  • Patent number: 6115904
Abstract: An apparatus and method for severing and removing wires surrounding a bale of pulp are disclosed, as well as a unique severing and coiling head. A bale of pulp is loaded onto a turn conveyor and the turn conveyor transports the bale from where it was loaded to the operating position, where a containment disk is lowered onto the top of the bale to restrain the wires wrapped around the bale during severing. A control arm moves a severing head until the head is in contact with the lateral surface of the bale, and keeps it there during the severing and removal process. The turn conveyor rotates the bale through 360 degrees about its vertical axis, thus drawing the severing head across each of the four lateral faces of the bale. The severing blade's teeth engage the wires, pull them free from the bale, and coil them around a spool that is coaxial with the severing blade and attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 6112389
Abstract: In order to facilitate production of cans (3,103,103'), in particular of aerosol cans, magnetic conveyors (6,8) and magnetizable pallets (7,107,107') are provided, instead of chain conveyors including mandrels, in plants for producing containers. The cans (3,103,103') are fixed to the magnetizable pallets (7,107,107') and are passed to or through processing stations, for example, by magnetic belt conveyors (6,8). The pallets (7,107,107') are connected to a connecting portion (132) projecting from the can bottom (130) which may be inserted into a connection opening (117) of the pallet (7,107,107') by a riveting operation. By appropriately arranging the conveying surface (8) of the magnetic conveyor (6,8), the cans (3,103,103') may be oriented at will on the pallets (7,107,107') which are magnetically supported. The can opening is always freely accessible during conveying.

  • Patent number: 6108881
Abstract: An SMD-C type terminal automatically pressing machine comprising a support frame, a wire reel rack, a wire clipping mold, an embossing mold, a shearing mold, a material feeding device, a first wire shifting clamp, a second wire shifting clamp and a rectifying mold. The wire clipping mold, embossing mold and shearing mold sequentially process a wire track pulled out from the wire reel mounted on the wire reel rack and performing the pin insertion operation. Thereafter, the first wire shifting clamp first completes the wire shifting operation with respect to the lower half portion of the inserted terminal. Then the material feeding device sends the terminal, in which the lower half portion has been completely shifted, to the second working area. Then the second wire shifting clamp performs the wire shifting operation with respect to the upper half portion of the terminal.

  • Patent number: 6105227
Abstract: The invention provides a machine and methods for automated manufacture of tapered adjustable ducts, and particularly tapered adjustable take offs. A tube of material is cut into gores of predetermined configuration, coupling beads are formed in the gores and the gores are adjustably interconnected to one another to form the finished take off duct in an automated fashion. The apparatus for forming an adjustable duct member may include a housing including at least one work station formed therein. A die associated with the work station is selectively positioned at a predetermined location relative to a work piece positioned in association with the work station. A cutting and forming assembly associated with the work station cooperates with the die to selectively cut the work piece to form first and second members and to form a coupling bead in the first and second members which cooperate to reconnect the first and second members together at a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 6106446
Abstract: The invention is a system for use in a single-anvil hydraulic press or compression system for automatically selecting and changing both the upper and lower tooling. The system is installed between the upper and lower compression anvils of a hydraulic press. The upper portion includes a set of holders for upper tools and adjacent orientation structures or jaws. The upper tool holders and jaws are mounted on a horizontal member that may be moved such that one of the upper tools is "selected" by being placed immediately below the upper anvil of the press. As part of this selection process, the anvil removes the tool from the selected holder, and holds it using pneumatic suction. Then the horizontal member shifts over so that the upper anvil is situated directly above the adjacent orientation structure for that tool. To switch to a different upper tool, the horizontal member again moves the (empty) holder below the upper anvil, whereupon the pneumatic suction is removed causing the tool to drop into the holder.
