  • Patent number: 7298423
Abstract: A time-based, digital FM demodulator circuit receives a stream of digital samples corresponding to an analog FM waveform. The samples are provided to a zero crossing detector, which allows a counter to determine a number of clock cycles between zero crossings. The resolution of this coarse period determination is further refined by an intercept calculation, which further localizes the zero crossing of the FM waveform based on interpolation between samples on either side of the zero crossing. Accuracy of the period determination may be further enhanced by use of a sinusoidal correction filter, which minimizes error caused by the linear interpolation performed on the sinusoidal waveform. Although the FM demodulator circuit is particularly suitable for demodulation of the chroma component of a SECAM video signal, it may advantageously be applied in a wide variety of FM demodulation applications.

  • Patent number: 7298418
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the invention disclose a method and system for processing in a non-line locked system. The phase relationship between the sub-carrier signal on consecutive video lines in a video comb filter is determined by synchronizing the two video lines. The synchronization is achieved by aligning the color bursts signals in each of the two video lines. The phase error between the two video lines is determined through the use of a correlation operation. The phase error between consecutive video lines is used to automatically adjust the delay lines used by the video comb filter. The line delay adjustment is provided by changing the values of a variable integer delay and a fractional integer delay. Line delay adjustments reduce the artifacts that occur in the separation of luma and chroma components of a composite video signal.

  • Patent number: 7289164
Abstract: The system and software of the present invention presents a process for translating a source palette containing TV unsafe colors into a resultant modified palette containing only TV safe colors, while preserving the color trends in the source palette. The software will first analyze a source color palette to determine the TV unsafe colors contained therein. For each TV unsafe color in the source color palette, the software determines the closest TV safe color by selecting a TV safe color that is the shortest Euclidean distance from the TV unsafe color. The TV unsafe colors are substituted with the calculated TV safe colors and stored in the resultant palette. The software will divide the color space of the source palette into discrete regions, e.g., by Hue (H), by selecting reference colors as the boundaries of the regions. The initially TV safe color will then be modified in a manner similar to the modifications made on nearby reference colors that were required to make them TV safe.

  • Patent number: 7286187
Abstract: There is disclosed an adaptive de-interlacing method and apparatus based on a phase corrected field of an input interlaced picture signal, and a recording medium storing computer programs for executing the method. The method includes: generating a phase corrected kth field by compensating a phase of the kth field of the input interlaced picture signal by 1 line frequency; calculating a first motion vector between the phase corrected kth field and the (k?1)th field of the interlaced picture signal; calculating a second motion vector between the (k?1)th field and the (k+1)th field of the interlaced picture signal; and determining whether there is motion of the input picture based on the first and second motion vector values, and generating a kth progressive frame based on the result and the kth field. Thus, a serration phenomenon is minimized after de-interlacing by more exactly detecting the motion information of a corresponding inserted field.

  • Patent number: 7283176
Abstract: Methods and systems for determining fields in a video signal are disclosed. Historic field ID values for a received video signal may be stored and subsequently utilized by a summer and/or a correlator in order to estimate a field ID value for a current field. The summer may sum all historic field ID values and, if the sum is within a determined range, for example, the field ID value for a current field may be estimated based on the sum of the historic field ID values. If the sum is not within the determined range, for example, the historic field ID values may be correlated with an expected field ID value or with an inverted expected field ID value. The correlation may then be utilized to estimate the field ID value for the current field.

  • Patent number: 7274402
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for motion-vector-aided interpolation of a pixel in an intermediate image lying temporally or spatially between first and second images, motion vectors are assigned to the pixel to be interpolated, one pixel in each image being assigned to each vector. Video information values (e.g., luminance or chrominance values) are determined based on the video information values of pixels assigned to the motion vectors. A further video information value is generated by mixing certain of the video information values, and other video information values form a value interval, the mathematical position of the further video information value being determined relative to the interval boundaries. The video information value to be interpolated is determined depending on the position of the further video information value relative to the interval boundaries.

  • Patent number: 7274405
Abstract: Synchronous signal overlapping and outputting means and sound signal transmitting means of a signal transmitter transmit any color signal which synchronous signals overlapped and the other color signals, and a sound signal on which polarity information of the synchronous signals was added through four signal lines to a signal receiver, respectively. Synchronous signal recovering and outputting means of the signal receiver recovers the synchronous signals on the basis of the synchronous signals separated from the color signal with the polarity information and outputs the signals to an image output unit. Then, it is possible to output sounds together with images inputted from the image inputting source from the image outputting unit with only four signal lines.

  • Patent number: 7271842
Abstract: A double-rate signal achieved by subjecting a video signal to double-rate conversion is supplied to a scan line number converter. In the converter, the portion of the effective scan lines of the double-rate signal is written into a frame memory on the basis of a signal achieved by multiplying horizontal and vertical synchronous signals based on the double-rate signal. In the effective scan line section of HDTV signal, the video signal written in the frame memory is read out on the basis of horizontal and vertical reference signals based on the HDTV signal. Out of the effective scan line section of the HDTV signal, a pedestal level signal written in a memory is read out on the basis of the horizontal and vertical reference signals based on the HDTV signal, thereby achieving HDTV signal whose vertical scan line number is equal to 1125 lines. Accordingly, the HDTV signal suffers no degradation because the video signal in the section of 960 effective scan lines of the double-rate signal is not interpolated.
