  • Patent number: 4322175
Abstract: An improved joint assembly has a boot seal with a retainer ring. The retainer ring is effective to hold the seal in place on a housing having a circular side surface with any one diameter in a range of diameters. The retainer ring includes an annular base having a plurality of interspersed groups of radially inwardly extending fingers or tabs. Each group of fingers includes fingers of different lengths to cooperate with housing side surfaces having different diameters within the range of diameters. Thus, each group of fingers includes a medium length finger which cooperates with a housing side surface having a diameter that falls within a middle portion of the range of diameters. Each group of fingers also includes a relatively short finger which cooperates with a housing side surface having a diameter which is greater than the mid-range diameter.

  • Patent number: 4319389
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll comprising a stationary roll support and a roll shell rotatable about the roll support. The roll shell is guided in radial direction upon the roll support in order to perform displacement movements, typically lift movements. The controlled deflection roll is equipped with a shutoff element, a slide or a valve, which upon exceeding a given displacement magnitude of the roll shell causes outflow of pressurized fluid medium from a pressure line, and thus, prevents the development of the full pressing or contact force which otherwise could lead to destruction or damage of the roll shell. In an overflow line, branching-off of the pressure line, there can be arranged a residual pressure regulator equipped with valve means or throttle means for preventing drop of the pressure in the pressure line below a desired value.

  • Patent number: 4319390
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a roller for use in pressure treatment of webs of material, or the like. The roller includes an annular roller shell and a beam support extending through the roller shell. The pressure on the roller shell is transmitted through a supporting element to the support within the shell. The supporting element includes a sleeve that is received in a recess in the support. The sleeve is connected with a source of pressurized liquid through a conduit in the support. The sleeve opens toward the shell. A spring normally urges the sleeve toward the shell. The sleeve is closed in the space between the support and the shell except where it opens toward the shell. The inner diameter of the section of the sleeve closer to the shell is approximately the same as the outer diameter of the sleeve more remote from the shell for improving the hydrodynamic force exerted by the "plug" of pressurized liquid inside the shell.

  • Patent number: 4318630
Abstract: A locking device for coupling an externally splined power take-off shaft with an internally splined coupling hub which may be part of a universal joint shaft of an agricultural implement, including locking elements which are radially movable between an inner locking position and an outer unlocking position, the elements being engaged in the locking position with a circumferential groove in the power take-off shaft. A retaining member is axially slideable on the coupling hub to a position to engage the locking elements to hold them in their radially inward locking position. Insertion of the power take-off shaft into the coupling hub causes an actuator device which includes radially movable members extending into the bore of the coupling hub to be moved radially outwardly by engagement with the power take-off shaft thereby to engage the retainer member to urge the retainer member toward its position holding the locking elements in the radially inward locking position.

  • Patent number: 4318629
Abstract: An apparatus for coupling tubular frame members is disclosed. A coupling block has a plurality of couplings extended therefrom. Each coupling has a guide recess, a clamp mounted for sliding movement within each guide recess, a bolt having a first end connected with the clamp and a second end screwed into the coupling. The clamp is provided with a hole which receives the first end of the bolt. A bearing within the hole supports the bolt at the first end for free turning movement. The bolt has a circular groove adjacent the first end, and a pin is mounted to the clamp and extended through said circular groove. The clamp is operable to slide responsive to the rotation of the bolt within the guide recess to press the tubular frame member surrounding said clamp and the coupling defining the respective guide recess thereby solidly holding said coupling and tubular frame member to each other.

  • Patent number: 4309018
Abstract: A clamp-down device whereby an inaccessible portion, such as the rear end of an equipment rack, for example, may be secured to a base or anchor member from the front end of the rack which is readily accessible. The clamping arrangement includes a clamping bar having a wedge-shaped end which fits into a complementarily wedge-shaped slot in a pin secured to the base and extending through the rear end of the equipment rack. A jack-screw is operatively connected between the equipment rack and the clamping bar adjacent the front or accessible end of the rack, so that by turning the jack-screw, the wedge-shaped end of the clamping bar is forced tightly into the wedge-shaped slot in the pin to thereby draw the rear portion of the rack tightly against the base.
