  • Patent number: 9714710
Abstract: An energy saving seal seals between a bore and a shaft for separating an oil side from an air side of the seal. The seal includes an annular mounting portion having a bellows portion extending axially and radially inward from the mounting portion. An axial leg extends axially from the bellows portion toward the air side. A lay down sealing lip extends radially inward and axially toward the oil side from an end of the axial leg. The sealing lip includes a bead on an outer surface. A dust lip extends from the end of the axial leg in a direction opposite the lay down sealing lip. When the oil side is under a negative pressure, the axial leg flexes inward in response to the negative pressure and engages the bead to provide a self-contact feature that holds the lay down sealing lip in engagement with the shaft.

  • Patent number: 9695937
Abstract: A seal includes an annular mounting portion having a bellows portion extending axially and radially inward from the mounting portion. An axial leg extends axially from the bellows portion. A lay down sealing lip extends radially inward and axially from an end of the axial leg. A dust lip extends from the end of the axial leg in a direction opposite the lay down sealing lip. When the oil side is under negative pressure and when the lay down sealing lip begins to lift radially off the shaft there is a counterbalance force applied to the axial leg through the bellows geometry which maintains the lay down sealing lip in contact with the shaft. In addition, the seal is designed to be flexible enough that the oil side vacuum “rocks” the seal bringing the dust lip into contact with the shaft and blocking airflow.

  • Patent number: 9649126
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ultrasonic surgical instrument includes providing an ultrasonic waveguide comprising a blade implement at a distal end thereof, providing an ultrasonic transducer assembly, and providing a hollow sheath sized to receive the ultrasonic blade. The method further includes identifying a motionless node on the ultrasonic waveguide when the ultrasonic transducer assembly is driven at maximum current at a resonant frequency of the ultrasonic transducer assembly, and installing a seal on the waveguide at the motionless node, wherein the seal has an annular groove therein. Installing the seal comprises positioning a first annular seal portion at the motionless node on the waveguide such that a first axial seal portion and a second axial seal portion extend axially in opposite axial directions beyond the first annular seal portion. When compressed, the seal maintains a contact with the waveguide that is less than a contact with the hollow sheath.

  • Patent number: 9618116
Abstract: A piston assembly for a nailer is provided, and includes a piston body with an upper surface, a lower surface and a peripheral edge. A peripheral gland is located between the upper and lower surfaces, the gland having an inner closed end and defining an annular space. An annular piston seal is disposed in the gland, and a plurality of spaced air ports are disposed adjacent the peripheral edge, the ports each being in fluid communication with the gland. The gland and the seal are dimensioned so that during a power cycle of the nailer, pressurized air generated during a fastener driving stroke enters the ports and radially expands the seal for enhancing friction between the seal and a surrounding cylinder. During a return stroke, the seal is radially retracted within the gland to reduce friction between the seal and the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 9598125
Abstract: A seal structure is provided to block a clearance between a rotational casing and a fixed housing for driving a crawler of a crawler vehicle. A seal ring is held in a first annular holding groove provided in the fixed housing together with a first O-ring that biases the seal ring toward the outside of the first holding groove. A second holding groove having an opening facing the first holding groove is provided in the rotational casing to hold a slide ring having a higher rigidity than that of the seal ring together with a second O-ring that biases the slide ring toward the seal ring. A foreign object such as mud is thereby prevented from invading a gear chamber without increasing a frictional loss.
