Each intermediate network element (104, 105) located on the data transfer path is configured to update the first data to indicate so far smallest of the hop-specific data transfer speeds when the first data passes through the intermediate network elements. After receiving the first data, the second network element transmits, to the first network element, second data indicating the smallest of the hop-specific data transfer speeds. Thus, the first network element can be made aware of capacity changes taking place on the data transfer path.
