  • Patent number: 4244233
Abstract: A reciprocating indexing mechanism for linear and rotary outputs which has an output member which inherently reaches a zero velocity at each end of a stroke independent of the input velocity and which utilizes an angular input mechanism, commercially available, which has a rotative movement greater than 180.degree. but less than 360.degree.. The resulting mechanism has versatile kinematic characteristics during the stroke with a smaller acceleration discontinuity at the ends of the stroke than comparable harmonic mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4242078
Abstract: An automatic ignition control system for controlling the pilot burners and main burners of fuel burning appliances so that these burners are ignited only upon demand is disclosed. The system consists of a main control unit which may be interconnected with conventional main and pilot burners or which may be connected with a new and novel burner specifically designed for the purpose. The main control unit is actuated by suitable thermostats or switches when burner operation is required and operates to open the pilot valve and activate a pilot igniter control circuit. The igniter control circuit may take several forms, depending upon the type of igniter used with the burner, and sensing means are provided to deactivate this igniter control circuit when a pilot flame is detected. If the pilot fails to ignite after a predetermined period of time, the main control deactivates the pilot solenoid and sounds an alarm.

  • Patent number: 4241620
Abstract: The invention relates to a balance wheel for rotating machines, especially combustion engines, including, for example, outboard motors. Hitherto, such balance wheels or flywheels have been manufactured from different non-ferrous metals as zinc or aluminum alloys, and in one embodiment they have the shape of an inverted pot having low side walls. On the inner side of the walls balance wheel magnets, that is, permanent magnets for the ignition or generator system of the motor, are attached, and the other elements of the ignition or generator systems are disposed outwardly around the output shaft of the engine and inside the "pot". However, for obtaining a suitable magnetic field, the permanent magnets are not attached directly to the balance wheel of a non-magnetic material--zinc or aluminum--but on a ring of magnetic material, for instance steel, which in its turn is attached to the balance wheel. As known, the object of a balance wheel is to act as an accumulator of mechanical energy.

  • Patent number: 4240306
Abstract: A rack and pinion assembly includes a rack bar having a longitudinal axis along which it is displaceable in a rack bar housing. A pinion is rotatably mounted in the housing and has teeth which engage with helically formed teeth in a rack of the bar so that upon rotation of the pinion, the rack bar is displaced longitudinally relative to the housing. A control mechanism communicates between the rack bar and the housing and rotates the bar about its longitudinal axis and relative to the housing in response to the longitudinal displacement of the bar by the pinion.

  • Patent number: 4236498
Abstract: The specification discloses a prefabricated factory built fireplace for on site installation with a dual opening hearth. The fireplace has a firebox disposed over the hearth which is formed of two upstanding sidewalls with front and rear panels disposed therebetween. Each panel defines a relatively large rectangular opening for providing front and rear access to the hearth. A hood, disposed above the hearth and connected to the firebox, defines a flue in the top portion thereof for venting combustion products of the firebox into the chimney. The sidewalls of the firebox and the hood are formed of a triple insulated wall structure containing an outer, intermediate and inner casing. The outer casing is separated from the intermediate casing by insulation material and the intermediate casing is separated from the inner casing by an air passageway which communicates between the inside of the firebox and the flue.

  • Patent number: 4233955
Abstract: A fireplace and room heater that makes use of both natural air convection and forced air principles to efficiently heat an adjacent room. The fireplace and heater is freestanding and includes a firebox that is enclosed on three sides by a shell. The shell forms an air space between its walls and the firebox that is used for passage of air. A bulkhead separates the space into two distinct plenum chambers, an upper chamber and a lower chamber. A blower is provided at the rear of the unit. An intake of the blower opens into the lower plenum chamber. A discharge of the blower opens into the upper plenum chamber. Air is drawn through the lower plenum chamber by the blower and is forced outwardly through the upper plenum chamber through the blower discharge. The blower is controlled by a rheostat and thermostat to facilitate selective adjustment of air flow through the unit.

  • Patent number: 4230090
Abstract: A heating stove has a fire box composed of first and second pluralities of parallel aligned connected vertically oriented curved open-ended conduits lower extremities of the conduits of said first and second pluralities being aligned for contacting a common planar surface to support the stove, with the fire box further being formed by generally planar front and back plates, of substantially the same size and shape, with the front plate having an inlet port therethrough and the back plate having an exhaust port therein. The conduit central portions are largely within the stove fire box. A baffle within the fire box promotes three-pass flow of hot air across the conduit surfaces within the fire box. The first and second pluralities of curved conduits are opposed and in interdigitated engagement. Curved strips separate the curved conduits and thus facilitate stove construction with the conduits in interdigitated engagement.
