  • Patent number: 6550706
Abstract: A pepper grinder has a grinding assembly including an inner grinding member and an outer grinding member turnable relative to each other to grind pepper in between. The outer grinding member is secured in a lower housing member by means of a lower securing ring connected to the outer grinding member; the securing ring has saw teeth projecting from an upper edge, and is pressed into the lower housing for the pointed ends of the saw teeth to be inserted into the inner side of the lower housing such that the outer grinding member can't turn relative to the lower housing. The inner grinding member is also secured to an upper housing by a securing ring of the kind. Thus, the inner grinding member can turn relative to the outer one when the upper housing is turned relative to the lower housing.

  • Patent number: 6546980
Abstract: A method for fabricating bamboo blind slats is disclosed. The steps include splitting a selected bamboo stem into several bamboo strips, removing the skins and joints from the bamboo strips before being disinfected and dried and then trimming them to fine bamboo strips. Further at least two bamboo strips are indented to joint with the corresponding ends, and then is trimmed to a fine jointed bamboo strip. A bamboo plate is obtained by joining fine jointed bamboo strips and/or the fine bamboo strips together in conjunction with a pneumatic press, and then is trimmed and polished. After slicing the bamboo plate into several bamboo slats, the bamboo slats need to be polished before covering a base coating, polished again before covering a face coating. Finally the bamboo slats are punched with two cord holes to be used for making a Venetian blind.

  • Patent number: 6546979
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method controlling a drum debarker by way of using the drum weighing information in the control of the drum debarking process. The method comprises the steps of determining the weight of the contents in the drum determining the filling degree of the debarking drum determining the average density of the log bunch tumbling in the debarking drum from drum weighing information and drum filling degree information, and determining a target value for the log retention time or debarking work in the debarking drum. Based on the information thus obtained, at least one following variables is controlled: the drum rotating speed, discharge rate of logs from the drum and infeed rate of logs into the drum so as to achieve the desired target value for the log retention time or debarking work in the debarking drum.

  • Patent number: 6539993
Abstract: A log handling and cutting system which cuts logs into lengths, and allows for maximum use of fiber. The system includes equipment for singulating the logs, optimally removing the bark from the logs, scanning the true log image, cutting the logs to length, and sorting the cut logs arranged in a sequence of coupled operations. The logs are singulated using a dual quadrant singulation system to provide maximum singulation reliability, thereby allowing a single operator to attend to this process. Once singulated, the logs are fed automatically into a debarker where the diameter and volume are scanned and debarker-operating parameters are set for optimum bark removal. The log is then scanned, tree length, using a unique scanning system, which determines the true image of the log. This enables the determination by computer of the optimum bucking solution of the log as well as a proper sorting of the optimum random lengths.

  • Patent number: 6533004
Abstract: A wood-splitting impact tool with an enhanced wood-splitting function by virtue of its improved penetration and its reduced recoil. Improving the penetration of the wedge is achieved by fabricating the wedge of aluminum, titanium, graphite composite or alloys thereof, or any lightweight material that has rare energy transfer capability. Penetration into wood is further enhanced by using a frictionless or smooth surface coating on the penetrating surfaces of the wedge, such coating being PTFE, Teflon®, or anodized aluminum. The wedge and its cutting edge surfaces can be anodized to toughen as well as smooth all surfaces subject to deformation. The surface of the wedge is structurally decreased in recoil by interrupting the metal surface with small, periodic, directional or stepped abutments.

  • Patent number: 6526878
Abstract: A media binding device is operable to apply pressure on a plurality of media sheets, while applying heat to melt adhesive provided between the sheets of media. The media binding device may be implemented in conjunction with an image forming device, e.g., printer, facsimile machine, photocopier, etc. More specifically, the media binding device may be implemented in a position generally at an output end of the image forming device, following a collating or stacking of the printed media. The media binding device applies a predetermined amount of pressure on the plurality of media sheets. In this respect, the media binding device operates to apply a gradually increasing amount of pressure onto the media sheets until a predetermined amount of pressure is reached. The predetermined pressure is applied on the media sheets by shutting off the current flowing into a motor operating the media binding device when a predetermined current level is reached.
