  • Patent number: 8578948
Abstract: A cosmetic brush includes bristles made from shape memory polymer (SMP) filaments or fibers. The shape memory polymer filaments are selected to exhibit a first shape during assembly of the brush, and a second shape after exposure to an external stimulus in the form of heat or other energy. The SMP filaments are initially assembled to the base of the brush. The first shape can be straight to facilitate assembly of the fibers to the base. The second shape, after assembly and after being subjected to the external stimulus, can be any bristle shape suitable for enhancing the function of the brush, e.g., kinked, wavy or coiled. The brush may be comprised solely of SMP filaments, or may be a blend of SMP filaments and any other suitable filament (e.g., nylon, natural plant or animal fibers, etc.).

  • Patent number: 8534300
Abstract: A dental hygiene threading tool used to insert floss between teeth of a user who has permanent oral implants. Traditional flossing for individuals with oral implants and the methods of flossing between implants and the gum line presently available are time consuming and difficult, due to the lack of the space between the two structures. The disclosed device comprises a hollow tube used to guide a floss threading line or pull through guide into these tight spaces. The tube is then removed once the threading line has been inserted. A user feeds a strand of dental floss through the threading line loop and pulls the threading line with the dental floss through the space. Once the dental floss has been fed through the teeth, the flossing procedure may commence. The device dramatically reduces time and effort required to thread floss between teeth and oral implants.

  • Patent number: 8499771
Abstract: The fingernail polish protector includes an adjustable ring portion along with a ventilated protective shield which snaps into the adjustable ring portion. The adjustable ring portion is designed to fit over the distal end of the finger of a wearer whose fingernail has been recently polished such that the ventilated protective portion overlies the fingernail thereby protecting the polish from being damaged while it dries and cures. Ventilation openings allow airflow and can be formed to be both functional and decorative. A positive stop prevents the ventilated protective shield from tilting downward onto a wet nail, while downward curved sides of the shield limit side-to-side movement which also helps prevent damaging newly polished fingernails. A plastic injection molding process allows the two interlocking portions to be formed in various sizes and colors.
