The available station information indicates an available base station with which the mobile station can communicate. The mobile station is instructed to change a receive channel to a down-link channel of the service-providing station when the mobile station can communicate with the second base station.

    Abstract: A system (100) that is capable of transmitting a displayable message to a short message entity (102, 104 or 105) in more than one data package over a conveying network. The system (100) uses a capacity determiner (206) to determine a capacity of the conveying network for transmitting data. Based on this capacity of the conveying network, a fragmenter (204) divides the displayable message into fragments at an application protocol layer. The size of a fragment does not exceed the capacity of the conveying network. Finally, a packager (208) packages the fragments into data packages. The data packages are operable to be separately transmitted by a short message service over the conveying network. The data packages may include a reference parameter corresponding to the position of the fragment in the displayable message. Further, a reference parameter may indicate the total size of the displayable message being fragmented and packaged.

This passing of network device operations is accomplished by converting a first form of information to a second form in the source network device. Subsequently, the source and the target network device are notified that operations associated with the mobile communication unit will be passed at a particular time. At that particular time the information converting is bypassed such that the first form of information is provided to the target network device. In addition, the target network device begins to monitor incoming information for the first form of incoming information. In response to a presence of the first form of incoming information at the target network device, the first form of information is converted into the second form in the target network device.

    Abstract: An adapter and signal transmission cables for hands-free telephone system including a mobile telephone, car audio equipment such as a cassette recorder and a mobile telephone adapter. The mobile telephone adapter includes an adapter body, which can be pushed inside the cassette recorder; a hands-free microphone; a first signal transmission cable for connecting the adapter body and the mobile telephone; and a second signal transmission cable for connecting the hands-free microphone and the mobile telephone. The adapter body has a housing that resembles a cassette tape externally and a magnetic recording head installed inside. One end of the first and second signal transmission cables are joined together and connected to a plug, and the plug is capable of plugging into the voice input/output socket of the mobile telephone. When the mobile telephone picks up incoming voice signals, the signals will be transmitted via the adapter to the cassette recorder, which is then broadcast out through its loudspeakers.

    Abstract: A method for operating a wireless telecommunications system whereby communication channels are efficiently allocated to cells of the system is provided. In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present method, call demand information is obtained for each cell in the wireless system and converted to a channel demand. Once the channel demand for each cell is known, a tentative channel allocation is performed. Call demand information can be obtained as frequently as desired to update channel allocation throughout the wireless system. In some embodiments, the method for channel allocation described herein can be used alone to allocate channels. In other embodiments, the present method for channel allocation can be used on an hourly, daily, or other temporal basis, as appropriate, to provide a channel allocation which is then updated on a substantially continuous basis by any conventional dynamic channel allocation scheme.

The fraud protection mediation module operates in any one of the following situations: (1) a registration notice (REGNOT) is received by the HLR from a mobile switching center (MSC) currently serving a subscriber in a roaming area; (2) a qualification request (QUALREQ) is received by the HLR from a serving MSC for obtaining a subscriber's profile; and (3) the HLR sends a qualification directive to a serving MSC, with the updated or modified profile of the subscriber. By using the improved HLR of the present invention, a carrier may have the HLR bypass the fraud protection processing in areas that support authentication processing to provide convenience to the subscribers so that they do not have to enter their PINs to use their cellular phones.

In one embodiment the user interface includes a keypad of the telephone, in another embodiment the user interface includes a speech recognition function, in a further embodiment the user interface includes a speech synthesis function, and in one further embodiment the user interface includes a data port for connecting the WLL subscriber unit to an external data processor.

The station may be a fixed or roaming device. The central host sends the command a network switch, such as an SS7 SSP, wherein the command comprises a mobile identification number (MIN) and an electronic serial number (ESN). The network switch queries an associated HLR database to locate the remote station, the query specifying the MIN and the ESN. If the HLR does not recognize the MIN/ESN combination, it so informs the network switch, as well as the VLR associated with the MSC serving a remote station identified by the ESN. In response to the notification from the HLR, the VLR removes any entry in its database relating to the ESN and updates its database with the new MIN/ESN combination transmitted by the HLR to the VLR.

    Abstract: A mobile telephone, or personal communication services subscriber who wishes directory assistance services is connected in the conventional manner to an operator who identifies a destination telephone number desired by the subscriber. In a preferred embodiment, the operator locates a desired destination telephone number in a computer database, and can select automatic dialing of the located number. Further, rather than dropping all further involvement with the call, the preferred embodiment of the present invention continually monitors the connection thereby established for a predetermined DTMF signal issued by the customer, such as that obtained by pressing the "*" button. If such a signal is detected, the customer is transferred to a directory assistance operator, who can then provide whatever further assistance is needed (e.g., providing further directory assistance).

Prescribed tuning operation is performed by shifting the prescribed frequency 360.degree. by means of the phase shifting circuits 10C and 30C and setting the open loop gain of a feedback loop at less than 1 when the output of the voltage dividing circuit 160 is feedback. The resistance ratio between the feedback resistor 70 and the input resistor 74 of each section 2, 3 is adjusted so that the maximum damping of each section 2, 3 may become smaller and the tuning bandwidth of each section 2, 3 becomes wider.
