  • Patent number: 6588467
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement at the discharge end of a debarking machine (12) for the preliminary debarking of logs (2) prior to a separately performed final barking and for the expulsion of at least some of the removed barks from a wood flow passing through the debarking machine. The debarking machine (1) has its discharge side provided with an extension (5), continuing from the lower section level of the support surface of the debarking machine used for bearing the logs (2), and guiding the logs (2) discharging out of the debarking machine (1). The extension may include a variable speed conveyor (7), varying the speed of which influences the admission rate of logs into the debarking machine and the dwell time of logs therein.

  • Patent number: 6585018
Abstract: First and second guide plates are engaged for linear sliding between them by a channel and rib engagement system. A grooving tool is carried by the plate associated with the rib, and the rib is in axial alignment with the tool head, such that the tool head can lead the rib. When a groove is being cut into a workpiece, the rib can follow the tool head into the cut groove to extend the range of the guide. Ribs of different size can be selected to coordinate with the tool and groove width. Filler strips similarly coordinate the channel width. An alternate or supplemental guide system joins the first plate to a series of accordion style hinged and foldable plates. These plates guide the first plate in linear movement as they fold or unfold.

  • Patent number: 6578610
Abstract: A clamp control system for a feller/buncher has three buttons for automating the operation of the harvesting and accumulating clamps. A CLOSE button, when momentarily actuated for the first tree of a bundle, closes the harvesting clamp and the accumulating clamp and then re-opens the harvesting clamp. When actuated again momentarily for the second and subsequent trees, the harvesting clamp closes, the accumulating clamp opens and re-closes and the harvesting clamp re-opens. Actuation of an OPEN button opens both clamps and resets the system to be ready for the first tree of the next bundle. Actuation of a STOP/CANCEL button freezes both clamps in their current positions.

  • Patent number: 6578780
Abstract: There is a method for the mechanical disintegration of biogenic sewage sludge, for which the sewage sludge, in an initial state, has microorganisms in the form of cells and a solid, which is formed essentially from aggregates of cells and suspended materials, and for which a disintegration process (3, 4) causes a destruction of aggregates and a destruction of cells. It is desirable to improve the disintegration. This is achieved in that, in a first disintegration step 3, primary destruction of aggregates and, in a subsequent, separate second disintegration step 4, primary destruction of cells is caused. Due to the use of two separate disintegration processes, an appreciable improvement in the disintegration is achieved, since fewer aggregates and more cells are supplied to the second disintegration process. The increased destruction of cells brings about the improvement in the disintegration.

  • Patent number: 6578609
Abstract: An apparatus for debarking logs comprising a drum rotatable about an axis and having an inner surface and outer surface with at least one movable debarking surface adjacent the inner surface of the drum to debark logs that come into contact with the movable debarking surface at a first rate. There is at least one fixed debarking surface at the inner surface of the drum to debark logs that come into contact with the fixed debarking surface at a second rate. The movable debarking surface is movable with respect to the inner surface of the drum between an operating position to allow contact between the movable debarking surface and the logs and a retracted position to minimize contact between the movable debarking surface and the logs.

  • Patent number: 6578783
Abstract: A method for providing an alternative periodic cover material for landfills by separating materials in a salvage operation. A non-sorted material stream including metallic and non-metallic components, which preferably includes automobile scrap, is fed to a shredder. After shredding, the non-sorted material stream is separated. The non-sorted material stream is first separated into two streams, namely, a heavy material stream and a light material stream. The heavy material stream is conveyed to a magnetic separator where ferrous metals are separated from non-ferrous materials. The light material stream is passed under a cross belt magnetic separator where the light ferrous metals are separated. The remaining light material stream is conveyed to a rotary trommel which separates the light material stream into two fractions based on size, with the fine material becoming relatively inert through processing and being used as a cover material for landfills.

  • Patent number: 6578781
Abstract: There is a method for which a sewage sludge is permitted to flow from a first connecting region 21 to a treatment device, which works with rotation and stresses the sewage sludge with severing parts, and from the treatment device to a second connecting region 1. It is desirable to improve the continuity to the operation and to attain a decisive increase in the disintegration. This is achieved by using a rapidly rotating pipe-head formation, which has a head 6 with radial openings 10 and radial wings 4, for the mechanical disintegration of biogenic sewage sludge. The edges of the openings exert a shear effect, while the wings exert an impact effect and the combination of these two actions, in conjunction with the rapid rotation, brings about the improvement in the disintegration.

  • Patent number: 6571696
Abstract: The invention concerns a compactor for empty containers consisting of a fixed frame (1) and a mobile element (2) integral with the frame but capable of sliding inside or outside the fixed frame, and of receiving the container (12) between an upper part of the fixed element (7) forming an anvil and a part of the mobile element forming a compressing member. The mobile element can be subjected to a vertical downward force. Said force is applied on the lower part of mobile element (9) by the user's foot. Said lower part forming a pedal is located underneath the fixed frame top part to cause the mobile element (2) to slide and compress the container between the opposite surfaces of said upper parts.

  • Patent number: 6568441
Abstract: A pair of holding arms which can be installed quickly and used to press a workpiece in a safe manner against a guide fence, regardless of the cuts made upon it, when the workpiece is moved past a shaper having cutter blades rotatably mounted on a stationary shaft. Each holding arm includes a rubber-faced roller, an elongated, solid rod of angular transverse cross-section, and a track-mounted post for supporting the rod in a horizontal position. Contact between the workpiece and the holding arm is made through the roller which is vertically mounted on one end of the rod. The post includes a clutch plate for locking the horizontal extension of the rod. Each roller can be quickly moved forward into contact with the workpiece without releasing the clutch plate. To move the roller backward—away from the workpiece, the user releases the clutch plate with one hand and pulls backward on the rod with the other.
