Patent number: 7894460Abstract: A programmable logic controller (PLC) protocol converter is disclosed that allows a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to effectively communicate with a PLC device using a desired communications protocol, particularly in cases where the PLC device does not “speak” the desired communications protocol. A first thread may be configured to continually read PLC addresses, one at a time, using a communications protocol understood by the PLC device. The first thread may store the data values in the shared data array within program memory. Thus, the first thread exposes data from the PLC device, as specified in the configuration file. At the same time, a second thread may be configured to serve the data in the shared data array according to a second communications protocol, e.g., to the SCADA system.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2008Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LPInventors: Joshua Carpman, Travis R. Patent number: 7724637Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for generating a controlled spectrum of modulated energy. A single data stream is splintered into substreams. Each substream is used to modulate a portion of the modulated spectrum. Each substream is transformed into a numerical phase and amplitude representation of a portion of the spectrum to be modulated. The combined numerical representations are then converted to a time-domain representation and filtered to eliminate undesired side-lobes.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2003Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Conexant Systems, Inc.Inventor: Steven H. Patent number: 7486685Abstract: A system for carrying two channels of data over a single physical connection. In multi-node systems, data packets are divided into flits with flits from two channels being interleaved and carried by a single physical connection. Once the flits are transmitted, they are reassembled into packets in order to be carried by a processor bus. Controllers for the channel communicate to minimize “bubbles” observed during packet assembly by the processor bus. Thus, the data is transferred in two different types of resource sharing paradigms.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Inventors: Linda J. Rankin, Suresh Chittor

Patent number: 7480246Abstract: In one embodiment, data segments routed through a switch fabric are identified as being either a first or a second type. First and second counters are maintained for a destination node to characterize the transmission of data segments of the corresponding type within the switch fabric. For each first-type time period, all transmitted data segments are identified as being the first type. For each second-type time period, all transmitted data segments are identified as being the second type. The first- and second-type time periods are interleaved. The first counter is reset after termination of each first-type time period and the second counter is reset after termination of each second-type time period to correct for a possible error in characterizing the transmission of the data segments within the switch fabric during the corresponding time period.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2007Date of Patent: January 20, 2009Assignee: Agere Systems Inc.Inventors: Gaurav Agarwal, John T. Patent number: 7477629Abstract: Session signaling register message transmission methods and apparatus well suited for use in a communication system which supports mobile nodes capable of moving between domains and access nodes in a domain are described. Broadcasting of session signaling register messages is supported to reduce the number of registration messages which need to be transmitted between a mobile node and an access node. A paging and location server is used to reduce the number of session signaling register messages transmitted between domains. A visiting node registers with a paging and location server. The session signaling address of the paging and location server being used by a visiting mobile node is registered with the visiting node's home session signaling server. As the visiting node moves between access nodes in the visited domain the paging and location server it uses remains the same eliminating the need to update the home session signaling servers.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: January 13, 2009Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: George Tsirtsis, Alan O'Neill

Patent number: 7471686Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for assuring H.323 alias address portability to an H.323 user in real-time H.323 multimedia communications where the H.323 user is registered with a home gatekeeper for the home zone of the H.323 user. Alias address portability may be obtained using a central database that is known to the administrative zones and is used for alias address mapping, or alternatively, may be obtained by using a distributed database. The method may be implemented by: sending, by the H.323 user, a message with a called H.323 entity's alias address, to the home gatekeeper to originate a call to the called H.323 entity; confirming that the alias address, services, and service providers are portable; converting the alias address to a called routable alias address for the called H.323 entity and sending the alias address to the H.323 user; and placing the call to the called H.323 entity.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2007Date of Patent: December 30, 2008Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property, II, L.P.Inventor: Radhika R. Patent number: 7463638Abstract: A network route tracing system traces a path through a network and identifiesnetwork components and communications links affected by the path. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a route is traced between two hosts in a network. The network is represented as a logical tree having a plurality of nodes. Each one of the nodes corresponds to a component in the network and each non-root node has a parent node. Two nodes are identified in the logical tree. A first node corresponds to a first host and a second node corresponding to a second host. If one of the two nodes exists at a lower level of the logical tree, then a first path is traced from the first node at the lower level to the parent node at a higher level until the parent node is at a same level of the logical tree as the second node. The first path is further traced up the logical tree from the parent node and a second path is traced up the logical tree from the second node until the first path and the second path meet at a same node.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2004Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: David M. Patent number: 7457290Abstract: A method and apparatus for inter-domain routing of calls in a network, where the network represents a first wide area network. A routing node of the network advertises its access to a range of addresses in a second wide area network and a cost for access to the range of addresses to all adjacent nodes in the network. Each of the adjacent nodes inserts an entry in its own routing table associating access to the range of addresses in the second wide area network with the network address of the routing node and the cost for access. Each adjacent node then modifies the cost for access by adding its own cost and advertises its access to the range of addresses in the second wide area network and the modified cost for access to all of its adjacent nodes.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2003Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Hussein Farouk Salama, David R.
