Abstract: An oil containing a spice extract which has antioxidant activity is prepared by mixing a spice extract contained in a polar solvent with an oil, evaporating the polar solvent from the mixture, adding a non-polar solvent to the mixture, to dilute the mixture and to precipitate constituents of the mixture, and stirring to obtain a homogenized non-polar solvent/extract/oil mixture, separating precipitate from that mixture and then evaporating the non-polar solvent phase to obtain an oil containing spice extract. The oil containing the spice extract may be mixed with further polar solvent containing the spice extract, after which the process is repeated to enrich the final oil product with spice extract.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and compositions useful for inhibiting corrosion of a corrodible metal resulting from contact of water and air with the metal. In this method, a stannous salt and a hydrocarbyl substituted succinimide of a polyethylene polyamine are added to the water in minor amounts and cooperatively reduce corrosion of the metal to a substantially zero rate. While the amount of each agent for an effective inhibition is minor, say in the range of from about 0.1 to 100 ppm, a relatively concentrated solution is required for addition to the water. Suitable solvent media include the lower alkanols and mixture thereof with or without added water. Isopropanol is preferred. The solvent component of the compositions also varies depending upon the particular imide and/or salt component employed and the concentration desired.
Abstract: A halogen scavenger contains as an effective ingredient an aromatic compound which has a resonance-effect-relying electron donating group as a substituent. The aromatic compound is constituted, for example, by an aromatic ring such as a substituted or unsubstituted benzene, naphthalene, anthracene and pyridine ring, and at least one group (a resonance-effect-relying electron donating group) which contains a lone-pair-containing hetero atom, such as an oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atom, adjacent to the aromatic ring.
Abstract: An asphaltene removal composition comprising an alkyleneamine-fatty acid condensation reaction product and one or more polar aprotic high dielectric constant solvents is useful for removing and inhibiting asphaltene deposits from wells, pipelines and associated equipment.
Abstract: The invention provides a method of preventing the corrosion of yellow metal surfaces in contact with water. The method comprising the step of adding to the water an environmentally safe mixed tolyltriazole composition including at least 65% of the 5-methylbenzotriazole isomer by weight.

Abstract: Multiply, preferably doubly or triply, fluorinated nitrobenzenes are prepared in an advantageous way from the corresponding chloronitrobenzenes and an alkali metal fluoride in a chlorine-fluorine exchange reaction by catalyzing the reaction with a quaternary ammonium compound comprising at least one alkoxypolyoxyalkyl radical.
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a microbicidal agent containing polymeric quaternary ammonium borate, obtained by simultaneous reaction of amines of the formula I or II ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.7 and A are as defined in the description, with 1 to 20 mol of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide and 0.6 to 1.5 mol of boric acid, boric acid esters or salts of boric acid, in each case per mole of nitrogen equivalent, as a preservative and/or disinfectant for industrial products and industrial plants.

Abstract: Aromatic nitration reactions and, more specifically, a process for nitrating benzene to produce dinitrobenzene or mononitrobenzene in the absence of sulfuric acid and in the absence of any dipolar aprotic solvent.
Abstract: The use of substituted phthalocyanines for the generation of singlet oxygen in which at least one of the peripheral carbon atoms in the 1-16 positions of the phthalocyanine nucleus (M.sub.k Pc) of Formula (1): ##STR1## wherein: M is selected from H, metal, halometal, oxymetal and hydroxymetal; andk is the inverse of 1/2 of the valency of M; is linked via an oxygen atom to an aromatic radical and the remaining peripheral carbon atoms are unsubstituted or substituted by any combination of atoms or groups and sulphonated derivatives thereof provided that the phthalocyanine absorbs electromagnetic radiation at a wavelength from 650 nm to 800 nm.
Abstract: A composition for inhibiting corrosion. The composition contains a mixture of a dessicant and a vapor-corrosion inhibitor. The mixture of dessicant and inhibitor is synergistic: the service life of the corrosion inhibitor is signficiantly longer when so used than when used alone or in in the presence of but not physically mixed with the dessicant.
Abstract: Fluoronitrobenzenes are prepared in an advantageous way from the corresponding chloronitrobenzenes and an alkali metal fluoride by means of a chlorine-fluorine exchange reaction with replacement of a chlorine atom by a fluorine atom, by catalyzing the reaction with a quaternaryammonium compound which comprises at least one alkoxypolyoxyalkyl radical.
Abstract: A corrosion inhibitor is disclosed which is produced by reacting an aqueous alkanolamine solution with an acid gas to form an amide and an alkanolamine salt, mixing aqueous alkanolamine with said amide and said alkanolamine salt in the absence of added inorganic base, and reacting the mixture at elevated temperature.
Abstract: A rust, corrosion, and scale removing composition is provided. It comprises an additive concentrate and water. The additive concentrate preferably consists of, on a parts by weight basis, 1.5 to 5 parts glycolic acid, 0.2 to 1 parts tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, 2 to 6 parts citric acid, and 1 to 3 parts trisodium citrate dihydrate.
Abstract: A bleaching composition for cellulosic materials such as paper pulp, cotton and cotton blends. The chemical system of the present invention includes a mixture of sodium hydroxide, optical brighteners and an enhanced hydrogen peroxide including a silicate-free stabilizer. In the preferred embodiment, the silicate-free stabilizer includes; magnesium acetate; phosphonic acid derivative or substituted phosphonic acids; dipicolinic acid; and the balance water. The resulting textile goods are soft, absorbent, silicate-free with a Hunter Scale whiteness of greater than about 85. Because a silicate-free stabilizer is used, low levels of extractable solids are obtained.
