turns through a predetermined angle upon operation of a frictional engagement element by the hydraulic servo. The end of the seal member pressed against the cylindrical drum surrounds an oil hole 73 formed in the cylindrical drum, and oil pressure is supplied to the oil chamber through an oil passage in which the seal member is mounted and through the oil hole. A recess is formed in the outer surface of the cylindrical drum around the oil hole and the end of the seal member is received in the recess. When the cylindrical member turns within the predetermined angular range, the end of the seal member is protected by the recess. As a result, the end of the seal member is not damaged and the integrity of the seal is protected.

  • Patent number: 5950785
Abstract: A hub clutch assembly mounted between an axle and a hub of a four-wheel drive vehicle and having a 2WD/4WD position indicator that is simple in structure. A slide ring is axially slidably mounted on the axle. The slide ring is biased by a spring to a position in which an external gear formed on the slide ring engages an internal gear of an outer ring to maintain 4WD position. A magnet fixed to a cover attracts the slide ring to a 2WD position and keeps it in the 2WD position. The drive mode is changed between the 2WD mode and the 4WD mode by supplying pressure fluid only for a limited time period set by timers. A pressure gauge is provided in a passage for pressure fluid to indicate whether the current drive mode is the 2WD mode or the 4WD mode.
