  • Patent number: 7835742
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for arranging handover in a wireless telecommunications system. Connection settings are stored in a terminal, wherein at least one network identifier is associated with alternative connection settings, the network identifier identifying a target network reachable by a connection from the terminal. The network identifier associated with the currently applied connection settings is compared with the network identifiers associated with the other available connection settings. The connection settings associated with the same network identifier as the one associated with the currently applied connection settings are then selected. The handover may then be carried out by using the selected connection settings.

  • Patent number: 7831245
Abstract: Wireless user equipment in possession of a user can be identified (e.g., by its telephone number) based upon observations or knowledge of another such user. Information associated with one of a first user and second user, such as a telephone number, can then be provided to the other. For example, a first user who observes a second user may wish to know the number of the second user's mobile phone without asking the second user for his or her number. The second user's number can be determined by estimating the location of the second user based upon the first user's location and the first user's observations about the second user, and identifying any user equipment at the estimated location.

  • Patent number: 7831208
Abstract: A wireless mobile phone is provided with one or more buttons and complementary logic to facilitate entry of encoded representations of a variable length encoding scheme of alphanumeric data. As a result, a user may use the provided facilities to engage in non-verbal communication for sensitive subject matters in the middle of a call. In one embodiment, the encoded representations are Morse codes. In another embodiment, the encoded representations are custom designed. In one embodiment, the complementary logic further facilitates echoing on a display, alphanumeric data corresponding to any entered encoded representations. Additionally, each of the code entry buttons includes one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs), and the LEDs are lit to visually echo the encoded representations of the variable length encoding scheme of letters, numbers or punctuations entered through a standard input keypad.

  • Patent number: 7831236
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in securely provisioning a mobile communication device in a wireless local area network (WLAN) having a plurality of wireless access points (APs) are described. In one illustrative method, a provisioning procedure is performed between the mobile communication device and the WLAN via the provisioning wireless AP while the mobile communication device is positioned within a provisioning radio frequency (RF) coverage region of the provisioning wireless AP. However, the provisioning RF coverage region is otherwise confined so that a plurality of other mobile communication devices of the WLAN are restricted from access therefrom during the provisioning procedure. The provisioning RF coverage region may be confined by providing the provisioning wireless AP within a secured room, by providing an electromagnetic shield around the provisioning wireless AP, or both, as examples.

  • Patent number: 7831256
Abstract: A mobile communication system includes a mobile station (5) connected to a core network (1) through a communication line intervened by a base station (3a), and a radio control station (2) configured for controlling the setting of a radio link for the mobile station (5) in the base station (3a). The base station (3a) monitors the congested state of the communication line, generates a state indicator indicating the congested state/non-congested state of the communication line, based on the results of monitoring, and transmits the state indicator generated to the radio control station (2). The radio control station (2) recognizes the current state of the communication line based on the state indicator received from the base station (3a).

  • Patent number: 7826832
Abstract: Systems and methods for transferring or conferencing a call between user-accessible communication endpoints are provided. In particular, information related to a call in progress or a connection in progress is stored in removable memory associated with a first user-accessible communication endpoint. The user then removes the removable memory from the first user-accessible communication endpoint, and places it in a second user-accessible communication endpoint. The second user-accessible communication endpoint then calls a network authority, and provides the call information stored on the removable memory to the network authority. In response to receiving the call information, the network authority forks the call to the second user-accessible communication endpoint. The first user-accessible communication endpoint can then be disconnected.

  • Patent number: 7826859
Abstract: In a wireless mobile communications system, a method for processing paging information allows the operations of a mobile terminal to be simplified and permits efficient use of resources for the mobile terminal. The network instructs in advance, the transmission of control information, such as a particular paging message, a notification message, system information and the like, via a single indicator channel. The mobile terminal receives this single indicator channel and uses the indicator information that was transmitted via the indicator channel in order to receive the control information.

  • Patent number: 7822415
Abstract: Military systems in particular face two specific problems: field casualties typically increase as unit visibility decreases and it is often difficult for ground stations and/or headquarters to maintain control and visibility of geographically dispersed assets. The system provides satellite communications such as two-way messaging, Voice over Packet, and global positioning information and reporting for fixed and rotary wing aircrafts where traditional methods of communications are not otherwise practical. The system provides communications between remote users and other remote users as well as between remote users and control stations. In some embodiments there is an in-flight transceiver system that includes an antenna, an aviation box, and a switch. The aviation box conforms to a one-half, ½ short Air Transport Rack (ATR) form factor and includes a transceiver, an interface card, and a global positioning system (GPS) unit.

  • Patent number: 7822437
Abstract: A system and method for providing an user the ability to roam onto a peer Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) Network. An iGW supports the passing of Dispatch registration information back to the users home network. The iGW will also support and assist in setting up Dispatch Calls between the two iDEN Networks, and vice versa. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention also support roaming from another technology that supports Dispatch Services, where if a iDEN subscriber with a dual mode phone (i.e., iDEN & GSM), was to roam onto another carrier with a different technology but with Dispatch capabilities, the iDEN subscriber is able to register on the roaming carrier's network. The iGW is capable of receiving the registration update from the roaming network and updating the iDEN Network with the location of the iDEN Subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7822186
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for managing the scheduling of calls and automating the process of making and delivering such calls. Any endpoint (e.g., telephony-enabled) device can be used with a PSTN, cellular, and VoIP network. Different types of devices and interfaces may be used for provisioning users, conferring calling events, scheduling events, and/or delivering calls. Among other things, this increases user mobility. Also, automated retrying and rescheduling of calls, which may use updated data, reduces the likelihood of missed calls.

  • Patent number: 7813732
Abstract: A base station in a wireless communications network counts mobile stations receiving broadcast content via multi-user channel. The base station broadcasts a repeating message identifying at least one broadcast content stream and, for each stream, a REGISTER (R) or DO NOT REGISTER (DNR) indicator. Mobile stations periodically re-examine contents of this message. When the indicator is R for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations whose users have elected to receive it send the base station a registration message for that stream. When the number of registered mobile stations reaches a prescribed number, the base station changes the indicator to DNR. When the indicator is DNR for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations refrain from sending any registration message for that broadcast content stream. The base station may institute a recount by resetting the indicator to R.

  • Patent number: 7809362
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus for providing an arbitrary sound chosen by a called subscriber instead of ringback tone to a calling subscriber. In this present invention, if a call is received, a terminating exchanger requests a trunk connection to a sound db server based on the first information on whether or not to replace a ringback tone and the second information on a route to the sound db server that are received from a home location register (HLR), and provides a called subscriber identification for the sound server. Then, the sound db server searches its db for a sound specified by the called, and provides the found sound for the caller instead of a conventional ringback tone via the terminating exchanger connected through a trunk. Through this sequential procedure of network elements, a caller can hear a sound specified by a called instead of a dry ringback tone.
