  • Patent number: 9395456
Abstract: Disclosed herein are various embodiments of methods and systems for optimizing signals generated by microseismic sources, comprising recording microseismic data using patches of geophones, filtering the data to impart a directionality to the data, and performing a source scan to determine the times and locations of microseismic events. The subsurface is divided into a voxel grid that is further subdivided into subgrids. Using a filter designed for each patch-subgrid pair, only data arriving within a predetermined angle of incidence are input to the source scan, thus reducing noise, and enhancing the quality and accuracy of the identified microseismic events. The method is also applicable to data previously recorded with sensor grids or other arrays such as star arrays.

  • Patent number: 7120559
Abstract: A method and system are provided for performing automated management on a system. The method includes providing a fault tree representation of the system. The fault tree specifies propagations of errors generated in the system by problems to produce error reports. The method further includes receiving one or more error reports which are analyzed using the fault tree representation to determine one or more suspected problems. The suspected problems represent those problems that could have generated errors to produce the received error reports compatible with the propagations in the fault tree. The method further includes deconfiguring or reconfiguring one or more components in the system in response to the determination of the suspected problems.

  • Patent number: 7076368
Abstract: A weather prediction unit calculates a local numerical weather prediction model from GPV data and weather observation data and predicts a regional meteorological phenomenon in a fractionated region. A power demand prediction unit predicts a power demand in each region on the basis of the regional prediction result of the meteorological phenomenon. A generated heat value prediction unit predicts a generated heat value in each region on the basis of the regional prediction result of the power demand. The regional prediction result of the generated heat value is reflected on the numerical weather prediction model. Meteorological phenomena are predicted by adding the thermal energy as sensible heat from the earth's surface and taking artificial exhaust heat by electrical energy into consideration. Accordingly, weather prediction and power demand prediction are organically combined so that accurate weather prediction and power demand prediction are implemented while considering artificial heat exhaust.

  • Patent number: 7054774
Abstract: Systems and methods for midstream determination of varying available bandwidth for streaming content between two network entities are described. During content streaming, a client requests a server to surge the content transmission rate. One or more bandwidth measurements are taken during the surge to determine if the increased transmission rate can be adequately managed. If the increased transmission rate can be adequately managed, the client may request the server to transmit remaining content at a transmission rate that is not greater than the increased, or surged, transmission rate. In a multi-bitrate file scenario, the surge rate may be higher than the rate of the fastest useable stream. In such a case, the fastest useable stream is selected. If the increased transmission rate is not suitable for future transmission, then the rate may remain at the original transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 7050928
Abstract: Method and system for measuring a relative position and orientation of range cameras using a movement of an object within a scene. In general, the method and system determine the relative pose between two cameras by measuring a path the movement of the object makes within a scene and calculating transformation parameters based on these measurements. These transformation parameters are used to determine the relative position of each camera with respect to a base camera. The system and method include other novel features, such as a data synchronization feature that uses a time offset between cameras to obtain the transformation parameters, and a technique that improves the robustness and accuracy of solving for the transformation parameters, and an interpolation process that interpolates between sampled points if there is no data at a particular instant in time.

  • Patent number: 7047155
Abstract: A bus interface connects a device to a bus that connects a plurality of devices to one another. The bus interface described is distinguished in that a timer provided in the bus interface or a timer provided in the chip that contains the bus interface is used to ascertain the timing of operations taking place within the bus interface and/or on the bus. This allows data required for configuring the bus interface to be acquired more simply, more quickly, more accurately and more comprehensively than is the case up to now. In addition, the bus interface is consequently able to match itself to the given circumstances.

  • Patent number: 7043401
Abstract: A process involves collecting data relating to a particular condition and parsing the data from an original set of variables into subsets. For each subset defined, Mahalanobis distances are computed for known normal and abnormal values and the square root of these Mahalanobis distances is computed. A multiple Mahalanobis distance is calculated based upon the square root of Mahalanobis distances. Signal to noise ratios are obtained for each run of an orthogonal array in order to identify important subsets. This process has applications in identifying important variables or combinations thereof from a large number of potential contributors to a condition. The multidimensional system is robust and performs predictive data analysis well even when there are incidences of multi-collinearity and variables with zero standard deviations in reference group or unit space.

  • Patent number: 7043376
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring vibration in a article having a rotating member. A motion sensitive transducer produces a time domain analog signal in response to the vibration. An analog-to-digital data acquisition member samples the transducer signal and produces a time domain digital signal therefrom. A timing sensor is adapted to detect an instantaneous speed of the rotating member and preferably triggers the data acquisition member to begin sampling when the rotating member is rotating. A processor processes the time domain digital signal preferably by translation to a frequency domain digital signal and determination of the magnitude and phase of the frequency domain digital signal at a frequency associated with the instantaneous speed of the rotating member.

  • Patent number: 7031879
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for analyzing a computing system. The method comprises the step of determining a dependency between a first and second system resource performance characteristic in a computing system. The step of determining the dependency includes the steps of providing data values for the first performance characteristic and the second performance characteristic of the computing system, and applying a mathematical algorithm to derive a correlation value between the first and second characteristics. The correlation value provides an indication of the relative association between the second characteristic and the first characteristic.

  • Patent number: 7031873
Abstract: The present invention is in a “virtual RPM sensor” which is preferably implemented by means of a software process. The software determines the RPM of a rotating machine using an adaptive signal processing algorithm. Preferably, the input to the software system of the present invention is digitized waveform data from either a vibration transducer on a rotating machine or vibration data stored in a database or file. The present invention permits the determination of the RPM of a rotating machine without the requirement of additional hardware so that readings may be obtained inexpensively, accurately and without interrupting machine operation.

  • Patent number: 7027933
Abstract: A method that analyzes mass spectra using a digital computer is disclosed. The method includes entering into a digital computer a data set obtained from mass spectra from a plurality of samples. Each sample is, or is to be assigned to a class within a class set having two or more classes and each class is characterized by a different biological status. A classification model is then formed.
