Abstract: Any of the AV devices or the users of a network system to which the present invention is applied can input detailed information on a recording reservation and provide the remaining AV devices and the users with the detailed information on the recording reservations that the AV device or the user has and it is possible to realize a means to be used by any of the AV devices or the users to provide the remaining AV devices and the users with the detailed information on the recording reservations that the AV device or the user has. Such a system can effectively avoid occurrence of so-called double booking and is easy to use for the users. In a specific processing operation, raw_text_information_block containing a raw text showing details of a reservation and character_code_information_block and language_code_information_block showing the coding of the raw text are described in a Resource Schedule Entry of an RSB.

Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording a multi-channel data stream on a recording medium in such a manner that substreams of digital channels constituting the multi-channel data stream can be distinguished each other in reproduction. The present recording method separates a multi-channel stream composed of substreams belonging to a plurality of channels into individual substreams, records the individual substreams separately by channel in plural stream objects allocated in a recording medium, creates a piece of search information every a substream contained in the recorded multi-channel stream, and records the created plural pieces of search information on the recording medium. The present method makes it possible to selectively search and reproduce each substream among a multi-channel stream recorded on a recording medium, thereby improving use convenience of a recording machine such as a digital video recorder.

Abstract: A method and system to protect users against potentially fraudulent activities associated with spoof web sites are described. According to one aspect of the present invention, the URL of a document downloaded via a web browser client is compared to the URLs in a list of URLs for known spoof sites. If the URL for the downloaded document is found in the list of URLs for known spoof sites, a security indicator is displayed to the user to indicate to the user that the downloaded document is associated with a known spoof site. According to another aspect of the invention, a security server maintains a master black list and periodically communicates updates of the master black list to the local list of a client security application.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for retrieving web documents. Briefly described, in architecture, one embodiment of the system, among others, includes a web retrieval tool interface configured to display a context menu from any web page that is being viewed. The context menu displays at least one option for retrieving a document at a predetermined network address. The system further includes logic configured to retrieve the document corresponding to a selected option in the context menu. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Abstract: A digital video recorder (DVR) is user-configurable to start recording before a scheduled start of a program. The DVR displays an electronic program guide having a graphical indicator that the DVR is configured to start recording a program early. When a user commands the DVR to play back the recorded program, the DVR begins playing the program at the position corresponding to the scheduled start time, as opposed to the actual recording start time. If desired, the user can “rewind” the program and view the portions of the program recorded prior to the scheduled start time. The DVR can display a counter counting the time base for the recorded program. The counter displays time elapsed since the scheduled start time and counts portions of the program recorded before the scheduled start time as negative time.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and article of manufacture is provided for processing a previously encoded MPEG video high-resolution (HR) file and corresponding proxy file, for frame accurate timecode repair and synchronization of individual video frames of the HR and proxy files. Each video frame header of the HR and proxy files is modified by a compressed timecode packet having an identifying signature, an absolute timecode of the frame, and a relative timecode of the frame. The timecodes have the SMPTE timecode format HH:MM:SS:FF. The method automatically verifies the timecodes in the HR and proxy files timecode packets. If a repair of the HR file anomalous absolute timecodes is needed, the method automatically corrects the anomalous absolute timecodes in the HR file. If the proxy file starting video frame is offset from the HR file starting video frame, the method automatically synchronizes the proxy and the HR files absolute and relative timecodes.

Abstract: A system and method for distributing of various media content is described. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a device is coupled to a remote server through a network. The device includes a storage memory that includes markup language content, wherein the remote server can update the markup language content through the network. Additionally, the device also includes a DVD drive having a DVD. Further, the DVD includes video content. The device also includes an overlay unit coupled to the storage memory and the DVD drive. The overlay unit overlays the markup language content over the video content to form combined content in a single window. Moreover, the device includes a video display to display the combined content in the single window.

Abstract: Improved methods and arrangements are provided for use in selecting candidate television and multimedia programs for recording, recording the candidate programs, viewing the recorded programs, and archiving the recorded programs. At the center of this capability is a time-dependent content buffering arrangement that allows candidate programs to be selected by an intelligent content agent, with the assistance of a bubbling agent, an electronic program guide, a select library listing, and/or a personal profile associated with a particular user. The buffering arrangement selectively records candidate programs in a non-circular manner. Candidate programs may be dropped during recording based on certain information associated with the program. For example, examination of closed captioning information may reveal that the candidate program does not match the initial criteria for making it a candidate program.

Other text data is recorded together with language code. Since the primary text data used to select video data is expressed in alphanumeric characters, a program or cell to be reproduced can be selected, regardless of language, and the text information in the same language as that of the apparatus can be searched for.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for switching between browser and video modes in a standalone VCD-ROM system including a VCD player and a VCD-ROM disk. A browser program is first executed in the VCD-ROM system. The browser program allows a user to navigate through the content of the VCD-ROM disk by selecting hypertext links. The hypertext links are selected by clicking on clickable text, buttons, and graphics. The system also allows the user to play a video by selecting an associated hypertext link. When the video is selected, the method of the present invention saves the return address and the address of the video. The video is then played on the video system. When the video is finished playing, the method of the present invention reloads the return address into the system. This returns the system to the original browser mode of the browser.
